 When it comes to the audio chain, none of the thing happens digital here. That sounds a little bit weird in the first place, but if you think about that, you have a good turntable, a good vinyl, and at the end you put a shitty USB output with a very cheap HDD conversion stage, you just kind of ruin it at the finish line, and we just don't want to do this. So we give you pure audio quality analog from the beginning to the end, and we have a knowledge in cartridge. That's our core competence, and we say that's what we need to bring to DJs as well

  As far as audio quality with normal records, I wasn't too impressed with the included cartridge. If you value sound quality and want to use this as a listening deck, you will definitely need to upgrade the cartridge.

 It features all of the same functionality and adjustability, and its removable head shell even can accept the same types of cartridges as the costlier Technics. Speaking of cartridges, the included cartridge from Audio Technica is solid. Actually, it's very surprising given the budget nature of this turntable. It's a very punchy sounding cartridge

 And in that video, I raved about that turntable, how much I loved its build quality, its sound quality, I just loved it. What I didn't love about it was its price tag and the fact that because it's a limited edition turntable, it was sold out within about a week of that video going live. So when I came across today's little gem, I just, I knew it was going to be our next turntable review because it bears more than a striking resemblance to some of Technics, well, more iconic design. So the question for me was, how good is it really, you know, it being a budget turntable, but more importantly, how good could it get? So that's the question we're going to answer today

 It has good low end weight and some dynamics, though I'm not going to say that it's lightening quick or the firmest down low. The mid-range is more full-bodied. And for those of you wondering how the Audio-Technica compares against, say, the 1500C from Technics, which we've reviewed on this channel, straight out of the box or from the factory, the 1500C is the better turntable. But if you upgrade the Audio-Technica using the 2M Black, not only are these two turntables very evenly priced, I'm going to argue that the Audio-Technica is going to give you more functionality, not to mention better performance

AS GOOD AS TECHNICS!? Audio Technica AT-LP140XP RECORD PLAYER Review

Great quality, but......

 You saw it with the connections, but you have your on off here, like pretty like techniques. So you will have your start stop. You can listen to records with 33 RPM, 45 and 78, like that. You can play them with a pitch with minus plus 8, minus plus 16, and minus plus 24 for the pitch

 You will have audio cables with the little ground screw here. You will have two little feet for your dust cover. The center for 45 RPM records. And at the end, look it's cool because you will have this little ATXP3 cartridge

 Just hand it over to the kids to play, because, it's fraught with problems. Some of which I would have been willing to repair if it weren't for one major flaw that was irreparable. Even after lubricating the motor bearing, the 3 phase cogging noise from the motor was unbearable as it transferred through the platter right to the stylus. Yes, I could have sprayed rubberized coatings on my platter, dampen it with cork, or done other ridiculous things, but that annoying sound, the hum and lack of high frequencies, even with the removal of the USB amp, just made it untenable

First let me preface this by saying that I am coming at this review from an adult's perspective of nearly 60 years of living with various phonographs and turntables my entire life. Now, As a broadcast engineer, who has dealt with broadcast tables, home stereos of many ilks and various component systems down through the decades, I feel I can assert a word of authority on the subject. Prior to the LP140, I had AT's introductory LP120USB. As far as I'm concerned, the LP120 it doesn't even make a decent component TT

 Even after lubricating the motor bearing, the 3 phase cogging noise from the motor was unbearable as it transferred through the platter right to the stylus. Yes, I could have sprayed rubberized coatings on my platter, dampen it with cork, or done other ridiculous things, but that annoying sound, the hum and lack of high frequencies, even with the removal of the USB amp, just made it untenable. So, based on a few reviews on the LP140, I wanted to see if any of the old issues persisted in this newer model. AT has stepped up and remedied a few things

 First, the motor noise is finally gone, also, the high frequency response is greatly improved by having no USB amp onboard and the use of high-quality low capacity cables with about 100pF capacitance per foot solved a lot of the rolloff problems. Also, they have set the platter lower and modeled the LP140 after the Technics 1200 series by adopting a tone arm adjuster that's slightly recessed with slightly thinner platter. The whole thing allows the vinyl record to be addressed by the tone arm on a much more intimate plane without setting up so high. Consequently, the dust cover now has a lower profile and is slimmer looking

Better than the ATLP120, but still needs some attention

Ok table. I added a thick rubber mat, adjusted the tonearm lift and added a record weight. Sonically “OK”. Slightly muted compared to technics 1200

