Zoom H5 in 2022: a review

 Has anyone been able to playback through internal speaker and what did you do. Thank you.

 It's actually starting slower than my Blackmagic 6K. As for pros, it does have somewhat clean preamps and records a decent sound, has built-in two metal bars preventing the sensitivity knobs to be adjusted by accident. I really like that. It is very easy to use as most of the Zoom lineup recorders I've experienced so far

 It's much more podcast-oriented recorder or in studio because if I was in the field, I would probably want the maximum sample rate possible if I was doing any VFX work or anything. And it's quite slow to start. It's actually starting slower than my Blackmagic 6K.  So the answer to my initial question whether this is a professional, cheap professional-grade field recorder or something that is a bit of a relic that is still quite highly priced and is going to be pushed out, the thing answered itself. I don't think that's a viable product at the moment, given the Zoom F3 release with a 32-bit floating point recording and a much better build quality locking XLR points. And to be honest, this XY mic attachment dongle thing that they're trying to push, it's borderline gimmick for me, to be honest. I could do without one

I'm looking for a budget handheld recorder with comparatively quiet preamps to record ambience and nature sounds. Currently I'm using a Tascam DR-05x together with a pair of Clippy mics, but since the noise floor of the Tascam is very apparent, I was wondering if it would make sense to upgrade to something like a second hand Roland R-05, which is fairly cheap (just found one in good condition for around 100 EUR) and I heard people say that the preamps of the Rolands are very good and that the sound quality of the R-05 is close to the Sony M10.  Could you recommend the R-05 in that regard? I also read on [accusticnature.com](https://accusticnature.com) that the Olympus LS models 10, 11, 12, 14 offer quiet preamps. I'd love to hear some more opinions on that.

Budget hand-held recorder with quiet preamps?

  Did the research, went with the H5, and I'm pretty happy, especially considering it's considerably cheaper, offers far more capabilities and sounds at least as good or better as what it replaced.  Love the record level dials. Thank you for that Zoom. Operation is fairly straightforward

 I purchased the option MS (mid side) mic and was a bit disappointed in the quality of the recording when compared to my Shure VP-88, but then the Zoom mic costs almost exactly 1/10th the price, so...  The standard X/Y mic that comes with the recorder is very wind and pop sensitive

SUMMARY: Solid, affordable recording device that offers lots of features for reporters, audio producer, podcasters.  I needed to replace a Marantz 671 that fell off a motorcycle and on to a busy freeway while recording :( Let's just say it after being run over by about a dozen cars, it was well beyond repair.  Did the research, went with the H5, and I'm pretty happy, especially considering it's considerably cheaper, offers far more capabilities and sounds at least as good or better as what it replaced.  Love the record level dials

I love this portable recorder. I expected good recording sound from my external mics but was surprised by the sound from the included X/Y mic. The sound is so much better than I expected. Whether recording in a small theater or in a booth, the X/Y doesn't disappoint

HI! I just started looking in the topic, so forgive me if I ask something wrong or stupid. I would like to record natural sounds (forests, streams...) without spending a lot of money but having a reasonable quality. 
I first started with an old Zoom H1 that had a very close encounter with water and I would like to substitute it, adding maybe a omnidirectional microphone or a shotgun one. 
I also have a semi-shotgun takstar microphone that I am not so sure about.

What is a good cheap setup for someone who starts from zero? Cheap as in "the least amount of money that allows me to obtain a reasonably good result". Consider that I would want something reasonably light, because I am going to carry the gear while hiking.
