 It is worth mentioning though, it probably would be a good idea to take a few minutes to understand how to use the dashcam and maneuver around the different menus and features just to set it up in the configuration that you prefer. Well, now that we're all ready to go, let's go ahead and grab the keys and well, go out for a test drive. From what you can see, this dashcam's quality is excellent. It's capturing a lot of detail, maintaining that wide angle point of view, and still has very smooth playback

 From what we can see, ROV has included most of everything you will need to get this dashcam mounted, set up, and functioning in your vehicle. The only thing you'll have to pick up on your own is a micro SD card, and I'll have the link in the description below if you need one, but they are pretty common these days and can get a fairly large one for relatively cheap. Now let's go ahead and take a look at how to set up the dashcam and get it working in our vehicle. Here's how you connect the suction cup mount to the camera itself

It works, for the most part, but has some issues.

 The Wi-Fi on these is just slow. I almost wish it was Bluetooth. I don't know if that would be an option to have it be like a Bluetooth device that just transfers the data that way and maybe that would have made this cost more and one of the big selling points for this ROV R2 4k dashcam is the price. I've had the Rove R2-4K Dashcam for more than a month; This is what I think and what I changed

I bought a BlackVue DR900X-2CH for $460 plus tax, installed it, and within two days the rear camera stopped working for no apparent reason. I tried everything - power cycle, unplug/replug, inspect cables for bent pins, factory reset, SD card reformat - nothing worked, had to return it. 

Then I bought a Viofo A129 Plus Duo for $175 plus tax. It worked as advertised for a few months, then the rear camera suddenly stopped working and the main camera started intermittently failing to turn on after starting up the car. Again, I've tried everything - power cycle, unplug/replug, inspect plugs, reformat SD, and all to no avail. I tried using the boot delay setting to increase the chances of the camera turning on, and even though the boot is delayed, it still sometimes fails to turn on.

If you search on Reddit, Google, etc, you will see scads of people reporting very similar problems to these. How the f*** is this so common? In what other category of item would we accept the idea that we can spend multiple hundreds of dollars on something that just doesn't work as advertised, and everyone seems stockholm-syndromed into just accepting it and recommending workarounds?

 • Why are seemingly all dashcams made by companies nobody has ever heard of before?

 • Why are the UIs and the mobile apps for fetching the files so f****** dogs***?

 • How is it possible for something to be plugged in, undisturbed for months, and suddenly stop working with nothing having changed on your end or input? Nobody would accept this as the normal course of events if it happened to your raspberry pi, or your router, or the air conditioning in your home...

 • Recording images through a lens, saving those images to disk, allowing you to fetch those images off disk, and supplying power to an electronic device are all pretty much solved problems in 2022, and not very expensive to do. So why do the cameras cost literal hundreds of dollars?

Can anyone help me understand this?

Why are dashcams, broadly, so f****** s***?

  * I love the compact size and shape of this camera. Easily the most attractive of all the 4K options. A+ on looks.  * The windshield mount is fantastic; best I've used

Really wanted to like this...

 Video capture. The R2 performs well here. Unlike most of the other cameras in our test suite, this one not only records constantly but also saves each recording automatically. It records in three-minute clips and simply knocks off the oldest one to make space for the newest

 What this device lacks in interface user-friendliness it makes up for in camera and video capture quality. If you love documenting your scenic trips and appreciate knowing that any happenings on the road will be documented in the event of an accident, then the Rove R2 to 4K is a great choice. It is not the least expensive in our test suite, however, the 4K video and 150° field of view ensure that the memories of your trips remain crisp and clear.

 We did notice that when our headlights reflected off of neighboring license plates, the flare hindered our ability to read the plate. Once we got closer, however, we were always able to make it out. This shouldn't be an issue for video as you will likely have several seconds, or potentially even minutes, in which the plate is in your field of view as the Rove is constantly saving its footage. Rove R2 4K

When I review the videos, they are pretty good quality and pick up decent audio. I tried getting rid of unnecessary videos by hooking cam to my computer. After I did I tried to see if it worked by going onto the app and after clicking the videos folder and the app just crashed. I tried it multiple time even deleting the app but it won't let me see the videos

Recordings are good, user interface, not so much.

 Night footage from this dashcam is pretty good and if you are slow moving and in a well lit parking lot you will clearly see license plates but if you are moving and more in a darker area then the plates will be cleared out. Reading plates is average on this dashcam, way better than 1080p but the clarity is not as good as the Viofo 4K and if you try to read plates of oncoming traffic you will not really be able to compared to the Viofo which you can at least make out 3-4 letter and numbers. The Viofo also is sharper than the Rove but it does come with a higher price tag. The Viofo A129 Pro Duo 4K is priced at $250 for a 2 camera setup with a 4K front facing camera and a 1080p at the back while the Rove is only $110 for one camera

 But it only has the mounting tape permanent install option. So I will not be able to use it like in this situation where I have a rental. So today we will do the unboxing of the Rove R2 4K. Check out its features, set it up and check out its video quality

 We have some documentation which to use the recommended micro SD card. A Samsung EVO Select Class 10 UHS3 128GB card. When I ordered the dashcam, they also emailed me about this information. And to be fair, I bought the recommended micro SD card so that at least we can eliminate an SD card issue if we do get an issue with the recordings later on

 So today we will do the unboxing of the Rove R2 4K. Check out its features, set it up and check out its video quality. And for 110 bucks, this is a pretty good option if you are looking for a higher resolution dashcam. Let's check out its features
