Users can delete or request the data the bot collects in this Samsung app as well, which is a positive, though overall it still earns a middle-of-the-road Good rating in our data privacy tests. (No brand of robotic vacuums scores higher than a Good, though.) In our data security tests, which assess how well a robot protects your data, it earns a Very Good rating. Continuing with our series on low and mid-level robot vacuums we're reviewing the Samsung power bot our 70/40, we put it through a lot of tests and this video will be the results and our review links in the description for current prices on the r7 240, as well As links to our reviews on other robot vacuums in this series and let's get started first, let's look at the pros. The Samsung r74 T is the budget version of the Wi-Fi enabled power box from Samsung, but it has some hardware and some features that you typically only see on high-end robot vacuums, for example, it has a camera and a suite of front mounted sensors that combine to Make it really advanced when it comes to navigation? More than half of the robot vacuums. We'Re testing in this price range are dumb navigation, BOTS, meaning they randomly bounce around to clean your home, but the r7 240 cleans inefficient straight lines, which saves a lot of time and battery life. It was particularly methodical and it did indeed cover the entire area, even in the obstacle course with no major missed spots

 But despite having just average power, it actually did much better than average on the crevice pickup test, which I chalk up to a well-designed seal. On the brush surface, its pickup ability on carpet was about average. It picked up all the debris, from fine debris to pet hair and even extra large debris with no issues. I did find that on high power, it was better but not much of a difference as even in low power

Samsung Powerbot R7040 Review - Robot Vacuum Tests

The Samsung POWERbot R7040 is an okay overall robot vacuum. It has great automation features as it has a smart pathing feature that uses a camera to track itself. If it's done cleaning a room and still has battery life left, it starts cleaning the room for a second time until it runs out of battery. It has decent performance on bare floors as it picks up most debris but it struggles on carpet, so this isn't ideal if you have any carpet at home

 Hopefully, Samsung will address these issues and come up with a better unit that is reliable and efficient.. Finally, all robotic vacuum cleaners today require the floor to be clear of small objects. If you have a toddler at home, you will end up spending more time to keep the floor clear off all the toys / tiny objects

 What is Good about it The little unit has a powerful but quite motor. When it does work, it has a good suction power. Home buttons are quite convenient, responsive and easy to operate. User manual is detailed, easy to understand

 Also, it failed to clean corners and really struggled on a area rug. Could not transit from wooden floor to area rug or back from rug to wooden floor. While it cleaned a square / rectangle room perfectly, it failed to clean the corners of a hallway. Connecting to a wifi and "samrt things" app is easy but maintaining the connection is another story

 It is worth if the need is limited to particular areas without any floor transition and requires constant cleaning. Bottom Line: I would not consider this unit as my primary vacuum. It is good as a secondary vacuum for restricted use. However, at this price point I would think twice if I have to pay the full price

Not what I expected from a brand like Samsung

 The last 3 he has literally ran himself dead, and couldn't make it back to recharge.  I would like to think it is aware of remaining battery, and make his way back to the dock before he runs out, but I have found him in the middle of the room with nothing around, completely dead, the last 3 runs.

 Deep cleaning the dust bin, maybe once a week.  Performance: It is important to have the right expectations here. This is for maintaining, not "cleaning" if you will. When I bought this, I was so excited to use it, I charged it and set it free

 I had the thing go 4 or 5 times straight and I still didn't think it was cleaning well. After I vacuumed, swept, and mopped though, this guy really shined! Running it once a day, or night, kept the house and rugs clean! It will never replace your upright, but will for sure add in tons of time in-between having to pull it out. All the while taking car of any dust bunnies. Also seems like dusting is just something that doesn't really have to be done anymore

Great robot vacuum- Would recommend

 That says a lot.  If this vacuum could operate reliably (i.e. find its way back to its base station for recharging and manage to clean the entire floor), I would be much higher on it

 This was my first challenge with this machine. The Powerbot would not connect to my phone to allow me to setup the machine in the app. I proceeded to try it on my iPad Air and then on my work phone (iPhone 6). It would not connect to any of them

Decent Robotic Vac

 Took me about a month of calling and emailing tech support back and forth to get the app to work and the vacuum connected to internet, and by that time the return window had closed, or I probably would have returned it. The app should have a mapping function to show me how it’s functioning, but it does not. On a positive note, it does save me from sweeping daily. It does increase the suction on carpet automatically, but fails to pick up all the particles like pet hair and leaves

It does have to be cleaned out every use (including the brush on the bottom if you have pets), but that’s pretty easy to do. Unless you’re into wiping it every time though, it looks pretty yucky after just a few uses

This vacuum simply does not replace my vacuum. It’s good at basically reducing pet hair hair throughout the week. But it’s mapping ability is seriously lacking. It misses about half the floor, even when all it needs to do it run from wall to wall in a straight line

Still a long way to go

I purchased the Powerbot R7040 vacuum thinking it would be a nice to have for my automated home, but have to come really appreciate its efficiency. It is not perfect by any means, but I believe it is one of the best models out there. It is a nice balance between cost and capabilities. I have a large upstairs with transitions between hardwood floors, and carpets, and carpets on hardwood floors and carpets on carpets

 I have two animals running around and lots of furniture in the way. I schedule it to clean each day around noon, when no one is home and come home to empty out the dust bin of all the dog and cat hair that collect there. There was a bit of a learning curve and some frustration early on, when I was coming home to find it under a chair (it managed to get under the chair, but could not find its way out) or when it wedged itself under the railing of a drop off. But I have found a couple of simple ways to keep it on task and focused on its primary job

First impression when you receive parcel, it’s big, heavy and sturdy. I already had robot vacuums from different other brands, so first impression on build quality feels better. One issue could be that the look of the PowerBot R7040 is quite distinctive, which make him stand out when placed in a place where you can easily see it. Other robots have more discreet designs

 Setup of WiFi and SmartThings integration is easy. Alexa support is also great. Use: The first time you use it you will be surprises on how truly quiet it is compared to conventional vacs as well as other robotic vacuums. While the cleaning is going on you can carry on with your other activities, no need to leave the house
