I still believe the a7rii is a great camera, but don't believe for a second that ...

 This camera is being lauded not just for its stills capability, but for its video capability as well. And I should mention something else. The first part of the video, Jordan's going to be shooting in the 4K mode, full frame sensor. You know for high ISO it's not the best camera on the market right now, something like the Nikon D810s, D750s are still very very good, I would say slightly better when it comes down to the RAW but this new sensor is fantastic, yeah I mean the reason we're not talking about Nikon is because there's almost no reason to because if you're shooting Nikon, stay with Nikon, they're great cameras, why are you watching, well and you know we should say too, here's the other thing, I mean we're making these comparisons against Canon and that's really for two reasons, I mean first off Canon has put out the big front runner for megapixels so of course they're going to be a target but I think even more importantly you have to remember that Canon users have been looking for high megapixels for a long time and Sony and really up to this point, Metabones as a company have been instrumental in making Canon lenses work on Sony bodies so Canon users are the ones naturally looking at oh hey maybe the Sony is an alternative for you, it's like a conspiracy to shift Canon users over to Sony, it could be, it's probably going to work, we have a lot of new adapters coming out on the market but so far Nikon lenses just aren't supported well not to mention the other brands so yeah we really do have to draw comparisons specifically right now between Sony and Canon and maybe they'll change in the future, I'm sure Sony would love a piece of Nikon's market share too, all right so final thoughts when it comes to stills, what did you think about the Sony? The autofocus performance with the Canon lenses isn't the ultimate for me right now, I don't have a huge collection of Sony lenses right now, if I had a bunch of Sony's, if I was starting off from scratch then yeah I probably would go for the Sony's by all means, those few times where I want to capture action where I have a moving subject I'm not going to trust the Sony as much, you know here's the thing I think the Sony 7R Mark II is a fantastic camera, I was quite skeptical when we first looked at it because it looked too good to be true, I think it does focus way better than any of its predecessors, the image quality is stunning, whether you hand hold it or use a tribal eye, dynamic range is great, high ISO performance is great, I like the way the camera handles, it's stable, so the EVF is brilliant, so I guess for me I think if you're starting out or if you're an enthusiast this camera is going to do great, I totally agree, the only thing I think that's going to keep professionals from saying okay forget my SLR's let's go Sony is because working professionals as you know and as I find from the store when they're talking about it, if there's any sort of hiccups or slowing down or unpredictability when you're working on a job those things are just killers, you don't want them, you need complete reliability like out on a shoot when your clients are there and the art director is there, it's like performance and if you're like sweating, oh my god I just had an audible staff and I'm looking at the camera and I didn't get that shot, what am I going to do? Exactly and I think that's the reason why people are still going to go tried and true, you know Sony has to show, and maybe they will as firmware updates and stuff come out, if they can make their cameras 100% reliable with all the adapters, with the lenses, yeah I think we could certainly see people moving over and making this a professional camera for professional markets

This moving over thing has happened before though, I remember people switching from Nikon to Canon because Canon at the time was better and then now they're switching from Canon to Nikon and now Canon to Sony or whatever, jumping ships is a little bit dangerous. Yeah it is tough, I think you know Metabones if it can work a little bit better, because we do have issues once in a while, if it can work better or if Sony starts coming out with some better glass and more glass they certainly still need that, I think the Sony 7R Mark II is going to be a big success in the future

The autofocus system is a vast improvement over the A7ii, but at this price point, it fails to compare and will result in many missed shots. The camera would be fine for still photography

 This has been documented online and in other reviews. Congrats to Sony for achieving groundbreaking phase detection on sensor, but it falls far short of DSLR's with dedicated phase detection modules. The camera particularly struggles at high focal lengths and short distances, or in anything other than sunlight. AF-C on a moving subject, such as a dog or a kid, fails many times if the subject is moving toward the camera

  The autofocus system is a vast improvement over the A7ii, but at this price point, it fails to compare and will result in many missed shots. The camera would be fine for still photography.  Many would be attracted to the small form factor of the A7Rii, but if you look at the camera with the attached FE lenses, the size is virtually the same (it is a simple matter of the physics of the light path onto a full frame sensor).  AF works on non-native lenses about the same as native lenses, which is a benefit

 But I did a head to head comparison of the same lenses on the A7Rii and the SLT A99, which revealed materially degraded relative AF performance.

