 The G90 or G95 is the successor to the two-year-old G80 or G85 and sports a 20 megapixel sensor with built-in stabilization, a fully articulated touch screen and unlimited 4K movie recording. It costs $1,199 US dollars or £1,079 British pounds for the kit with the Lumix G 12-60mm lens that you can see here and this pitches it directly against Sony's A6400 and Fujifilm's X-T30. Panasonic described it to me as a new sensor with the photo quality expected to equal the Lumix G9 that gives it a boost over the 16 megapixel G80 G85

 Some examples of that in video: Doesn’t shoot full hd 24fps, doesn’t shoot full hd at high bitrates (24 mbps is outdated in 2022), Crops in 4K even more than the micro 4/3 crop (it means that it has to shoot very, very wide, to look a little bit wide), does not record 10 bit in full hd or 4K to an external device, the focus peaking for manual focus lies a little bit (does not works perfectly), little noisy in the shadows (but this is common even for far more expensive cameras). For photography in my opinion it’s a fine camera, I only felt it lacks HDR pictures, and as I said in video, the response is a little noisy in the shadows. So if you are searching for a great camera for video in a similar price range, go with the GH4 or GH5 (used), X-S10 Fuji (body only), Sony A7s2 (used, body only). But there are good points on this camera, that makes me believe it’s surely costs what it costs: Beautiful 8 bit colors, no limit of recording time, stabilized sensor, great photos files (comparable with much more expensive full frames)

Great price, but not a  great camera in general (although it’s a very good camera).

 Turn her on, bring out the screen, and there you have a nice 3-inch touchscreen. Now, what's also great with this camera, when you've got it up to your eye, and you've got it in single-point autofocus, so if we look at this, you can assign these function buttons. Well, it's got four function buttons within this one dial, and you can pre-assign those to whatever you like. I've got this one set up to me focus area, so you can set it up to face detect, eye detect, custom, multi, and then you've got one area and pinpoint

 Awesome, I love that, and it has got also five axis image stabilization, and I've taken photographs right down to, if you look here, let me get this running, I've taken photographs, here we go, one eighth of a second, so I've taken photographs right down to one eighth of a second, and absolutely lovely and sharp, so I'll come, actually, I will show you a few images in a moment of, you know, what I've taken with this camera when we went out and about, just taking a few snaps really in the town, so yeah, great that you can adjust the focus point while you've got it up to your eye, it's got face detect, eye detect, all that sort of malarkey that you expect on all modern mirrorless cameras, and it's got focus points right across the whole, pretty much the whole screen, you look at, you know, where you can focus, it's pretty much across the whole screen, or you can just set it to face and eye detect, and that works, you know, equally as well, you know, very, very truffed with, in fact, the face detect is awesome, the face hasn't got to be big in the screen, it can be quite a distance away, and it will still pick up the face, I think that's absolutely fantastic, many function buttons on here, it's got, as all Panasonics have, the quick menu, so you can just go through, you can set this up how you like, so you can set up, I mean, I haven't changed any of these settings, you've got exposure compensation, style, photo style, a whole range of different settings, metering, etc, etc, set that up how you wish, again, on the top here, as well as the three dedicated white balance ISO and exposure compensation, it has got a record, a specific record button, that's great, particularly, again, if you're doing, you know, you're doing vlogging, it's great that the record button is on the top, now on my little Canon M62, it's on the back, and that's a pain in the butt, because you've got, you can't, you know, you've got to try and think, well, which button is it on the back here, you know, being on the top, easy to get to, awesome, and it's got another function button on the top here, inside this master control wheel, so, again, you can set that up to how you wish, and then what you do, you use the back control dial to adjust, I've got mine set up for adjusting the aspect ratio, I find that useful, because I've run this YouTube channel, I can set it to 16.9, if I know I'm going to take images that are going to go, pardon me, if I'm going to take images that are going to go on the internet, on the website, or on my YouTube channel, you know, but normally set it to 4.3, so you're getting a better resolution off the micro four third sensor, so, yeah, that's the Panasonic G90, images, very, very good, they're very similar, if not identical to the G9, probably identical to the G9, you're not going to have any complaints with the images that come out of this camera, the sensor's great, you've got a lot of dynamic range there to work with, I know with micro four thirds, maybe not quite as many stops as you would have with a full frame, but there's plenty there to be able to work with, I'm happy with that, again there, you can bring the highlights right down, although it's a murky day, there's no highlights there really to play with, but bring the shadows right up, sharpness off the sensor, although that has a lot to do with the lens as well, obviously, well, more so to do with the lens, but, you know, it's crisp, it's absolutely crisp, low light is very good, up to 800 ISO, absolutely pretty clean actually, very clean, up to 800, as you go higher than 800, I have found it can get a bit muddy and a bit noisy, but, you know, it's not an issue, even that's not an issue, because with the lights of Lightroom and Photoshop and many other Luminar, many other programs, you can get rid of the noise and you wouldn't even know, yeah, Pounce on it G90, I hope you enjoyed watching this, thanks for watching, if you do enjoy my channel, please subscribe, it really helps me grow the channel, and hit the like button, if you like this particular video, so thanks very much, and stay tuned for more videos relating to video and photography, cheers, bye for now.

