Ex mattress saleslady here: if you’re going to spend that on a Sealy, just go for the Tempurpedic. You can put any tempurpedic on a Sealy base. Tempurpedic is the best.

I made the mistake of saying DIY mattress to her, she has less than zero interest in doing any research. In her eyes, store + name brand = guaranteed perfect quality always; especially if you buy their most expensive product! And she wants that sealy 10 year warranty (which is apparently the best in the business?) ...I also don't have $7K, and while I would qualify for a loan, I don't exactly want to take out a 5 year loan for a bed!

To avoid making this a relationship question, how can I emphasize the benefits of DIY over a (in my opinion) VASTLY overpriced sealy mattress? Or is there another, cheaper, commercial mattress someone would recommend? Thank you for reading!

Fiancee wants $7K Sealy bed like her parents, I want DIY

 I was very upset because it cost a little over $2k. The company came over, refunded our previous purchase (the local mattress company is 100% amazing & accommodating), placed the frame - 2 XL twin box springs under the mammoth king size. The company threw a bed in a bag into the mix for free. ***Complaints about the mattress only, not the business are as follows*** I

 The last 2 spring mattresses have somehow had busted coils within the first month. My last one was awful. I had to put old pillows under it, purchase a mattress topper (on here - Amazon) & that thing’s elastic holder popped the first time adjusting it. My husband insisted I return it, but I just didn’t have the energy

 I’m living with herniated discs in my cervical spine & lower back. After all the crappery of the other mattresses (all queen size), he purchased this in king size. I was very upset because it cost a little over $2k. So, this is my third mattress purchase in 2 years. 4th mattress in 2 years. This “Cadillac” mattress was great in the showroom. Felt awesome, thought it’d be great for my back and neck problems

 I liked it, not as soft as the hybrid 4000 to me but it’s still a comfortable bed. I do like the price more compared to the 4000, though.

 Financing a new mattress from a store is truly a nightmare because you cannot return, only exchange for something else in that price range. With the price of this one, you are better off getting a sleep number bed with the base and everything.  My boyfriend loved this mattress but even he had an issue with the smell at first. I’ve owned foam toppers and other mattresses before and this is different from that “new smell” needs to “air”

 We’ve had this for a month and I feel like I can’t breathe and wake up in the middle of the night because of it. I am naturally someone very sensitive to chemicals and if you are too - AVOID. They are lying in the store and online when they say the smell isn’t that bad or fades away or just “new.” Find something else that doesn’t have the foam cooling technology or dark in color

Someone commented below in 2018 with this issue also “ CertiPurUS certified and why is it still having the terrible smell for such a long time?” - it’s now 2020 and there still have been no changes to this pure black colored dye smell whatever it is.

Avoid if you are sensitive to chemicals

The mattress itself is not a style that I would typically get, I prefer the super plush type that give you nice warm hugs at night. However, I tried this one out in stores and decided that this along with the Temperpedic Ergo base would make a perfect combination! So far, so good! I've had both the mattress and base (which was ordered through a different company) set up in my home since 12/14.  Now the bad. Delivery was outsourced to Pilot, who by the way did a great job communicating

We've had the Sealy Posturepedic Hybrid Cooling Matress for about three months now, and it is most definitely a comfy mattress, super well-constructed, and yes, it's cool, too!  Our experience began with Pilot dropping off the mattress; the box wasn't in the best condition, with holes and drag areas, and due to these spots the mattress itself had areas where small bits of splintered pallet was imbedded into the surface. We very carefully removed all this debris, gently cleaned the surface, and the mattress looked 100% after some TLC.  The sleep experience is quite comfy. It's plush, and as a person who runs very hot, I can definitely perceive the cooling properties of the mattress
