 You and 2 to 5 of your friends will play the crew of the Galactica, as well as some of the bigger players on the fleet and must do whatever you can to protect the civilian ships, keep the Galactica up and running and deal with. Whatever crises happen. To come our way, one every turn. In fact, if any one of our four big resources goes down to zero, we lose if the Cylons managed to board the Galactica and take it over

 So that's a round of Battlestar Galactica and a short one at that, and yet look at all the horrible things that have happened so far and the horrible state were in plus we've literally made no progress. Now not every round will be like this, but really it's not all that in common okay, so jumping eventually, as you play, you'll come across more and more jump symbols, each one pushing the tracker along until we get to here then one more after that pushes us To auto jump where we bring the tracker back to the start, all of the Cylon and civilian ships are cleared from the board and put back where they go. The Vipers go back to the reserves and the players in the Vipers go to the hangar deck and the fleet finally jumps away to a new destination, but which one, the Admiral, whoever that maybe draws two cards from the destination deck and picks which one to go To each one of these will have some sort of cost associated with it in the text here usually losing some fuel, as well as this symbol at the bottom, a planet with some number in it, one two three, this number represents the distance were traveling. So let's say we have these two cards, the Admiral picks

 So we add the values of all these skill cards and remember in this particular instance, purples and blues are positive, while yellows greens and reds are negative and it's a failure, which means not only do we lose one population, but the drum tracker goes back one space. All the progress we made so far was all for nothing get used to that. So now we move on to the bottom left hand corner, and we got a Raiders launch icon three Raiders launched from every may star on the board this. This is bad, oh and look, no jump; cymbal, fan-freaking-tastic, everyone, discards to ten and we're back to player one okay

 You cause structural damage, so it's easier to hurt later on and finally, my personal favorite score a critical hit which counts as having 2 damage tokens. They only need three total for them to be destroyed. These are your civilian ships. They'Ll occasionally appear on the board somewhere around the Galactica

 The instructions on the card must be followed. Sometimes the player is given a choice between a skill check and a dice roll.  Super Crisis Deck: When a cylon is revealed, he now draws from this deck instead of the normal Crisis deck. Super Crisis cards are very grave scenarios for the Colonial fleet

 You will achieve this objective through iterations of FTL jumps, passing skill checks, attacking enemy ships, and strategically moving certain characters to and from certain locations. You will meet this objective by covertly failing skill checks, attacking Colonial ships, and making the humans run out of resources

 You will rely heavily on the instruction manual at first because there are so many rules, multiple steps involved per turn, multiple card decks you have to build, and every playable character has unique skill sets and allowable actions. Here is my breakdown of this game so that people who haven't played can begin to understand the elements involved:  Human Objective: to find Earth before (a) the fleet is destroyed by the Cylons, and (b) running out of resources (food, fuel, morale, and population). You will achieve this objective through iterations of FTL jumps, passing skill checks, attacking enemy ships, and strategically moving certain characters to and from certain locations. You will lose and/or have to repair ships along along the way, and your resources will dwindle down with every hit from the cylons

 They are robots who look like human beings, we're going to try and secretly sabotage your missions and then once you figure out who they are, they have the they can then become non secret, and then they can just really try and screw up your missions of getting Back to earth, this can be a very difficult game. So when you first start the game, we're going to try and hit on the important stuff you're going to get one of these roll cards and the role cards are going to have a couple important things. First, what cards are gon na be able to draw? Because these cards are going to be what's going to help people deduce? Who is in fact the good or the bad guys in this game? Because if no one else gets say, red cards and a red card is played on a negative vote which doesn't make much sense, you right now then they'd be like okay put him in jail because there is a jail. But let's just get back to here

For many, games consist of 'Monopoly' or 'Risk' and that's about it.  And then one day, you learn about the 'real' games.  The games that take your youth from you... that make you realize there is so much more out there to experience.

For me, it was about 15 years ago with Settler's of Catan... then (immediately after) Cities and Knight.  Prior to this, a good game of cards or dominoes was a good night of gaming.

Settler's broke the floodgates... then we soon discovered Rails and Sails and Splendor, and BAM we were off.  We own about 100 games now, but without Settler's, I don't know if we'd be so hopelessly hooked.

What was the game that turned you into a board gamer?

