6 it's very good at F/8 even a touch better, it stays there sharp down to F-16 where diffraction causes a little softening. Overall, the Lanza's razor sharp in the middle, but the corners need some persuasion by stopping down for really decent results. Still, it is sharper than the 16 millimeter lens. all right vignetting and Distortion Normally this is corrected by your camera, but if you turn off the corrections or shooting law, then you're treated to some strong bowel distortion and very heavy vignetting

 Kind of ruins the lenses small size, but then again, what else would you expect? and the Lands also has a forty nine millimeter filter thread for very small filters. On the whole, perfect build quality. really. especially nice to see in one of Sony's oldest amount lenses

 At F 2.8 at F/4 the corners brighten up and again at F 5.6 but there will always be some corner shading there unless he shoots with image Corrections This lens can focus as closely as 20 centimeters to your subject, nice and close. Really like a large number of Sony lenses I've tested at the widest aperture, we see some softness and strong color fringing

8 It's an autofocus pancake lens for Sony's amount cameras, and it covers an Aps-c image circle. If you mount it onto one of Sony's full-frame cameras, you'll just see a ton of vignetting in the corners unless you shoot in crop mode. Of course, it costs two hundred and fifty pounds in the UK or about three hundred US dollars. This lens has a slightly bigger brother, the 16 millimeter F 2 Point 8, which gives slightly more dramatically wide-angle pictures, but has very weak image quality in its corners

  Autofocus is a touch noisy, especially in video with continuous autofocus. My mic doesn't seem to pick up the noise thankfully. You're not going to use this lens for really fast moments since the autofocus can't keep up - at least on the a6400. Works well enough for casual, moderate pace street scenes or kids

Discrete APS-C Lens

8 the Sony 20 at least gives you the added bonus of not having that terrible magnetic AF system that makes your frame pulsate like the veins on your grandfather's forehead when you have to remind him that he was never on the peninsula. He just mixed up his heart medication last year and climbed on to a Korea to California Coastal tour bus. And let's talk about build quality and features of the Sony 20 Millimeter F 2.8 This 6 element lens has three aspherical elements promising reduce distortion aberration

 and by that nature, it's already gotten a lot of good stuff going for it. [music] First off, let's talk about the price. A new Sony 20-millimeter will run you about three hundred dollars. and while that's not exactly pocket change, that's about two hundred dollars cheaper than the semi-professional Sony ultra wide 10 to 18 millimeter whose maximum aperture only goes up to about F/4 And while the Sony is about $100 more than its closest off-market competitor, the Sigma 19 millimeter F 2

 The key feature may be only feature of this lens is that it does have the Sony AF motors that focus blazingly quietly and quickly. but the lack of optical SteadyShot might shove some video nerds. but frankly, most pancake lenses and cine lenses lack optical steadyshot of any kind, so consider it as good as a Cine lens in that regard for image quality, the Sony is tack sharp around the center, but there is a noticeable clarity fall off and vignetting around the edges that basically every aperture along with barrel distortion. I mean, it really shouldn't be a surprise that a pancake lens isn't gonna have the best image quality in the world

 Even small Aps-c built zoom lenses like the 18 to 105 are still pretty big and bulky compared to a pancake lens. And talking about the Sony 20 millimeter is definitely not a discussion on the luxuries of life on the road, it's a discussion of affordable compromise. The Sony 20 Millimeter is definitely not the best lens for professional video work or many technical reasons. I'm sure a full sales college indie filmmaker who double mortgages their condo for thousands of dollars worth of Cine glass will tell you again and again, especially with its lack of OSS making it not as friendly for vloggers or even the average consumer, but for running gun fun

BEATING A DEAD HORSE: The Sony 20mm f 2.8 APSC E Mount Lens Review

I would give it four stars for size alone, but image quality just isn't that spectacular (three stars) -- not really much better than the 16mm pancake I already have. Unless you REALLY REALLY want a pancake, you would be better off with the 19mm Sigma f/2.8 at $200.Not to mention the fact that the Sigma comes with a very nice case and sun visor (the Sony comes with nothing)

Good but not great. Go for a Sigma unless you need this flattest pancake lens.

 Like I said, pretty decently sharp as well, just not as fast as the 35. So just for fun, I Did go out and order the ultra wide converter for this lens because I Thought it would be interesting to look at the Sony twenty millimeter lens with the ultra wide converter and compare that to the Sony 16 millimeter. I Think the 20 millimeter with the ultra wide converter will be sharper than the 16 millimeter Sony lens, but I'm curious by how much so that is going to be it for this video.  Auto focus is noisy and slow, not great for low light, etc, just not what I'd hoped for. Bit larger, but a far better lens for a prime lens, is the 1.8/35 and that's a great lens all around and what I will use an all around lens. Not sharp in corners. Autofocus on a6500 not as fast as other Sony lenses. An okay lens if size and weight is your main criteria. I hoped this would be an excellent video lens but, alas, it was not to be

Wish I could have used it

As other people have mentioned, the images are fairly flat and not very sharp. For the price, I was expecting more (especially since the kit lens is almost comparable). It is lightweight and portable though.
