It's an impressive performer, delivering 2,342 lines per picture height at f/2.8 and virually no distortion. Edges are nearly as sharp as the center, and sharpness is even from f/2.8 through f/5

The aperture is a 7-blade design, with rounded blades, so out-of-focus highlights will be fairly circular when the lens is stopped down. Close focus is limited to 2.6 feet, which you may find limiting if you're used to working with wider angle lenses that focus closer. Two reasons why I didn't give it 5 stars: 1) the internal AF motor moves around and makes the lens feels like something is broken internally (it's just the design). 2) I'm not a fan of the "focus by wire" but it seems to work well. The 2/3 stop advantage is significant for still and video while the aperture ring is very helpful for use in video. The aperture ring is also particularly helpful in still photography when using this lens with an adapter on m4/3 and NEX bodies as it allows the use of precise, easily set and repeatable aperture settings. I already knew from other reviews about the clunking sound when it's not powered up, but there's another annoying noise it makes when it is powered up. The stepper for the aperture diaphragm chatters loudly as it opens and closes rapidly whenever light is entering the lens until you hold down the shutter button. The lens focuses quickly and accurately, but manual focus seems a little less responsive than my Olympus lenses. All in all, it's still a great value in a prime lens of that focal length, and I can put up with a few quirks as long as the picture quality is good

I do have to crop at times to get rid of the cluttered background but with the D600 camera, I have enough megapixel details to crop my pictures when needed. This is obviously a monster lens so I avoid taking it for street photos even though I've had some nice pictures and experiences on the street but it's so big..

8 first and later purchasing this lens (85mm f/1.8). Now, I travel with my two cameras with the 35mm and 85 mm most of the time since most of my photo opportunities are inside. With the wider aperatures, I am able to take photos without flash

I am used to using a DSLR with a 75mm lens but with this lens at 120mm I am farther away from my subject than I would like to be. However, I can accept this since the sharpness is so good. For the price paid, this lens is very hard to beat.
