The R8 is an all new platform with unsurpassed range and sensitivity. It's Dual Antenna allows the R8 to detect threats from all four directions, with voice alerts for the direction of the threat. It even shows the band and signal strength for each. Perfect just got better!

The Uniden R8 is an upgraded version of a previous iteration with some pretty significant improvements, including Bluetooth. It is highly customizable, making it an excellent option for enthusiasts who are specific about how they like their detectors set up. When programmed properly for your driving location, the R8 offers you complete control over the sensitivity of your device, significantly improving false alert filtering. The new bubble lens improves its range and accuracy, and the alert response time is also very fast, ensuring little to no lag time between when a signal is picked up and when you are alerted of its presence. The R8 can also detect newer Gatso speed cameras. The R8s predecessor has the mute and mark buttons on the side of the device, which can be difficult to reach while driving, but Uniden placed them on the face of the R8, which is a huge improvement. The MRCD detection is another area where this detector has been significantly improved. 
Bluetooth will be a helpful feature, but Uniden had not yet released its app when we tested, so we can't comment on this yet. The previous iteration of the R8 exhibited serious issues with auto lockouts, and this version still struggles, though not as badly. You can drive past the same grocery store or strip mall for months and continue experiencing false alerts from the automatic doors. Fortunately, you can manually lock out stationary locations like this, but auto lockouts are a sought-after feature, so it's a bit of a bummer that Uniden is still struggling with it. The R8 is also not completely RDD &#40;radar detector detector&#41; immune, though this is a non-issue in most of the US, as radar detectors are perfectly legal. Lastly, the R8* is a top-notch device and therefore quite expensive. But it is a great daily driver for those who understand the radar threats in their area and enjoy adjusting the settings to optimize their device.

Detector works well enough, took off one star for not-so-good customer service

 And most importantly, the sensors on the back for the R8 has a little bulge. And it helps improve like sensitivity and performance and also help reduce false alerts. I went out with the boys yesterday, and I can attest to the fact that the performance on the R8 is a lot better for sure, because I wasn't getting a lot of like false alerts. And it was very, very sensitive, and it just kind of performed better

 You've got a couple of manuals here. And you've got a suction mount. It comes with like two suction mounts, but I prefer the other one that it comes with, which is currently in the car. We're going to get into it here

 It's got longer range for sure. And it was an overall quieter experience when I was driving last night. So I'm still going to be reviewing it a lot. And I'm going to update my thoughts on it

 Hey, what's up guys? So in this video, we're going to be taking a look at the new Uniden R8. Now, this has been my daily driver for the past four months or so. And overall, I've really been liking this detector, so much so that even though I'm now done with my beta testing and everything I need to do to get ready for this review here for you guys, I'm actually going to continue running the R8 as my go-to detector. And the R8, it's now available for pre-order

 I definitely would like to see further improvement here with the R8, especially with the auto lockouts. But that said, I really like the fact that I can get long range performance on Ka-band and on Ka-band. I like the fact that I've got very quick reactivity and responsiveness on both Ka-band and on Ka-band and I can do all that while also having my filters activated to get the false alert filtering. Plus it's not going to cut down range too much the way I see maybe with some other detectors

 And I'm willing to sacrifice the wifi benefits to get the improved radar detection capabilities. And so, yeah, that's my thoughts of the R8. That's my impressions of it. And that's now kind of the pros and cons, as well as why I'm switching to it as my daily driver