 But that's the trick isn't it. You and some of your players (notice the use of the word "some") have to manage dwindling resources, survive crises, survive attacks by the Cylon fleet, and keep Galactica battle-worthy enough to make the needed series of jumps. And if that was all there is to the game, it'd be a neat little strategy game, but it wouldn't be nearly the puzzler and great game that it is.  At two times during the game, before games beginning, and at roughly the midpoint, each player draws a card from the Loyalty Deck

 Needless to say, the other players won't know for certain who that player is. And that's where the real fun of the game begins. Even if the Cylon is discovered, he can work to sabotage the humans. A creative Cylon player can cause absolute chaos for the humans, and much of the game is trying to figure out who is sabotaging the humans

 Depending on the number of players, the majority of the cards will tell the player he's not a Cylon, but there are cards that will tell 1-2 players that he is a Cylon, and possibly a Sympathizer. Their goals is to undermine the Humans. From within, if possible, from without, as necessary. And in a thousand ways

 Optionally moves to location on Galactica (or Colonial One, or, as a pilot, through the space around Galactica), 3. Activates a location or plays an action on a card (or, as a pilot in a Viper, moves again or fires at Cyclon raiders and basestars in order to protect the human fleet), 4. Draws and resolves a Crisis Card.  Most crisis cards depict a distressing event (with art and text from the television series), be it a food shortage or a lost scouting party, and offer a choice and/or a skill check to be made to minimize the damage to Galactica or her resources

 The humans attempt to survive the journey to Kobol (by making jumps that total at least eight units, plus one additional jump to end the game) whereas the Cylons do their best to sabatoge the human effort, either covertly (which involves a great deal of bluffing and secretly tipping the scales via secretly played cards) or overtly (by revealing themselves as Cylons and just hammering at the Galactica with all the tools a revealed Cylon has). Furthermore, halfway through the game another set of loyalty cards is dealt, such that there are a total of two Cyclon players (in a five player game; the number of Cylons and sympathizers varies based on the number of players). In this way, the game captures the feeling of paranoia that characterizes the source material.  With accusations flying about and choices constantly being made, BSG is a strong interactive game that really shines

Admittedly, it does run a little long (three to four hours for the first game and around half that once everyone knows how to play), but once the first few rounds have passed, the pace of the game really picks up, as do player involvement and suspicion. BSG is, without a doubt, the reviewer's favorite cooperative board game (compared to Shadows Over Camelot, Arkham Horror, Last Night on Earth, Pandemic, and A Touch of Evil, as well as faux-cooperative games such as Cutthroat Caverns) and, moreover, one of his favorite board games, period

Exceptional board game

 Why? Because depending on the human resource dials on the gameboard and where they are pointing at the mid-game point, there will be either 2 cylons vs 2 humans or 1 cylon vs 3 humans (for a 4 player game); 3 cylons vs 3 humans or 2 cylons vs 4 humans in a 6 player game. With half the players as cylons, the humans are severely outmatched, and with more humans they can walk all over the cylon player(s). This mechanic is negated in a 3 or 5 player game, in which there is a set number of cylon players by the mid-game point.  The best part of this game is definitely the deceptive nature of how players manipulate other players

  Basically this game presents a ticking clock for players. When the clock reaches zero, the choices they have made will culminate into victory or loss. But what you do, if you're human or cylon, from start to finish is almost always satisfying because most playthroughs are won or lost by the skin of your teeth, creating a enjoyably tense atmosphere. You must at least TRY this game, and you must BUY it if you're a fan of the show

Do you like fun? Then you will love this game

 If you are a sensitive person, you may not like this game because it has the potential to allow players to be ruthless.  ***POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT***  One player can sabotage the others. One player can find out that they are a Cylon and still help the humans, where on the other hand, one player could be helping the Cylons all along and turn out to be 100% human. Reading this sentence, you will realize how accurate this is from watching the show

 You may want to take a break between the practice round and restarting the game.  I play games with my wife and another married couple. What usually happens with longer board games is two people will get the game set up and refresh themselves on the rules (or learn them if it is the first time playing the game). While this takes place the other two will get dinner ready

I don't consider myself a hardcore gamer with either video or board games. I do enjoy casual gaming, but what sets me apart is that I would rather set up and play a four hour game than play a twenty to thirty minute Euro-Style card game.  That said, this game WILL take at least three or four hours to play once everyone is familiar with the rules and the characters and the board. I'll reiterate the familiar part

 One player can find out that they are a Cylon and still help the humans, where on the other hand, one player could be helping the Cylons all along and turn out to be 100% human.