You can set it to only use a small part of the screen, so you can see there the focus point is, you know, moving around according to where you put it, because it's touch screen, but when you've got it up to your eye, I've got it set to just use a small corner, a top right hand corner, and that way my nose doesn't change the focus point. Panasonic G90 Review - Is it still worth buying in 2020?

 I don't think it makes sense for me to go through all of them here. The G90 is a successor to the G80 slash 85. While it's not a major update or upgrade there are some nice improvements still like the 20 megapixel sensor, higher flash sync speed, unlimited video recording time, V-Log-L video picture profile, headphone jack for monitoring video audio and USB charging. None of those are really like major like I said but there's still really nice improvements nevertheless

 If you're looking at the Lumix camera. The battery of this camera has a SIPA rating of 290 shots which doesn't sound a lot but I never had any problems with the battery or the power running out in the middle of my shooting. However I think if you know that you have a long day ahead of you I recommend you have a spare battery with you or at least a USB power bank. This camera has USB charging and also USB power but you can't use them both at the same time

 The control layout is very similar to the G9 and by the way I have a comparison between these two cameras. There's a link up there so if you're interested please take a look at that also. Yeah so the control layout is very similar between these two cameras with one major exception. And like I said earlier this is also a pretty capable video camera this offers 4k UHD up to 30p there's no time limit in video recording there's a microphone and headphone jack and there's a v-log flat profile although it's only 8-bit it still offers a little bit more flexibility in terms of color grading compared to some other picture profiles and then there are also some customizable autofocus settings for video and those can help you customize the autofocus to work to your liking in some situations

 Yeah so the control layout is very similar between these two cameras with one major exception. And like I said earlier this is also a pretty capable video camera this offers 4k UHD up to 30p there's no time limit in video recording there's a microphone and headphone jack and there's a v-log flat profile although it's only 8-bit it still offers a little bit more flexibility in terms of color grading compared to some other picture profiles and then there are also some customizable autofocus settings for video and those can help you customize the autofocus to work to your liking in some situations. The excellent image stabilizer also helps a lot in video especially if you turn on the IS lock function or feature then it's almost impossible to introduce any kind of camera shake in the video even if you try. The IS lock doesn't work or it's not suitable for any kind of tilting or panning or moving camera but if you are filming something where you plan to keep the camera still and handheld I recommend you turn on the IS lock because it's almost like a miracle

 This camera is not mine, it's on a long-term loan from Panasonic. I got this in mid-June so I've been using this now for about three months and this review is based on what I normally shoot and that is documentaries, street, occasional portraits, travel and family photos. If you're looking for information how this camera performs in say wildlife or sports photography, I'm afraid I can't give you that information because I haven't used this camera for sports or wildlife. This is not also a full review in a sense that I'm only talking about the features that matter to me and the features that I use when I'm doing my photography and I'll put a link to the full specifications in the description so you can take a look if you are interested

Lumix G90 –Great travel Camera

Wifi was broken out of the box

 So for example, right now, I'm shooting with the face and eye tracking autofocus. And it's just picking up my face just perfectly, no worries, and tracking it throughout the frame. So I don't need to worry about making sure I'm in a certain part of the frame. It'll track me around the frame and make sure I am kept in focus which is really, really handy

 Now, I'm shooting it right now. I'm vlogging this part of the video because this is a great vlogging camera as well. It's so small and compact. It's easy to operate one-handed like I am right now

 That means you can do things like create star trails against the dark sky even with city lights in the background. But this camera is also great for shooting video and I've actually had a lot of fun shooting video with this camera. It seems to be a really nice system for doing that. It's actually got some really impressive specs built in as well

 And I noticed it while I was shooting. Now, that's partially down to the 5-axis dual IS which gives you 5 stops of stabilisation for steady video and for sharp pictures at slower shutter speeds. But I definitely noticed that while I was shooting. Now, something else that stood out as particularly impressive was the autofocus on this camera

 However, the video implementation is worse, and the G85 is noticeably sharper for video. The crop factor for the G95 is not great and it uses only a small portion of the sensor, it's more like a 1" sensor that m43. So for a budget still camera, it's not bad, but the G9 is better for stills, and the G85 is better for video. The GH5 is also better but more expensive

Professional videographer says: Decent for photos, not great for video

 I do think it's a pity that Panasonic stick ridgely with their proprietary DFD system. If they'd have applied as much research and development to phase detection as they have to DFD we'd surely have Panasonic models that match the best mirrorless focusing models from Sony or at least as good as the top models from Olympus. But they've stuck to DFD with the full frame S1 too so they'll continue to be viewed with misgivings by action photographers. Not being the best doesn't mean bad though and the G90's direct competitor the Olympus E-M5 Mark II is considerably less competent in continuous autofocus

 Image quality is identical though. We're getting to the point with digital cameras where as with mobile phones if you have a Mark V you skip Mark VI and probably Mark VII because it's not until the Mark VIII that there's anything worth the cost of upgrading. But judging isolation on its own merits the G90 is almost everything you'd hope for for a modern middle to top range Micro Four Thirds camera. Throw a few phase detection pixels into the mix and it might well be everything you'd hope for
