yes my tp link $400 router went poof after only 2 yrs, needless to say i am not pleased and wont buy that shit.

Right now running a Netgear R7000 running DD-WRT. Ive been experiencing a lot of issues lately and have to reboot often.  This happened to my last router a few years back as well.

Im guessing this is pretty outdated as well - so might as well upgrade to something better. I'm not so sure I need DDWRT anymore, since the majority of the time im not home, im connected to all sorts of wifi (and use a vpn), so I guess I really dont care if I have it anymore.

Budget is around 200 - range has been fine on this, but wouldnt mind a little boost. I know new wifi standards have been released since then, so an update would be nice.

I do a lot of gaming (mostly LAN, but I have friends come over and use wifi), so any extra GAMING features i guess would be cool, but im assuming they all probably offer the same thing, just some get their prices jacked up for GAMING purposes.

Do all routers eventually just start to die (nighthawk R7000)? (Need a replacement)

 My desktop PC hardwired gets 900-950mbs with the AX6000 and the AX11000 max on the same PC at 700mbs. Go Figure!  I hate that I had to write such a review but I was honestly thinking and hoping I was getting a semi-superior routing product only to be let down. TP-Link really need to revisit this product and see wat's wrong with these issues. I may just stay with the AX6000, however, I do like Tri-Band type routers

 I have four 2.4ghz cams at home that the AX6000 did not have 1 issue running them and other gadgets, however, this AX11000 has had repeated intermittent drop outs after trying all possible settings to fix. Support Chat was trying to help on this issue, but for the experience I have had for many years with routers and the last 2 I used, I felt this is a wasted issue of time trying to solve a problem that should not exits.  In my case, the AX6000 outperformed the AX11000 in connection speeds, frequency consistency, gigabyte hardwire port speed constancy and overall wireless connectivity

I use a lot of smart-home devices and just moved into an on-campus apartment at my college. Wanting to make a private network for my estimated 25 plugs and bulbs. What router is best?

We were do excited to use this as our old router was outdated. It was recommended to us by a family member. We got it and started getting everything hooked up to it and things started to slowly disconnect themselves. we tried using the "smart connect" feature thinking maybe that would help

 it made it worse. we then had to go back and start reconnecting everything! i have had things auto disconnect from both the 2.4 and the 5G lines. The parental control option is a joke as well, we set up the timer to shut off their internet so the kids could not sneak back on after a certain time and they end up having to retype the password back in the on the devices it shuts the internet off on

Now with the new 1.2TB data cap it looks like it costs $14/m for unlimited data if you rent a modem from Comcast...but $30/month if you use your own. Does anyone know why there's such a big discrepancy in price?  Historically it costs MORE to rent a modem than to bring your own but now it suddenly flops...big time.

It costs more for unlimited data and a 3rd party modem than to rent an xfinity modem?

 System logs have stopped recording 2 days ago, so I have no way of knowing what the router is doing.

However...  It is now Monday and a couple of times devices can not re-establish their wifi session (says logged in, but no traffic)

  Very easy to set up and customize. It downloaded the latest firmware without issue.  Great coverage across our 3100 sq ft house, and most of our backyard (1/4 acre lot).
