Pioneer pl-570 turntable, REAL WOOD VENEER, Horiatis76.com

After a day of listening, absolutely LOVE the Pioneer, even though it has a cheap Pickering DLE stylus in it. Thinking of upgrading to an Ortophone 2M Blue on the Pro-Ject and moving the Red to this, but want to sit with the setup it came with for a while so I don't spoil my ears!. Lastly, I added in a Chromecast Audio off of eBay so I could steam to the receiver. It's worked like a charm so far, just wish Google hadn't discontinued them since it made finding it a pain

Never been so excited by a cartridge pairing to my turntable.. this Nagaoka MP200 on my Pioneer PL-530x will give me so much joy it’s incredible.

This, along with the PL-570 (wooden base), is considered one the most beautiful turntables from Pioneer and other manufacturers. Kudos to your dad - this is heirloom quality stuff here.

My dad has a Pioneer PL-530 TT (unknown year, maybe early to mid 70’s, unknown sub model but looks pretty generic to that line) he bought about a decade ago. I wanted to get him a new stylus for it for his birthday coming up but I am totally unsure what he has on it already, so I am planning to get him a new cartridge. I know he has never changed the stylus on it. He only plays it a couple of times a year and keeps everything clean. I am assuming that it has the original head shell on it (because it looks like same one from stock photos of the TT) and he may have the original cartridge/stylus that came with it. I can’t know for sure since he lives a few hours away now, so that’s another reason I’m going the new cart/stylus route. I wanted know if anyone had any experience with them because I wanted to know what kinds of cartridges the head shell will take and what kind folks on here prefer with that TT. I don’t want to spend more than $150 on one. I’ve been looking into an Ortofon 2M Red and the different AT-VM95 (e &amp; ml), but those are the first ones that come to mind for me. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Cartridge for a Pioneer PL-530

Technics turntable and Dual Amplifier, both made in the late 70s, still going strong.

For 100$ I always preferred the pioneer pl-990 simply because it has a strobe light and speed adjustment from the front. Not many people seem to consider that turntable, but it is an excellent value.

So after almost a month I think this is the setup I’m going with. Is it good? Also does the turntable come with a pre amp or not this one?

Now it runs great. I think if you want to own a turntable that it helps to know more about how it works so for me this was cost effective and I have a feeling the turntables in your budget probably wouldn’t perform much better. Mine came with a decent audio technica cart/stylus but now I can use the money I saved to upgrade the cart later if I want since that probably makes the most impact on sound character/quality.

Is it worth buying one of the turntables in the ~$350 range to get started? Or is it better to save up for a while longer to get into the ~$600 range? Why? And which turntable in the range you chose would you get?
