I know this question gets asked semi-frequently here, but I'm hoping some of you can provide advice on a good pair of waterproof or water resistant shoes. I'm looking for shoes that can do moderate day hikes, walks in the rain/shallow puddles or creeks, and are not too out of place at a casual pub. 

I've tried Vessi in the past which I liked for a while, but the heel separated from the footbed within a few months and I've heard of that happening to other people too. For that reason, I'm a little hesitant to try other startup companies, but here are the ones I'm looking at:

Best Waterproof/Water Resistant Shoes

  Since the shoe is made entirely of man-made materials, there's very little stretch in the uppers. With the thinnest socks I have, the shoe is barely comfortable with the insoles in. For medium or thick socks, the insoles have to come out. I don't have particularly high arches, and I don't think sizing up half a size would help: the lack of space with the insole in is primarily vertical, not longitudinal or in width, as if the designers did not account for the thickness of the insole when designing the shoe

This shoe comes with a very thick, memory-foam insole, which could be helpful on a long hike with a pack on. But for shorter excursions or everyday exercise, it's just way too thick, making the fit far too snug on the top of the shoe along the whole length of the foot with medium or thick socks: from the top of the foot at the arch, to the ball of the foot and in the toe box.  Since the shoe is made entirely of man-made materials, there's very little stretch in the uppers. With the thinnest socks I have, the shoe is barely comfortable with the insoles in

  The materials and construction of the shoe seem to be of high quality. I haven't yet tested them in a storm, but it seems like their waterproofing will hold up; the outer seams seem to be very well sealed.

 That'S basically what this is. This is basically a mid top trail runner, that's how its kind of designed that's the thought with it. So if you like trail running shoes, we on your hiking adventures - and you just want something - that's maybe more high top than low top sweet. Then you might really connect with this

 My hard-earned money is that it is very lightweight. It definitely has a flexible light duty feel to it, but still giving us heavy sole traction and giving you gore-tex, and some other features that you definitely want when you're in the backcountry hiking and enjoying adventures on the trail. Now the cool thing with this, just to kind of give you some basic idea before we break down the detailed specs as well as my overall feeling on it and what I love and what I do not love about the shoe, because they're definitely parts of it. For both is that they also make a mid or excuse me

 The low top is a little cheaper, maybe go to the low top you know and or if there's other tool other shoes out there that are better suited for you. That'S what I'm always trying to do with these videos. Just give you a food for thought, content data points, so you can make the right choice and when you are looking at all your gear, particularly in this case your shoe wear. Wish I hadn’t bought them

 In these, these are shoes uh, you know - and this is one nice thing going from boots to hiking shoes - is that you can take these out of the box and go walking, which is what i did and and have zero problems. There'S no break-in right that the shoes practically fold in half so you're not going to have an issue with uh. You know blister straight out of the box unless you did a 20 mile walk on your first day and in which case you'd probably get blisters. Anyway

 These shoes aren't super comfortable, as you can tell, i don't love these shoes uh. I think that you know they're gon na work, but there's just i found of the five that i tested. There'S there's better shoes out there. So that's the midsole, it's underwhelming, i guess the outsole

 This is the bare minimum that you need right in a hiking shoe to be able to hike on a trail, so it would be appropriate if you had a light, backpack or just no backpack at all, so for like day hiking, which is what i'm going to Be doing in italy on the on the mesh they have this coating. I think it's probably a thermoplastic urethane coating that you can see here that that covers part of the mesh which is probably going to protect the mesh. I don't think that these the solution, a lot of hiking shoes, are doing this. I don't think it's going to stand up to a lot of abuse, but a shoe like this probably isn't going to last that long anyway

 Contagrip on the heel i tested the five shoes for slippage i uh was holding on to a suspension, strap in my garage and i'd move to slowly move my feet forward until they started to slip, and then i i kind of ranked them against each other, and These performed worse than all the other shoes, this compound, whatever they use for this is not super grippy. One of the really important things, especially with a hiking shoe, is protection, because when you move from a boot to a hiking shoe, you have less protection, there's just less material between your foot and the trail right, and so different companies come up with different ways of Doing this i don't think um and if i'm wrong go, tell me in the comments, but i don't think this has a like a trail guard thing like danner. Has this thing called trail guard, so they put a hard plastic plate sort of between the outsole and the midsole which protects your foot from sharp objects like rocks, and things like that when i tested these against the four other shoes for protection underfoot, they perform the Worst - and i think that's just that was just a just - a design decision that solomon made for these, but i think you know if you're going to go hiking on a trail, that's got a lot of rocks these shoes. Your feet are gon na feel that more than other options again go check out

 10 years ago, the Quest GTX had rugged long lasting soles, Salomon please get back on it.

 Fit wise, they were just a hair tight, if my "measured" proper fit is 9.5 that's a 10.5 in Nikes or gym shoes, and standardly a 10 if I want to allow a little bit of foot swell as I hike. These in a 10 fit right and just a hair tight, so I'd go half size up from what you'd measure at if you'll be hiking in them – 9

 these I got as an "everyday" wear – I live in Colorado so I prefer a goretex or waterproof shoe even in summer, as you never know when you'll be going through puddles, rain, etc. and I do a fair amount of walking and hiking on loose trail. Fit wise, they were just a hair tight, if my "measured" proper fit is 9.5 that's a 10

 It lasted me 9 months before the bottoms were flat under my heel and toe box where it hits the most wear. I'd say fit wise, loved them very comfortable and supportive and for a "low" they weren't "too low" like a lot of the newer shoe style hikers. I returned the XA Pro, Pathfinder Mid, and Outbound Prism's for this reason, your foot doesn't get enough support in those below the ankle IMO. The tread on this, like most Salomon, are first class when it's new, but all their new soles tend to wear so fast

The downfall of ordering shoes online is that you can't try them on beforehand. I normally wear a size 11, which is what I ordered. The length is right, but the toe box is on the tight side. I didn't see anything saying this is a narrow shoe, and wonder if that's just how Salomons are typically cut (this is my first pair)
