 The 960 uses what iRobot calls iadapt 2.0, which utilizes a camera and an advanced algorithm to navigate around your house and clean in straight efficient lines. This is opposed to cheaper robot vacuums, which bounce around more or less randomly to clean. We tested the navigation in two settings and in both cases it really exceeded expectations

 The reason is because of the dual brush system, that iRobot has patented all the other robots we've tested only have one brush, presumably because they can't infringe on I robots dual brush patent. So anyway, the Roomba 960 scored a 91 on this test. Second, only to the Roomba s9 plus and way ahead of every other robot vacuum brand of any price. The bottom line is that rumbas are the kings of carpets and the 960 is no exception

 We run the vacuums for five minutes and then weigh the amount of hair that gets stuck on the brush in two tests. The 960 got 20 % and 29 %, which is extremely. I was also interested to see that the hair didn't get caught in the axles, which is something that happens a lot with other rumbas, so the 960 is also really good if pet hair and human hair pickup is important to you. Another Pro for the Roomba 960 is navigation

 It was well above average in terms of coverage as well as navigation efficiency. It completed the small room test in 18 minutes, which is the fastest I've ever seen, a camera bot clean, including the i7 and the s9. There were similar results with the big room test. It had nearly perfect coverage, and it did so in 34 minutes, which was 1 minute faster than the Roomba s9 3

Roomba 960 Review - Vacuum Wars

One issue with methodical cleaners like the 960 is they often only pass over an area once. But you can set it to make two passes in a room, which I found picked up any stray debris it may have missed the first time. So while the 960 doesn't have quite the same suction power as the 980, it still does an excellent, thorough job of cleaning your floors. The 980's biggest cleaning draw is its Carpet Boost feature, which lets you turn up the suction on rugs and carpeting

I tested the Roomba 960 at my apartment and was impressed by how deftly it maneuvered around furniture and obstacles. Thanks to the camera, it didn't bang into table legs or bookshelves, and often, I would see it pause momentarily as it calculated where to move next. While the Bobsweep Bobi Pet  knocked over one of my dining room chairs and the Roomba 690 pushed a shopping bag across my hallway, the 960 left things as they were. So while you should still clear the floors of cables and liquids prior to cleaning, you don't have to bend over backwards decluttering

And if you don't care about Wi-Fi or any advanced features outside of simply cleaning, you should also take a look at the Eufy RoboVac 11. It'll get you a thorough, whisper-quiet clean for a fraction of the price, though that's about all it does.

Most robot vacuums opt for random cleaning patterns, which can be frustrating to watch as they ignore obvious dust bunnies in favor of cleaning the same spot over and over again. That's true of the 690, but the 960 is much more methodical in its approach.

Overall, it's a Roomba. Your going to get one of the best robots available. Roomba still cleans carpet the best, and does a good job for floors too, especially the newer ones. Not to mention they self empty, and have the option for no-go lines and everything

Not only is it a Roomba, but it might be the cheapest option overall. Not on sale it's $850, which is right inline with everything, and even cheaper than several. Specifically, cheaper than Samsung's new AI robot, and even cheaper than the Roborock with self emptying.

 Roomba still cleans carpet the best, and does a good job for floors too, especially the newer ones. Not to mention they self empty, and have the option for no-go lines and everything.

Hello, I'd like to replace my old, "dumb" Roomba with a better performing robot vacuum with some smart features.

What I would really like to have is:

- Mapping: I have a single floor apartment and would like to just map it all and let the robot go wild while I'm not home

- No-clean zones: I have a couple areas like the cat's food/water bowl where I'd like the robot not to go and accidentally spill over water.

- Obstacle detection feature: I'm mostly worried about stuff like cables and socks getting wrapped around the brushes and clogging the robot while I scheduled a cleaning and I'm not home, is there a robot that can detect these sort of "small" items and recognize it's not dirt?

- Select mopping/non-mopping areas: I got a couple of carpets I'd rather not have mopped :D

It'd also be nice to have an auto-empty system but not really necessary.

Also, last thing: It should be available in europe as I'm not from the US idk if that's a discriminant or you can pretty much find all models anywhere.

Looking for a Robot with the following characteristics, I'm a bit lost.

The self emptying is key.  I only have to replace the bag every 3 months instead of dumping the vacuumed junk into the garbage.

I posted a similar question last week, but it turned out even I didn't know what I needed. Now I'm pretty clear on it, so hopefully it can be narrowed down. Here's the context and conditions: 

\* no carpets  
\* 1300 sq ft (120m2)  
\* lots of angles and odd-placed walls so need something that can map out accurately  
\* Must have ability to define no-go zones and scheduling or ability to start it from the app when needed  
\* No pets (for now). Toddler that treats the entire floor as his dining table. Lots of breadcrumbs, mostly, occasionally fruit  
\* Auto empty is a MUST  
\* Budget: About 600 euros or 700 USD  
\* I want a great robot vacuum, **NOT** *a vacuum and mop combo*. **NO** mopping required (otherwise I would've gone with the Roborock S6 Maxv or S7).

Robot vacuum suggestion (now that I have a better idea of what I need)

  I go over all the online tips, like cleaning the sensors with rubbing alcohol, but it only helps moderately.

I google the issue, and all over various websites and reddit are other people commenting that have the exact same problem.  Surely iRomba must must be aware of the issue, so why can't they work on improving the design?

  Literally no tweaks done to improve the design.  Guess what starts happening?  A couple months in and the charge port starts getting finicky again.  I go over all the online tips, like cleaning the sensors with rubbing alcohol, but it only helps moderately.

 Well lately I will dump the pin and put it back and it still says it’s Full. So I ended up taking the bin out spraying it with canned air or wiping it with a wet paper towel to get the crusty stuff, changing the filter cleaning the contacts on the bin including the filter metal bar, the contacts on the roomba itself, and the gold plate under the brushes.

I bought my Roomba i7+ 2 years ago. A few months back she started giving me an error 16.

 For the exorbitant price I paid for the iRobot, I would expect it to exceed the cleaning performance of my other lower priced robot vacuums. I did not expect it to get stuck constantly, to have as many errors and stoppages, nor did I expect it to go offline as much as it does. I did a lot of research. All the claims were that it had superior cleaning capability

 I have more problems with the iRobot getting stuck and having errors, then with my other robot vacuums. This brand was hyped to be a superior cleaning machine over other brands. That is not the case! I overpaid for a robot vacuum that doesn't work any better than my other robot vacuums. It does not exceed them by a long shot

This is a good robot vacuum, but overpriced. I have two pets a dog and a cat, and I dog sit other pups on the regular. I hate animal hair all over my floors and before I had robot vacuums I would vacuum twice a day. To make life easy, I have three robot vacuums

 I don't have to remember to empty the vacuum after every run. My other robot vacuums must be manually emptied. If I forget to empty the other vacuums they don't clean as well, and when I finally do empty them they're so packed full that the debris falls out when removing the dustbin which causes a mess. Bottom line: is this a good robot vacuum? Yes

Roomba Select. No Brainer for me.

 After the first segment (battery depleted) it has at least returned the base to the correct location. I still haven't gotten a response from my emails to customer support that started on 12/5/2020. I've had to add some physical barriers in front of several pieces of furniture and a treadmill to keep the roomba from getting underneath because it gets stuck about half of the time (those old college text books finally came in handy for something. I've also used a baseball bat and the old extension tubes for my central vac that I'm hoping I won't need again

Didn't work (initially) in my large house.  Replacement worked.
