Technics SL-BD22

This thing has done very, very well over the last couple of weeks. Actually flawlessly, I haven't had any issues with it whatsoever once I reassembled...

Moving over to the record, turns on and a nice smooth drop and also to this turntable has been completely serviced.

Here’s the thing, I’ve been using a mid-90s Belt-driven Technics SL-BD22 for like 6 years. For a turntable that cost me $80, it was better than passable. I had friends complimenting on how they thought it actually sounded really good.

I started out with a used Technics SL BD22 turntable I purchased at an estate sale for $80. I had friends with cheap Crossley suitcase tables and thought maybe I’d get something like that myself but a buddy who’d been collecting longer advised against that and told me how I could get a used Technics, Fluance or Sony that would sound better and cost the same or less. I’m glad I took his advice. The sound quality from that 25 year-old “entry-level” Technics blew away any cheap suitcase players I’d listened to.

The SL-BD22 is a "p" mount turntable with a fixed tonearm weight and anti-skate. There are a lot fewer choices for cartridges and stylus. It would not be an expensive turntable, but it will have auto return.
