3.) Decent battery life (8+ hours) would be nice, but not a big deal as it'll be plugged in most of the time. 

4.) If recommending a 2in1, would prefer something that comes with a pen/has pen storage (like Lenovo yoga C940 - not sure if that's a decent option or not). I've been a Galaxy Note user since the Note3 & love the pen, but got so frustrated with the touch screen on my current Dell laptop that I had to turn the driver off!  Basically saying I'm open to a 2in1 if everything else makes it an ideal fit, but perfectly happy without a touchscreen, too :)

Super confused about the CPU - from my research, it looks like 11th gen core i7 or Ryzen 5 or 7-4xxx would be my best bets, but I keep reading mixed opinions regarding which CPU I should be looking for... is the 10th gen intel really that much worse for my needs? Need it to boot & run smoothly no matter what gets thrown at it. Will be running virtual machines (plural) with home lab setup in addition to possibly running some statistical software, definitely running video editing software of some sort, plus the usual office progs and multiple browser tabs open. 

A second screen (like Zenbook Duo or UltraSlim with 2nd screen in trackpad - do any other laptops offer this option?) would be helpful for watching lectures while following along in text, but not deal maker/breaker.

Has to be reliable enough to see me through the next couple of years of school (then hopefully working remotely), without becoming obsolete, blue screening, losing keys, etc., and HAS to be a strong multi tasker! A fast boot preferred & the ability to keep up with multiple programs and many chrome tabs is really a necessity. 

I'd appreciate it not running super hot, as it'll be in my lap 99% of the time. 

Also, would really like an SD/Micro SD slot, but can live without it.

Does Optane memory work for virtual machines?

Will be running virtual machines (plural) with home lab setup in addition to possibly running some statistical software, definitely running video editing software of some sort, plus the usual office progs and multiple browser tabs open. 

A second screen (like Zenbook Duo or UltraSlim with 2nd screen in trackpad - do any other laptops offer this option?) would be helpful for watching lectures while following along in text, but not deal maker/breaker.

Has to be reliable enough to see me through the next couple of years of school (then hopefully working remotely), without becoming obsolete, blue screening, losing keys, etc., and HAS to be a strong multi tasker! A fast boot preferred &amp; the ability to keep up with multiple programs and many chrome tabs is really a necessity. 

I&#39;d appreciate it not running super hot, as it&#39;ll be in my lap 99% of the time. 

Also, would really like an SD/Micro SD slot, but can live without it. 

a few questions...

Does Optane memory work for virtual machines? 

Is the Zenbook line well built, reliable &amp; if purchased, durable enough to last through 3-4 years of very heavy use, given everything mentioned above? 

Am I asking for way too much for my budget?!?

Although I will be okay with having a good laptop that I’m comfortable with and taking notes in a notebook, a 2 in 1 sounds quite convenient since I’m majoring in Biochemistry (labeling, drawing molecular structures, high volume of notes) and if it covers all other parameters well, I’d like to consider that. I’d prioritize battery life and performance over build quality.
How important is weight and thinness to you? Should be easy to carry and light

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?  A good keyboard and a touch screen in desirable (for a 2 in 1 suggestion) but if you’re suggesting a normal laptop, I just need a good keyboard and good performance so it can handle software related to my major. 
Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.  I’m quite comfortable with Apple as a system but if a windows laptop is a better fit I don’t mind getting used to it.
