 Hey everyone, I'm Crono from The Headphone Show and today with me I have the LCD2C, which is a planar magnetic headphone available on Odyssey's online store for $799. And minus the omission of Odyssey's phaser waveguide technology, it's using very similar, if not identical, driver materials and designs as the current standard LCD2. Just like the standard LCD2, the LCD2C clocks in at an impedance of 70 ohms and a sensitivity level of 101 dB per milliwatt. In practice I found that these were very easy to drive, but they did open up a bit more nicely when powered by a discrete headphone amp

 The LCD2C uses the traditional Odyssey LCD series design, which feels very premium and well put together. So just like the LCD2 they have a prominent peak at 6K that introduces some pretty noticeable sibilance as well as some glare in the lower treble and it also sounded to me as though the LCD2C was very dipped at 8K so brass instruments and cymbals in particular sound like they were missing a lot of their overtones in that region. So for EQ in the treble region I had a more aggressive cut at 6K on the LCD2C than I did on the LCD2 as I feel like that peak is a bit more present on this headphone and additionally I added a boost at 8K to bring back some of those shrouded overtones. Now with these adjustments in place I feel like the treble cleans up quite a bit with most of that sibilance and glare gone so while there really isn't anything bothering me in terms of frequency response in the treble region after EQ it's in treble quality where I feel like the LCD2C seriously falters it's just lacking the cleanliness the extension and refinement in the highs that really impressed me on the standard LCD2 and other headphones like the Ananda, Aeon 2 and LCDGX all sounded to me like they deliver a much cleaner image in the highs than the LCD2C and they make it sound fairly grainy by comparison

 Layering though is very good I feel like the LCD2C does a great job at distinguishing all the different instrument and vocal lines that compromise the music that I listen to it was very easy to you know to pick apart all the different elements and the songs I've listened to so overall I really enjoy the way Percent sounds and I think it has a good soundstage. For dynamics I feel like the LCD2C performs really well I always tend to associate full-size LCDs with great dynamics that enhance the emotion and the energy behind the music you know listening to things like kick drums really delivers a very good sense of punch and slam and generally sounds in the low end have a very good physical impact. The only thing I noticed when comparing these to the standard LCD2, LCDGX and Focal Clear is that they didn't seem to have as much top end attack but they still had excellent dynamics and they made for a very engaging listening experience. So what are my final thoughts on the LCD2C? Well for starters I think that it can be a very enjoyable headphone after a cue it does acquire a very pleasant and nice tonality that at least I really enjoy but at the same time with the standard LCD2 being one of my favorite headphones I can't help but to feel slightly disappointed the LCD2C just doesn't have the same level of technical performance and finesse that the LCD2 the standard LCD2 brings to the table

Audeze LCD-2 Classic Review - Revisiting a classic Audeze Planar in 2020

**How the gear will be used** - Home and future work listening. I'm not hard on gear but I would like it to be durable. 

The headphones **must** fit and be comfortable. I don't know a lot/have a lot of experience with headphones so I'm flexible when it comes to open or closed back, over ear/on ear.

So the key here is size/fit. I have a big head. As an example to put it in perspective, I wear a size 8.5 for a baseball cap

What the LCD2 Classics achieve is a bridging of the traditional gap between audiophiles and casual music listeners. I have sampled the extravagant extremes of personal audio, such as Focal’s $4,000 Utopias, and there’s nothing I’m missing when stepping down in price to Audeze’s LCD2 Classics. More expensive headphones still have their own reasons to exist, and their own differentiating advantages, but those are slight and subtle. The upgrade that the LCD2 Classics mark over something like a pair of Beats cans is so massive as to be almost visible

 You’ll be loving that Audeze bass within moments. The only issue you might run into with the LCD2 Classics is that they’re open-backed, meaning your sound will escape outward, and you’ll hear external noise coming in. Not ideal for LANs. Even so, I’d describe them as semi-open, as they have a layer of felt under the exterior skeletal frame that provides a sliver of isolation

The original LCD-2s can be described as aggressively pleasant. They warmly embrace the idea that people enjoy listening to a little extra bass and a little less treble, and their tuning is designed to please and excite in equal measure. I write in the present tense because Audeze is still selling the LCD-2s to this day, nearly a decade of widespread popularity after their initial launch. It produces pristine, distortion-free sound, and it extends deep into the sub-bass region that’s problematic for more conventional dynamic driver headphones. The LCD2 Classic maintains all of these good attributes, and measurements from other reviewers have shown their spectacularly low harmonic distortion

They live up to their name

 Now I will say these are by far the single most comfortable Odyssey's that I've ever tried. I mean they're more comfortable than the L8s, they're more comfortable than any of the other LCDs I've tried. Odyssey did a pretty great job on comfort with these with the exception of the strap that stretches out too easy and the pads that, well, once worn in my ears can still touch the driver. I feel like my ears should never touch the driver