 In terms of video you have the option to also change a lot of the profile settings for your color and what's cool is that it comes with S-Log, it comes with Cine, you know there's really a lot of flexibility and customization that you can do depending on the workflow that you have. And so really in terms of that aspect it pretty much covers everything that you need. Now you can shoot also high frame rates 60 frames per second but the thing is that is only up to 1080. It doesn't go 120 but for me personally 60 frames per second is totally usable and it's more than enough for what I do

 I mean the file the file sizes are huge but 42 megapixel even in today's standard is still quite a lot. And the fact that it can shoot 4k internally is pretty much a very very good thing to have you know for a lot of people out there who are looking into more videography. In terms of video you have the option to also change a lot of the profile settings for your color and what's cool is that it comes with S-Log, it comes with Cine, you know there's really a lot of flexibility and customization that you can do depending on the workflow that you have. And so really in terms of that aspect it pretty much covers everything that you need

 So another great thing about this camera is that it has IBIS and you know for for me I like to shoot run and gun and for those out there who are running gun shooters of course that will help out a lot. One other great thing about this is that it is very rugged it's definitely well built and I've certainly dropped mine a couple times and it has a lot of scratches already, a lot of bangs but it's totally totally fine and it works perfectly and also a great thing about this camera is that it has a super clear EVF. Certainly the EVF on a lot of newer ones is a lot better but with this particular generation it's it's still very clear it's awesome you know you could really see how your photo is going to look like even before you take the photo which is awesome and so really with the EVF it tells all the information that you need and you know there's it's I think in terms of really working with mirrorless cameras I think it's a great introduction to to the platform and you know the EVF works extremely well. So we talked about a lot of the good things of the camera now we get into the more cons of the Mark II and so one of the main things that I will have to point out is the battery life

 Certainly the EVF on a lot of newer ones is a lot better but with this particular generation it's it's still very clear it's awesome you know you could really see how your photo is going to look like even before you take the photo which is awesome and so really with the EVF it tells all the information that you need and you know there's it's I think in terms of really working with mirrorless cameras I think it's a great introduction to to the platform and you know the EVF works extremely well. So we talked about a lot of the good things of the camera now we get into the more cons of the Mark II and so one of the main things that I will have to point out is the battery life. It's not really that good they have addressed this in the newer cameras but if you are looking and getting this I advise you to get a lot of the NP-F W50s on this and I carry about four with me all the time. When shooting video I will tell you I have not gone on a full day of shoot with just those four batteries you know when you're shooting stills you can get away with it but do keep in mind that it really does eat up a lot of battery and it really is one of those things that it falls on

Is The Sony A7RII still WORTH IT?

Great camera, but there are shortcomings

 Pooh! Have that in your face! Canon Nikon, it's 0.78x! Woof! This is better than real life. I could just strap two of these to my eyes and walk around for the rest of the day like this. Don't even need glasses

 If you want a great video camera that is good in low light the A7SII will probably be the ultimate for video when it comes out. So it's a pass right? Just hold on to your money right? Well if you want the best you'll never get it. If you want a really bloody good camera that is here and now, well you're looking at it.

 That is perhaps the only problem with Sony A7 cameras with the speed at which they update them. If there's any doubt about A7RII you should probably just wait because they've most likely got the third version lined up to be released in a few months or something like that. If you want a great video camera that is good in low light the A7SII will probably be the ultimate for video when it comes out. So it's a pass right? Just hold on to your money right? Well if you want the best you'll never get it

 42.4 megapixels sounds good and it certainly packs a punch. Images have plenty of finesse. Oodles of detail

Wonderful Camera: Review from a photo enthusiast.

 We are really excited about this camera. We have a few disappointments but they're actually way fewer than for just about any recent camera that's been announced. Usually I go through and I say oh it doesn't have 4k recording. It has internal 4k recording in a couple of different formats

 And for a camera that could be an amazing video camera, the lack of a touchscreen is a real problem. The touchscreen allows you to easily focus on a subject while recording. Without a touchscreen you can use a little directional pad to move your focusing point around and push a button to focus but that's going to jiggle the camera and that's not acceptable while you're recording. So your alternative is to get kind of a big focus pulling rig and often a separate focus puller

 Up first, the 42.4 megapixel sensor is about like a 17 improvement over the previous generation's 36 megapixel sensor. It goes, it's rated up to ISO 102,000 which is basically we found meaningless. It doesn't seem like having higher ISOs actually means you get better image quality