He has bought in the brand new Audio Technica turntable and we're just going to have a really quick little chat about it, he's going to pitch it to me mate, he's going to tell me where this is the best thing out in the turntable market right now, so yeah, tell me about it Joe. I've heard of sliced bread, and this is the best thing since, so everyone knows us for our M series headphones and our LP120, well the LP120 has now been replaced by this which is the LP140, really wonderful turntable, of course I would say that, I'm biased. I mean to be fair, first impressions of it, it looks really nice, it looks like something from the past, so yeah, it's kind of hard to break away from that design and plus us DJs are quite fickle aren't we, so we don't really like change too much, so it's kept in the standard format, really cool, high torque motor, the platter, if you don't mind I'll just pop this off, so unlike the 120 that's preceded, this one is actually dampened so we've got rubber dampening here and it helps the balance, also helps with isolation of rumble that you'd get from Laotown systems, so this is the ultimate Audio Technica DJ turntable

 It will be £379 which really creates its own market, you know, there was a turntable in that price range that has the facilities that this does. It's again, excuse the pun, it's punching above its weight really, you can't knock it. I really like the look of it actually, you know, I do like a silver turntable. Well, that's the trick there

 Shipping anytime now, unlike a lot of our previous turntables this is designed for your DJ, this will sit very well in a booth, the quality is unsurpassed, we've been making cartridges for 50 years, this is what we are really known for as a Japanese company and all that technology, all that knowledge has gone into creating the LP140 and the XP range of cartridges. Mate, just something which you did mention before as well, this is the first time from you guys that you can adjust the legs. That's right. Just remind me because you said about it, sitting in a booth, so I thought of it sitting wonky

 Wow. Which is really cool for creative types, this is turning the turntable almost like a media player because you've got that kind of facilities on there but of course the workflow is slightly different. An interesting feature that we haven't done on our previous DJ turntables is now to adjust the height of the toy arm you have a recession there so it just makes life a lot easier. Now to just adjust it, simple as that

Here’s the thing: I bought the AT-LP140 for a very specific reason. I wanted an affordable record player to play my limited collection of mono microgroove LP’s and 78’s. My primary turntable rig is pretty “high end”; Sota Saphire with DC drive, Audio Origami tonearm and Benz Micro Wood cartridge. But mono records (like the Beach Boys Pet Sounds) sounded pretty lifeless on my rig

 I had expected more engaging sound than this after reading articles from my favorite audio and music reviewers (RIP Art Dudley).  It seemed that I needed a true mono cartridge to get the most out of mono recordings, but my tonearm doesn’t allow for easy cartridge swaps. So I resurrected an old REK-O-Kut-turntable and bought a couple of Audio Technica mono carts - one for 78’s and one for microgroove mono’s (AT Mono3/LP & AT Mono3/SP). The Rek-O-Kut proved to be a PITA to keep running at a constant speed, and I was about to give up on the whole project when I found this turntable on line

 BUT, mono microgrooves with the AT Mono sound BETTER on the AT rig than the Sota with the Benz.  And, it turns out that 78’s can sound pretty good, if you’re willing to lower your expectations a bit. I am super pleased with this turntable. I’m thinking I might just try an AT-33PTG to see how good this thing is with stereo LP’s!

 My Sota rig is like fifteen times more expensive than the AT rig: using a Denon DL103 with ‘The Cap’ on the AT for stereo, stereo LP’s sounded like crap - dull and over simplified. Keep in mind that the Denon is a horrible match for the AT tonearm: it’s too heavy and low in compliance. BUT, mono microgrooves with the AT Mono sound BETTER on the AT rig than the Sota with the Benz.  And, it turns out that 78’s can sound pretty good, if you’re willing to lower your expectations a bit

Excellent for my needs...

 Luckily i got into it in early 2000's before the recent wave. Only owned it for a few days, however I can really tell for the build quality its very robust and durable. It doesn't seem to introduce unwanted "noise" at all in my setup. Running a nobsound tube amplifier with a set of Klispch's R-41M's speakers

 I was looking at the audio technica LP120XUSB however I couldn't get it in black, and I really didn't need the built in preamp or usb so I settled for this even though more expensive I figured it would be more robust since its DJ commercial quality...

. more of a guy into some good classic vinyl. Luckily i got into it in early 2000's before the recent wave. Only owned it for a few days, however I can really tell for the build quality its very robust and durable
