The nice thing about active speakers is that u do not require a separate amplifier. I myself have the Mackie MR 624 and am fairly content with them.

Because you have a decent amplifier i suggest buying passive speakers, ie speakers that connects to an amplifier.

Looking for speakers for my PC in the **150-200$** range. The most important reason for buying a speaker for me are video games and movies, shows, podcasts, etc. I want a clear sound for voice, effects, etc. But even though music isn't a priority it's also important so I want something that isn't crappy for music as well. PC speakers in the 150-200$ range? (please read the description)

 Not so enthused about that as you can clearly hear a weaker side on the left speaker with that flimsy wire. They do what I want them to do, which is to play a better quality sound in the control room for monitoring video audio. They seem to be well made and have a black finish. The power button on the front and super quiet (No buzz or pops)

 Still deciding if the price is right for such small speakers, but when you consider their big brothers are usually several $100s more, this may be a good deal after all.

 These E3 speakers sound better and have adjustments for volume and base. One speaker has all the connections and the other gets its power and audio from a copper audio wire included in the box. Not so enthused about that as you can clearly hear a weaker side on the left speaker with that flimsy wire. They do what I want them to do, which is to play a better quality sound in the control room for monitoring video audio

2. Have a long enough cable between them (or has a cable that can easily be switched out to a longer one). My desk is 1.86cm wide, and I'd like a cable long enough so that there is one speaker at the end of each end

3. I'm not too particular about the sound quality. For reference, I use the Logitech speakers z150 and they sound like decent little speakers too me, but the cable between them isn't long enough

4. Small and has a good look profile. Stand alone speakers without satellite (2.0). I like the look of Audioengine a2+ and Kanto Yu2 but they are too expensive. I also don't mind Bose Companion 2 Series III, but it looks like the cable between them are too short.

Any suggestions?

Recommendations for aesthetic computer speakers that don't cost a fortune

 When I lowered the bass and treble I was honestly shocked that the Eris 3.5s were actually starting to sound nearly as good as the Genelecs when listening to uncompressed music files. Don't get me wrong, the Genelec's still sounded superior but the feeling that they sounded $800+ superior started to fade as I got these dialed in.  So, in the end, I pulled my Presonus Eris 3

I'll keep this one short and sweet.  I had these monitors for about a year and listen to music on them every so often and have used them on for audio mixes for video editing. I had the chance to A/B these against two other pairs of studio monitors since, as a professional tv/film editor, I had a couple rented pairs loaned to me for a couple projects.  Up against the M-Audio BX5s these were my preferred speakers

  Currently I'm working with a pair of Genelec 8030a monitors. When I first A/B these to the Eris 3.5's I have to admit, I immediately was ready to sell these. The Genelecs just sound so good for small studio monitors but you're paying a hell of a lot more

 Then I found out that some some of my music sounds extremely good on these. I was surprised. So I canceled the return and now trying to figure out if I keep them or not. I am starting to see what people like about these speakers

Quality speakers with limited bass

My system is nowhere near audiophile quality (a bunch of 90s ish rack system speakers with QSC amps), but I just love my music. I put on a good song, crank it all the way up, and just enjoy it.

PSA: Don’t forget to enjoy your music

 Now they are very helpful and fairly accurate.  It's true they should not be directly against a wall or in a corner (I had to move my setup, and now have mine a little less than a foot from the wall and angled out so their backs aren't parallel with the wall), the tweeters should be at ear level, and there should be something between the base of each speaker and your desk, so your desk doesn't become a bass resonator (I used stacks of books) - I also have the bass adjustment knob on the back of the speaker turned all the way down.  I would definitely not call these portable, but they are small for what they are able to do. Overall I would say get them if you need something small and affordable that still has a complex and neutral sound quality, and only if you have a way to set them up properly

r/audiophile Shopping, Setup, and Technical Help Desk Thread

  I have the speakers wired to a UPS outputting a true sinusoidal waveform. I have also plugged it into a power conditioner with the same results. The level of the noise is not affected by the volume knob.  It's a shame because the sound is otherwise great

 The level of the noise is not affected by the volume knob.  It's a shame because the sound is otherwise great. Unfortunately the constant noise is a bit annoying. I ended up moving the speakers a little further from me (~3' from my face) and raised them so the tweeter is above my head and it's not so noticeable
