Its metal body construction, backlit keyboard, beautiful screen, and long battery life make it a very attractive alternative to yet another plastic laptop. Although ostensibly an update of the Chromebook Flip($858.01 at Amazon Canada), one of Asus's earlier convertible laptops, this iteration is all new, and an excellent evolution of the chromebook in general

 As a result, the system feels faster than other chromebooks. A trio of 1080p video streams ran smoothly while I used a half-dozen other tabs to view websites, check email, and stream music, and so on. A 4K video (displayed at 1080p) played alone only occasionally paused for buffering.

 Compared with other chromebooks, the Chromebook Flip has premium styling and construction, 4GB of memory, plenty of expandable storage, an attractive full HD screen, a 2-in-1 convertible form factor, and accidental damage protection&mdash;all for a bump of $100 to 200. It can give you the entire Internet, including desktop sites and plug-ins that don't work or display too small on your Android or iOS phone or tablet.  It's rare to use a Chrome OS laptop that genuinely feels fast, well-built, and worth more than the $300 asking price that most Chromebooks cost. But if all those companies are going to succeed at this, it can't be rare anymore, it has to be standard.

The C302 does a better job at nailing most of the physical aspects of a good laptop than other devices you'll find in this price range. It's got a thin aluminum body (just over half an inch thick), and weighs just over two and a half pounds.

Google, for its part, is working feverishly to make the Android app on Chrome OS viable (they're not ready yet). Asus, for its part, produced the excellent machine I'm reviewing right now.  This is now my fastest-charging device. I’m surprised this isn’t mentioned more. It charges insanely fast. - JSTorrent works nicely for any torrenting needs

 I watched a 2 hour movie on a flight yesterday (no wifi, no bluetooth, screen 80% bright), and those 2 hours took the C302 down to about 30% battery (from full). The stock video player misses audio on a lot of movies, and using the VLC app (android) is super buggy (frequently freezes and shuts down). It's increasingly disappointing to see the much-hyped Play Access is still nonexistent. I'm still loving the *idea* of what the C302 is supposed to be, but the execution is feeling more and more of a miss

 This is a nice perk to save battery life and for folks who like to read//browse late at night in bed and don’t want the backlighting on. - Chrome OS 56 is right around the corner. This brings you that stable Android support, and it looks like this also will improve battery life and overall performance even further. - You won’t use tablet mode and ‘tent’ mode much

 It's a real treat.  --- Screen --- The C302 uses a 1080p IPS touchscreen. By default, the display is scaled to a lower resolution, which is nice because ChromeOS scaled to 1080p makes everything much too small. The display is extremely glossy and reflective, so keep that in mind if you want to use this laptop outdoors or inside buildings with lots of windows or overhead lighting

  --- Battery Life --- Sometimes, I get up to 11 hours of battery on the C302. 'Nuff said!  --- Performance --- The Core M3 allows this system to get fast and to stay quiet. Sometimes, under heavy loads, the bottom of the C302 gets warm to the touch, but not to the point of pain. All the while, it provides one of the fastest web browsing experiences that I've ever experienced
