The nicest knife i own! I told her about my small knife collection and why i EDC a knife. Then showed her different knifes on bladehq and that ive been wanting a spyderco para 3 and she had no idea what i was talking about. But she knocked the ball out of the park with this bad boy! She was honest after we opened our gifts and told me she was sorry and forgot what knife i wanted and picked a coolest looking one. I told her she did awesome and i love it to bits!

My gf won xmas this year, gifted me a Benchmade Bugout!

I wasn't impressed.  I thought the handle was way too light compared to the weight of the blade. It's a thick blade. They should have narrowed it down to lighten it for this version to help with balancing the handle

  Overall returned because I didn't like the heavy thick blade on an ultra light plastic handle.

Knife balance doesn't seem right.

Holding it open feels great in the hand as far as comfort and love how light it is. Don’t really get why the release is on the spine of the knife instead of where they traditionally are on most folders, makes it much harder to close one handed. Grip feels slick and flimsy guess that’s the price you pay to lighten it over a G10 grip. Feels cheap for the price

Trying to decide between 3 knives, any suggestions appreciated.

Doesn’t work well for left handed individual

 No knife person I know will recommend a standard Delica in VG-10 but the variants with better steels are generally a decent value. The Manix 2 is, IMO, one of the best all around knives out there and one of the best values from Spyderco. The Para 3 LW and Chaparral LW are great deals too. One of the nice things about Spyderco knives is that the variants of designs with upgraded steels are generally not that much more than the standard version

I’ve tried to like Spyderco but I simply can’t. I know this brand has a lot of fans and they sell like hot cake. But every time I’ve handled one I’ve been like ‘meh’. I also find them a tad overpriced for what they offer. You can get similar steel and Handel materials for far better prices on other brands. I have owned two Spydies and have quickly returned or sold them.

What is the hype with Spyderco?

  Being somewhat new to Spyderco, I didn't realize there were two flavors of FRN handles. I decided to purchase this knife based on my extremely positive impressions of two other knives I own: a blurple Para 3 with a G-10 handle and a Delica 4 with an FRN handle. The Delica 4 has steel liners, and it feels more natural to hold. On the other hand, the G-10 handle on my other Para 3 is a bit blocky and doesn't slip in and out of my pocket as easily as the FRN, but I do like its heft

  The liner-less Para 3 FRN handle lacks weight, which makes it seem a bit plasticky and cheap, but that's a very real deception. I think most people tend to falsely equate heft with quality. Upon close examination, the FRN is very well made and functions extremely well. It feels good in hand in terms of size, and all the mechanics on the knife work great

Some of Spyerco's FRN knives have steel liners while others do not. This one does not have any liners. What that translates to is a very lightweight knife, to the point that it feels a bit unbalanced. I prefer a little heft to my knives

Lightweight and no steel liners in the handle

 This isn’t that bad but I think BD1 should be a little better with some work. That being said I can get this knife far sharper than factory in 5 min w a worksharp precision angle sharpener and a leather strop so no worries. My second issue is that the finish scuffs up fairly easily.the black DLC blades scratch really easy but this stainless look also took wear from rubbing on my keys and sharpening sticks camping

 I have a ZT0456 in stainless and I used it to chop wood. The lock failed on me but after a dip in the sink and simple washing the blade was spotless. To be fair the zt is 20CV vs the spydercos BD1. Overall great value for the money

 The blade did come with perfect bevels but after a weekend of hard use camping it needed to be stroped. After a month of normal use it again needed to be touched up. This isn’t that bad but I think BD1 should be a little better with some work.
