Ubiquiti UniFi Dream Machine

So my final thoughts on the UDM, I think it's a great device for the home use.

So anyway after a bit of research I thought I would go with a Ubiquiti Dream Machine (you know the small one for home use with the integrated AP, not the rack mounted ones) and one FlexHD AP. I was thinking I would start off with just the FlexHD simply to replace the integrated AP in my isp's router and leave it to do just routing and ya know all the other stuff. Is this even possible?

I’ve had a Unifi Dream Machine for maybe a year, probably longer. It was expensive and seemed like a good device to pair with my existing AP AC Lite, and it was good.

Back when I set things up I tried an Edgerouter Lite but it was too much for me. The Unifi USG is probably EOL now and the Unifi Dream Machine is $$. Im no expert, I know just enough to be dangerous so would prefer something with a GUI and more straightforward setup.

I recommend the UniFi Dream Machine. I know several people that own the base dream and they've never had issues with it. Low latency and very reliable wireless connection. The best part is you are able to attach APs to it and adopt and they'll work as configured.

If you’re up for some more advanced configuration, the Ubiquiti Dream Machine plus any additional UniFi APs you might need is by far my biggest recommendation. If you’re looking for something easier to setup out of the box and maintain with more simple controls, I would recommend either a Ubiquiti AmpliFi Alien, Netgear Orbi, or Eero Pro mesh system. They should all be very easy to setup, maintain, and most importantly, expand by adding additional mesh nodes as needed. Ubiquiti is the closest I’ve found to Apple (it was founded by an ex Apple employee) in terms of quality of hardware and user experience; however, the customer support is nothing like Apple’s, and they are semi-notorious for rolling out buggy software on occasion, so it’s generally recommended to hold off on performing software updates until you’ve been able to vet them through others’ experiences online.