 Their strongest points are definitely soundstage, improved comfort over other Audizis, having a very laid back sound and having a very big sound. And with that, also having an excellent focus on the mid range. Now as far as amp pairing goes, these are definitely not power hungry. You're not going to be powering them off a phone, but I had no problem powering them off things like the JDS Labs Yeldak, which I did a review of a little while back

 I've been testing these since about February and it is now September the 10th. I really wanted to try and make sure I didn't miss anything in them, because I know a lot of people really care about this headphone and I can definitely comfortably say this is the best planar I've heard under a thousand dollars, but not the best headphone I've heard under a thousand dollars. Their strongest points are definitely soundstage, improved comfort over other Audizis, having a very laid back sound and having a very big sound. And with that, also having an excellent focus on the mid range

 Now also with that, they're not quite as dynamic as, ironically enough, dynamic headphones. So once again, with amps like Magni that have a little bit of compression, I didn't tend to notice too much of a difference in dynamic range between things like the Magni and the EL amp on these particular headphones. Another thing though is if you have a chair with a more wide back than this and you're leaning back, it actually, like the old Hi-Fi man, seems to change the sound a little bit when objects are in close proximity. So just leaning back up against a chair like this, having this pillow here, I can actually hear my music changing just a little bit as if it's being closed off

LCD-2C - The best Planar under $1000?

5 kHz were so bothering, that I had to listen to those headphones with EQ. And if you put EQ on them, they seemed to lose all what made them special, and sounded so plain that I preferred to go back to my LCD-2 in the end. 

 The frequency response was peaky and tiring after a while. I had grown tired of the HD 800 and never noticed any "special soundstage", they felt like there was a good sense of space between the music and you, but nothing crazy as live music. But the frequency response bothered me even more. The peaks around 6 and 10

 Since he was leaving for a trip, I decided to ask to test drive his Utopia until he came back and compare them to the Clear to see if the price increase was worth it. I kept the Utopia for about two weeks, but the only difference that I could find was that the treble was a little bit more pronounced in the Utopia, something I could replicate with EQ using my Clears. The measurements also supported what I heard. 

All of this took me to this day; I bought a HD 600 blindly. I did not know what to expect other that it was 'similar' to the HD 650. When they arrived and I put them on, I noticed they sounded like the Sonarworks compensation EQ for my Clear, which I hated for being too bright in my opinion. But I decided to give them time, and started to listen to music while doing other stuff around my computer

 However built is flimsy and headband mechanism is not solid.  I thought AKG K712 on Burson was better overall sounding.  I decided to sell this after 4 month of use. Today I have streamlined my gear and only retaining AKG K812 paired with Chord Mojo (LCD-2 is not driven well by Mojo) and AKG K3003i paired with Fiio X3 SG

 However without sparkling highs this thing did not win the contest. Though bit heavy it is not uncomfortable to wear and not fatiguing for long sessions. However built is flimsy and headband mechanism is not solid.  I thought AKG K712 on Burson was better overall sounding

 LCDX's are my pick. They are my Odyssey pick. Over the 3's which I've heard at many shows which are a little bit trebly. And the 2's which are just sort of like good for the time but I would take the 1060's over the 2's

 Get a used set of LCDX's. But now this happened and I'll tell you something. This is the best pair of headphones that Odyssey makes right now. I've heard the 4's

It sounds amazing but when the baby is sleeping I switch to the headphones. The Kantas are exceptionally clear but can be forward. The tubes do a great job keeping them mellow but very accurate even at low volumes.

Don't buy these headphones without a warranty. After 5 months one side have stop working. I sent them back to Audeze, they have a very good costumer service, prompt communication and they refund the shipping. Amazing sounding heahphones

 Other people also thought that my combinaison sounded amazing. I don't regret to spend a total of more or less $2k for that sound (HP + DAC + AMP included). Just remember, get a warranty. Mine LCD2

Get a warranty and enjoy the supreme sound

 Which I wish I could say the same about the headphones' comfort and weight. Imaging is a little bit less clear on these than on some Sennheisers I've heard, however, it is certainly within acceptable bounds and performs above average compared to most things that I have heard. Though I'm not sure if gaming on these is going to be a good experience or not especially considering, like I said, their comfort. But all in all, I would have loved to have heard these with something like Dynalo, especially with what it does to the highs being such a fast amp

 It's an extraordinarily big sound. Not necessarily an extraordinarily wide sound, but a very big sound. It sounds like it's coming from something much larger than these headphones. But I mean, these are still very large headphones, it just sounds like something more

 Speaking of these, they're actually very stiff and hold their adjustment quite well, but if you need them to move easier, you can adjust them through this little screw right here. And adjustable as they may be, the LCD 2.2 through the current LCDs I might say is not particularly comfortable due to its weight. This is an extraordinarily heavy headphone and that is honestly throughout this entire thing going to be my primary complaint
