 I shot a few sessions on JPEG and quality is good enough if that's what you're into, but RAW shooters can claw back an immense amount of detail from shadows and highlights in post. Video performance is also impressive. There's not a lot to write home about in terms of HD video due to the already impressive array of HD shooters on the market, but 4K performance is exciting to say the least. The Super 35 sensor produces gloriously detailed images in a tiny package

 Which begs the question, should you switch to Sony? Lens availability will be a big deciding factor as will price. You don't need to spend mega bucks on a Zeiss lens for good results, but you'll find many compatible E-mount and F E-mount lenses that cost more than the camera itself. Cheaper glasses on the way from manufacturers like Sigma, but if you've already invested in a decent set of Nikon or Canon lenses you might be hesitant. That's something you're going to have to work out for yourself, but be aware that the E-mount lineup currently tops out at about 210mm, which will be a problem for serious sports action or wildlife photographers

 You'll also find the lens to be a little soft in terms of details around the edge of the frame at its widest points, but things get much crisper when zoomed all the way in. This is often the case with zooms and kit lenses, you'll get sharper results from less versatile prime lenses every time. Which begs the question, should you switch to Sony?  However, under the same low-light, non-flash conditions (literally same shot & conditions) using Sony 18-105mm F4 or Sony 70-200mm F4, the results are out of focus (soft) Not even close to crispness of my Nikon D7000 or D750 with equivalent zoom focal length and aperture. I have spent thousands of hard earned $$$$ on Sony a6000 and a63000 body, lenses and flash to reduce the size & weight vs my Nikon equipment. I do a lot of low light photography. Sony jpeg processing in low light is very good

 Current reviews of Sony a7Rii seem to reflect the same auto focus = requires Fast Heavy lens as I see with Sony a6300. Great results with a6000 & a6300 in DMF or Manual mode. Like my old Minolta STR-102 (yes 1970's days of film).

 So that is 4K that is down sampled from 6K, which gives it a really clean, great image and has a 24.2 megapixel sensor. What I found is that even though it's 24.2 megapixels, it still does really well in 4K in low light without too much noise

 Now, when it comes to battery life, you're going to want extra batteries or a battery grip. I'm going to be completely honest. The batteries that this guy uses is not like the Z batteries that the A73 uses. Those batteries are tremendous

And that's only better with the most expensive APC camera in this row, the a6600, which has larger batteries like the a74 or a73. To easily get rid of this problem, you can buy a handful of spare batteries or you can build a cinema rig and power your bad boy with a WeMount or Sony NPF batteries

But first let's start with the reasons why I bought this camera back then and why these reasons still remain in 2022, even in comparison to your newer models and competitors.  You can get to about 20 minutes if you unfold the LCD display to give it more room to cool, but overall recording is limited to 29:50 minutes; The recording will just stop without any warning, so you could miss shots. Unfortunately I record build V-Logs over a extended time period like 30-45 minutes and my old GH4 had no issues whatsoever, but that comes to the cost of image quality, looking at my attachment for example. To get best of both worlds, people need to add a external 4K recorder like Atomos Ninja Assassin to do multiple hour long sessions if they want. But then you're damn close to the A7S II which had the overheating fixed via firmware

 Travel size/weight with this camera is minimal. I really love the compact, yet well-made camera body! Although the video is not full-frame, I have captured some INCREDIBLY SHARP 4K video with this camera. The built-in microphone is decent quality but I recommend using the Sony stereo mic that attaches to the shoe for optimal results! The Sony a6300 and Sony a7R2 are currently the only two cameras that I now travel with. I love how the menu system of each is very similar

Great 4K "B camera" not full-frame

 The 4K implementation in this camera is nothing like the A7 line. It's really awful. If you are planning to buy this to shoot 4K video you are going to be disappointed. Any motion at all on the part of the operator ruins the shot

 It looked like the world was made of jello. And still shots would still jerk around and warp to some degree.  I hope Sony improves the quality control of the production line (a little less dust please) and I really hope they can do something about the jello world effect and the jerkiness of the image (even when the camera is still). It makes the 4K unusable

 What the heck Sony, does the A6300 line have the same poor quality control of the old A57s? The cleaning mode did not help. Seeing as I had the camera for 1 day I just sent it back.  In my day with the camera I witnessed great still shots, and unbelievably bad video. I used a new 55mm Sony full frame lens (that does not have stabilization) and when filming 4K the image jumped around even when the camera was held completely still
