 So if it was me and I was a musician and you know I didn't have a really loud band just kind of a medium loud band I would probably go with the standard KSM 9 and I think you'd be really happy with that. So we'll talk just a little bit more in the next part part four and that'll be the final part of the review.

 So if you're looking for a microphone that is above and beyond you know and you're really able to hone in your craft on your vocals you probably might want to pick these up. Now as far as the difference between the HS and the KSM 9 one thing I did notice in listening to the differences the KSM 9 in the cardioid to me sounds the most balanced. The sub cardioid in the HS I haven't really done much with that but the hyper cardioid in the HS has a lot of bass to it you know and I find myself rolling off a ton of bass on the HS in the hyper cardioid. That being said you do get the most gain before feedback in the hyper cardioid in the HS and the KSM 9 in the super cardioid seems to kind of be a middle ground it does seem to boost the bass a little bit but it does give you more gain before feedback but not quite as much as the hyper cardioid pattern of the HS

 So first of all the sound quality is outstanding as you might expect with Shure's premium vocal microphone but one thing I could tell you is it sounds very very authentic to the voice of the person singing on the microphone and this is probably the only microphone I've ever heard that sounds identical to the voice of the person singing. So that's just something for musicians to think about I guess if you want it to just sound very true to your voice this might be the perfect microphone for you. Also it's got a very smooth top end the mid-range is very musical and the low frequencies are very rich. This microphone doesn't have a lot of proximity effect like some mics when you get close to it it gets really bassy they did a lot to address that in the internal electronics and it just overall has a great sound

So we're talking a little bit about these microphones and the quality and the sound and just a couple things I noticed. Looking for a change from the SM58

That's right! When I A/B test my KSM9 with the legendary hyper-cardioid microphone -- used in more movies and TV shows than you can count -- the KSM9 beats the Sennheiser 416 on off-axis rejection in a noisy environment.

 This one just stays natural and warm throughout and doesn't get brittle and very cost effective. We didn't want to go after the microphone that was pretty much at the top of the ladder for live vocals. I won't mention names or model numbers but there was a mic that we all know out there that's pretty much ruling the roost and when we decided to make a microphone we didn't want to do a me too. We wanted to do something completely different and this is completely different

 I can't do omni and bidirectional but I can do multiple patterns between cardioid and super cardioid. That's a huge advantage on a live stage because if you've got drums behind you or a loud wedge right in front of you, you might want to collapse that polar pattern down to a little bit more of a focus and you would get more gain and less feedback. That's a huge advantage and being able to do it right on the mic without having to go back to the mic locker and get a different microphone is definitely a huge factor. But the nicest thing I like about this mic is just the quality of the sound

I was at a small venue and they had a Peavey CM1 mic that I had alongside some 58's and I loved the sound right out of the Peavey.   
Now that I'm doing a lot with cameras I enjoy that studio sound without obscuring performers faces.   
Any more recommendations on that highly accurate sound without a big pop filter? Would love to do a side by side with these 3.

 That's going to be a great demo to hear the difference between these two microphones. So what we're going to do is we'll have Marcus sing the track twice, once with KSM-8, once with the KSM-9, and then we'll come back and we'll talk about it and share our thoughts on it. Cool. Let's do it

 Very interesting. It is. You know, listening through headphones and with no backing track or anything, you're right under the microscope there, but both those mics sound really good on your voice. They do, really, really clear

 Like you said, the other one's a little smoother, but the KSM-9 is what I mean by the other one, but what I notice with that one is how dynamic it is, your softs are softer and your louds are louder, so they're very different microphones, really. The thing I think we need to make sure we point out is that this is what it sounds like on your voice, on my voice, which no one would want to hear, it would sound very different, just because of the way the microphone's frequency response is and the way it's dynamic response is as well. But on your voice, of course, you have such a wide range that you cover from lows to highs, and so it's a pretty good demonstration of what these two mics sound like. So yeah, there are some notable differences there, but obviously they both sound great, and actually if I was sitting down in the studio and recording those, I mean a little tweak of EQ and a little bit of compression on either one, and I'd be happy with either of those microphones

 You know, listening through headphones and with no backing track or anything, you're right under the microscope there, but both those mics sound really good on your voice. They do, really, really clear. Yeah, so are you hearing big differences between them as the performer listening to them? Alright, so one, I can hear more of the grit, because I'm going from smooth to rough, but one is capturing more of the grit, which I like it, and the other one is capturing more of the smooth sound, so I can definitely hear the difference. Yeah, yeah, the KSM-8 is probably the one you're hearing bring out that grit a little bit more, it has a little bit more to my ears anyway, it has a little bit more of a presence peak, so that upper mid-range and those highs are just a little bit more forward on that one

In terms of microphones… I absolutely love the Shure Beta 87 and  KSM9 for this situation. These are condensers, so you’ll get more of everything.

Live mic for a quiet singing voice?

 I recently buy an item that cost $750, and when i received the item, the item is not box by a regular amazon box but by the item's box alone and the box is not sealed its like somebody unbox it already for me. It's very frustrating and the worst is, when i tried the item it is defective. It's a very hussle when you only want in the first place is to buy good, working defent product. Kinda traumaticing
