In our review of the Ice Lake Spectre x360 13 and Kaby Lake-G Spectre x360 15 models, we discovered fluctuating clock rates, frame rates, and fan noise when under high loads for a bumpy gaming experience. This Comet Lake-U Spectre x360 15 exhibits similar characteristics as its clock rates, frame rates, and fan noise would fluctuate as well when gaming. Power users looking for more consistent performance out of their laptops may want to avoid this particular Spectre configuration as a result.

Furthermore, the Comet Lake-U Core i7-10510U and GeForce MX250 are just marginally better than the last generation Whiskey Lake-U Core i7-8565U and GeForce MX150 by the slimmest of margins in terms of raw performance. Combine this with the fact that the Comet Lake-U 2019 model shares the same keyboard, display, battery life, and chassis as the cheaper Whiskey Lake-U model and you have a system that is not worth the upgrade if you already own a Spectre. Outsiders considering the HP convertible would be better off with the Whiskey Lake-U model for its superior performance-per-dollar.

Verdict

Now trimmer and lighter, HP’s Spectre x360 15 is a top-of-the-line convertible 2-in-1 that excels in just about every area.

 They ran frequently in my usage, even for general web surfing, though the fan noise is nonintrusive against the usual household background noise. The area just above the keyboard gets hot under the extended stress of benchmark testing, while the rest of the chassis (including the underside) gets warm, but not uncomfortably so.

6GHz base clock, and up to a 5GHz turbo clock) is a 45-watt chip that would be at home in a gaming notebook. Meanwhile, its 4GB Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 Ti (Max-Q) graphics card provides enough oomph for 1080p gaming. (I&rsquo;ll address the practicality of using this PC for gaming later.)

 Since it requires they both be connected to a Wi-Fi network, it seems pretty duplicative of  existing cloud services.  Sarah Tew/CNET  I learned to type on a manual typewriter, and still pound the keys after all this time; when there's no travel, it really hurts my fingertips. So when I say  the keyboard has a nice amount of travel and feedback without inducing fatigue, there's your context. It's also backlit, which is really great since I sit in the dark

 It's faster than the 2016 model we tested -- but that one had a lower speed class of processor and graphics card. It incorporates a dual-core version of the i7, and if you look at the charts you can see where that lags behind the quad-core versions in the Razer Blade 14 and MacBook Pro. In practice, it's fine for the typical a-little-bit-of-everything type of use it's intended for.None so shiny You can find cheaper convertibles, but given the Spectre X360 15's 4K display, it's quite aggressively priced against models with similar configurations but only  QHD-resolution (or less) screens

 I also periodically receive notifications, "for full performance, use a higher-capacity charger". Who ships a charging cable with a new computer that underperforms?  Updated 7/21/2020: and now the battery is going..

really annoying. (Mouse works wonderfully) 2) the USB-C charging cable a) does not deliver the best performance and b) falls out all the time. This cable is not seated well, does not stay seated (even when on my lap and I'm not moving.

The system did not prove as well-optimized for video editing, unfortunately. I attempted to run our routine video test (which involves exporting a five-minute, 33-second 4K video) multiple times using hardware acceleration, and Adobe Premiere Pro consistently crashed during the export. Disabling the hardware acceleration in Premiere and relying solely on software got the job done, but it took an hour and 15 minutes. So if you’ll need to be working with Premiere Pro for video on the go, don’t buy this (at least until Adobe fixes that problem)

The thesis of this review is that I have almost no complaints. This is a superb computer, and it’s frankly bizarre that it’s only $800. Don’t buy last year’s Spectre. Buy this

Even more impressive are AMD’s integrated Radeon graphics, which can handle some gaming. I was able to run Overwatch at 1080p at an average of 70fps on Medium and 62fps on High — both were quite playable. (The keyboard did get uncomfortably hot, though). Those results are comparable to what you can expect from a lower-powered discrete GPU like a 10W GeForce MX150

Battery life is also good. With brightness around 200 nits, and with power and fans on HP’s recommended profile, I averaged about eight hours on a charge. That should get you through a workday and is longer than we got with the latest Spectre x360. (Of course, mileage will vary with more demanding tasks

The six-core 4500U is intended to compete with Intel’s U-series Core i5, but its performance is comparable to that of an i7. It flies. Throughout my everyday browsing and streaming, as well as my fairly heavy load of office work that includes around a dozen apps and Chrome tabs with occasional downloads, Zoom calls, editing photos, and copying files, everything was smooth with no sign of slowdown.

 The redesigned 2020 Envy x360 13 is noticeably smaller and more compact than last year's model while being much faster in the process.
