 If you are even thinking about gaming, the answer is no.  Seeing as this laptop has such limited uses with the horrible screen and speakers, I cannot give this laptop a better review that 3 stars. It's only purpose is to view webpages and basic coffee-shop work.

Decent at viewing webpages/office, not good for much else.

I adquired this laptop at a great price during a black friday discount. I must admit that I read some negative comments about it, but yet I decided to make the move. My first impression was being in front of a high end laptop design, everything looks solid, in terms of construction this laptop is a beauty. Performance is really great, I bought an additional ram stick so I made the upgrade from 4gb to 12gb, and everything is smooth,  windows takes literally few seconds to start and  the fingerprint sensor is a great plus, even though it's not 100% precise, I still use it a lot

 My first impression was being in front of a high end laptop design, everything looks solid, in terms of construction this laptop is a beauty. Performance is really great, I bought an additional ram stick so I made the upgrade from 4gb to 12gb, and everything is smooth,  windows takes literally few seconds to start and  the fingerprint sensor is a great plus, even though it's not 100% precise, I still use it a lot. Windows S mode wasnt really a problem since you can easily switch to normal mode, don't know why people complain so much about this.

I want something with a glossy 15 or 16" screen, a number pad, and that can do some gaming.  But buying a "gaming" laptop isn't going to fly, so it sort of has to fly under the radar...most likely an APU.  Budget is $1,000 or so..

Looking for laptop for my sisters birthday and for University

Decent, but not perfect

* Asus Vivobook 15 (R5 5500U) - the battery is smaller than the Aspire at 42Wh, but maybe that would be offset by better power efficiency of the 5500U, however its port selection is not that great and I've heard that the quality of vivobooks is not that great. * Lenovo Thinkbook 15 Gen 2 (R5 4500U) - it has the weakest CPU in this list, but paired with a 45Wh battery I feel like the battery life should be decent.
