I’ll give you this, your average Joe won’t care to here the difference between the Sony WH-1000XM3 and  a much better headphone like the Sennheiser HD58X. The soundstage, separation, and highs aren’t good with the XM3, but it’s something you wouldn’t notice much unless you’re listening analytically.

 I can save some substantial money if i get the older model but I don’t want buyers regret.

As a complete novice in headphones. Will i notice the difference between the Sony WH-1000XM4 and Sony WH-1000XM3?

 Probably the best feature, other than the quality of the sound and the ANC. 4) Comfort - I have had no problem wearing these headphones for several hours at a time. 5) Design - Very mixed emotions on this issue. Love the fold-away storage feature and solid build quality, but hate the touchpad volume controls, which just about every time I used them inadvertently skipped to the next music track

 Further, I never use my headphones on a laptop or to speak on a cell phone, so the concerns some reviewers posted about issues involving those situations don't affect me. I don’t wear these headphones everyday and I don’t use them for gaming; I use them with a pad for occasionally listening to music at home and have used them on one airline flight. Further, I have no connection at all to Sony and what follows is my honest evaluation.  POSITIVE 1) Sound Quality - Very muddy and bass-heavy until equalized with their app

 Afterward, fantastic sound; maybe the best I’ve ever heard. 2) Ambient Noise-Cancelling (ANC) - Simply outstanding. Almost completely neutralized all of the ambient noise on a full airline flight. Once I started playing music, there was no ambient noise whatsoever

 Further, even with the negative aspects mentioned, I still love these headphones, as they definitely get the job done for me, by isolating me completely from ambient noise when I'm in an airport or on a crowded flight. For me, these headphones are worth the money and I can live with the known negatives. Other people may feel differently. If Sony redesigned these headphones, to address the negative aspects I mentioned, in my opinion these headphones would easily rate 5 stars

WORTH EVERY PENNY, BUT NOT PERFECT!

So far, I’m really impressed. Sound stage is a night and day difference, and the midrange is just fabulous. Also, the addition of True Bass button on the Zen DAC makes this headphone perfect for movies and gaming.

This more of a general question. Could a software EQ with something like a K5 pro achieve the same bass boost sound as the switch on the ifi zen dac? Or is there some difference when the bass boost is applied at the amp / dac level rather than software EQ?

Just got my Sundaras connected to a THX AAA 887 and Topping E30 and "WOW" is all I can say.

Nice setup man, I recently got into this whole audiophile experience. I chose Meze 99 neo, since I wanted a closed back headphone. I am satisfied but need to know whether an amp or hi res player would make a difference.

Finally, I got my first audiophile headphone setup. The HiFiMAN Sundara and iFi Zen DAC!

 Opening and closing of doors. It's not cancelling that much noise. The Bose did a worse job, but it makes you wonder. The most annoying thing about these headphones is the fact they can't pair with more than 1 device at a time

 It really sucks. The only thing that is keeping me from giving these headphones 2 stars is the sound quality is pretty good, battery life is good, and they feel comfortable to me. Honestly, in hindsight I probably would have been better buying some headphones for $100-$150.

 So I watched some Youtube product reviews and gave these a shot. I don't know if my expectations were just much higher, but honestly its not like they cancel out a ridiculous amount of noise. I can still hear everything around me it's just dampened. Definitely not cancelled, and honestly it doesn't do that much for me even when working in the office I can still hear every ones chatter, people walking around me

I tried the Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones in the store and I didn't think their noise cancelling was that great. So I watched some Youtube product reviews and gave these a shot. They're Okay

I'm coming off of the Sony WH-1000XM3 and they're great for travelling and commuting. But as I spent most of my time at home over the past year (for obvious reasons), I wanted something better for my desk.

Got my first pair of open backs and I couldn't be happier!

 As a software engineer, I needed a pair of headphones that I could COMFORTABLY wear all day and the Sonys simply do not live up to that task. After approximately 90 minutes, I start to feel a light pain on the top of my head from the clamping of the headphones and my ears start to feel warm which is extremely uncomfortable. I am then forced to remove them to reduce the fatigue before I can put them back on.  The Bose on the other hand I can wear seemingly endlessly without any discomfort

5/10. The sound on the Bose isn't bad but for the price, they offer a far less impressive sound profile than the Sonys. Everything sounds great on the Sony while the Bose couldn't handle certain genres as well (bass heavy electronic music for example).  Now that that's out of the way, the reason why I will be returning these and keeping the Bose is because of the comfort level

 There is absolutely no contest in that area. These are a 10/10 while the Bose are approximately 7.5/10. The sound on the Bose isn't bad but for the price, they offer a far less impressive sound profile than the Sonys

that being said though, Sony WH-1000XM3’s can be on sale refurbished on ebay from time-to-time for less than $180, but that’s double your budget. they are one of the best ANC headphones currently on the market though, it may be worth saving for!.

Which are the best noice cancelling headphones both active and passive I want the best result since I live in a loud area

 I got it going but then I wanted to watch football on the iPad so switched off bluetooth and things were messed up when I tried to use a second time. Decided the assistant was not worth the hassle until Sony catches up with Bose with such things. I'm still deciding whether to return the headphones or not. I do like the sound!!! It's better than Bose

 just turn off the screen. The Google assistant app messes things up a bit too as it adds another bluetooth device. I got it going but then I wanted to watch football on the iPad so switched off bluetooth and things were messed up when I tried to use a second time.  I'm still deciding whether to return the headphones or not. I do like the sound!!! It's better than Bose. Perhaps a firmware adjustment from Sony will help. The app is "meh" Maybe I should wait for a WH-1500M4 or something ;)

I’ve no idea why they think we want some of the features, just give us the best possible sound quality, who cares about crap like sound stage positioning and fake reverb, etc.  I have the Bose qc35s for noise cancelling and travel cans, and have never loved them
