I am a fan of bass myself, and in combination with the elaborate complexity of percussive dimensions, the articulate and winding avenues of masterful bass rhythms are second to none. Still, the bass prominence is an obvious design choice for the XB43, and fortunately is executed well. The speaker manages not to sound thin overall, however, with some reasonable bass response and body to this track. At top volumes, the driver manages not to distort even when the enclosure vibrates powerfully.

I've reviewed three $100 Anker Soundcore portable Bluetooth speakers in the last year or so and they've all been quite good for that price. The Motion Plus is arguably the best-sounding compact Bluetooth for speaker for $100 while the Rave Neo, which appears to have been replaced by the Trance Go, works well for outdoor listening. Also worth mentioning: The Go 3 uses upgraded Bluetooth 5.1 while the Go 2 uses Bluetooth 4.1. Additionally, the Go 3's water resistance is IPX 67, not IPX 7

Love the speaker for what it is! Price is awesome and the sound quality is there! Bass is good for the size. My one problem is that the “JBL” lettering on the front came off and the stoppers on the bottom! Disappointed in the glue used to stick to the speakers fabric body and had to put tape over the letters. Other than that, it’s a perfect for travel and literally sticking in your pocket or attaching to your backpack. It’s worth it for a tight budget and you still want some quality sound!

Not really loud enough for outdoors. Bottom line: Meh! It's ok but nothing to write home about. I won't buy another one.

*** Custom EQ is The Key Feature *** The way our ears hear music is why home stereos have a "Loudness Compensation" button to cut mid-range. Pro musicians & sound men do the same thing with graphic equalizers and the resulting curve resembles a "U" or a "smiley-face". Being able to do this with the Soundcore phone app's 9-band EQ is a "game changer". It transforms the sound … but only IF you know how to set it ("mid-scoop" is not one of the standard Presets … it needs to be created as a custom setting) As a suggestion to Soundcore, they will get even more enthusiastic, happy customers and great reviews if "Mid-Scoop" is added as one of the four standard Presets in a future firmware update

It's interesting how the BICs are pretty close to the opposite of the JBLs, which are literal textbook examples of modern affordable loudspeaker design. If you read and worshipped every page of Toole's book and enlisted a major multinational to build a set of $300 speakers following those principles, the JBL 3-series is what you would create within that price constraint.
