 I would say they're more detailed than the 700, which is probably not a surprise. That tends to be the case with open back versus closed backs from my experience, at least. A good point of comparison really should be the DT1990 Pro, and I think these have a better bass response than the 1990 Pro, or at least, I mean, subjectively better. They have a little bit more volume and a bit more extension, but that may be because I'm using the analytical pads on the 1990, not the balanced pads

 It's effectively a reboot of these two headphones. That's the way I'm going to call it. I think the 700 is probably more of a side grade in terms of sound quality to the 770, but a significant upgrade in terms of build. This one, I honestly need to spend a fair bit more time with these

 This has a much cleaner sort of low mids and bass area, which is good. In terms of the treble, they definitely have a much more air and extension than the 700 from what I can hear. Maybe that it has a bit more treble volume as well. Like I said, I need to do a fair bit more listening on this

 They are definitely brighter than the 700, but not to the point where I'm finding them fatiguing or annoyingly bright or harsh or anything like that or grainy. They have a good amount of detail in that treble, so that is good. I would say they're more detailed than the 700, which is probably not a surprise. Beyerdynamic DT 900 Pro X First Impressions

I've thrown every genre at it so far, and haven't found any weak points just yet. They are low impedance and it shows as with the HD560s I would be driving them around 50-60% volume on my DAC/AMP @ 300ohm (I can switch between 300 and 600ohm modes). The 900 Pro X is at about 30% to reach the same volume. They sound perceivably more clear in the high end and more impactful in the low end compared to my previous mains the HD560s

 As a result, their sound is well-balanced, with adequate warmth and boom. Vocals and lead instruments are also present but softened with rounded edges, while sibilants like hi-hats are bright but not piercing. Their passive soundstage is wide, spacious, and open, although they struggle to create a more out-of-head audio experience.

45 drivers, which helps them reach high volumes without impacting sound quality or adding distortion, whether you're using an audio interface or your smartphone. Beyerdynamic tweaked their tuning too, resulting in a somewhat less bright sound than what fans have come to expect. As a result, their sound is well-balanced, with adequate warmth and boom. Okay, so bear with me as I struggle my way through articulating what I'm hearing. I've never been very good at this part, I'm more of the DIY guy!. So, these definitely have that Beyer house sound that you'll be familiar with by now if you've any of their headphones in the past. There's a bit of treble spike, but it's not nearly as intrusive as it is with the 990s or 770s

Hi all! Check out my commentary on the Imgur pictures for my thoughts while taking these apart. For reference, I ordered these directly from Beyerdynamic, and paid for them in full, so this is my unbiased opinion of them. I paid $324 including tax and shipping. I'll be live updating this comment as I continue to listen and play around with the 900s.

I ordered the new DT 900 Pro X to see what the deal with these things was. They seem to be marketed as an in-between of the DT 990, and the DT 1990. I listened to them for about 3 minutes before deciding I wanted to see what the guts looked like. Here they are. 

I was absolutely fucking mindblown to see the solderless driver connection, I literally thought I broke them when I pulled the driver out, that's a headphone first! It should help quite a bit when replacing blown drivers, for anybody who doesn't know how to solder. 

I'll try to keep this thread updated with sound impressions as I have them. I have the T1.2 to directly compare to, but I've used just about every Beyerdynamic headphone at this point, so I can probably attempt to make some comparisons.

**BUILD QUALITY IMPRESSIONS**

The overall feel of the DT 900 Pro X is pretty solid. The cups are plastic, but a very premium feeling plastic. They matched the look of the DT 1990 pro pretty well, although the 1990 definitely has a more premium feel. They redesigned the yolk to have more of a curved shape and the headband is completely redesigned, and not something we've seen on any other Beyerdynamic to date. The sliders are *definitely* an improvement on the old 990 design, and have a better overall "click" feeling when adjusting the sliders. We'll see how they hold up over time, because the old slider design was notorious for failing over many years. This one inspires more confidence. 

The stock cables are just okay. They feel like the newer stock cables that are attached to the DT 770/880/990, but the obvious plus is that you can change the cable with any 3 pin mini XLR that you'd like. **HOWEVER**, I tried using one of my own handmade mini xlr cables that I had lying around, and it did not sit in properly whatsoever, and moved around a lot. When it moved around you can actually hear the music cutting in and out. This could be a serious issue. I've used this cable with several other mini xlr headphones (DT 1990, AKG K702, etc etc), and it's never had that problem. This makes me worry that many other custom 3 pin XLR cables will not fit as expected and have this same issue. More research needs to be done here. Although, the stock cables sit in just fine and do not move or crackle at all.  

The comfort of the headphones is pretty good as well. They have a different feeling on your head than any of the other Beyerdynamic headphone I've used (pretty much all of them lol), and this is because of the new pads and headband. The headband feels thinner on the top of your head than the old design. I could see this becoming a problem after several hours of use, because it's more of a focused pressure than the old headband. I don't think I'm going to like this more than the old design, and even after like 15 minutes of use it's causing some discomfort in the middle of my head. The pads are okay, but definitely quite a bit stiffer than the old ones, and don't have that luxurious velour feeling that the 880 and 990 pads have. They're still pretty comfortable and soft, but I'm noticing that my ears are touching the driver more than a pair of new 990s would. Again, it'll be interesting to see how these hold up over time.

**SOUND IMPRESSIONS**

Okay, so bear with me as I struggle my way through articulating what I'm hearing. I've never been very good at this part, I'm more of the DIY guy!

The T1 is much more subdued than either of the other 2, missing much of the high end detail, but what you get in exchange is the widest soundstage I've ever heard. I personally prefer the T1.2 out of these 3 because I'm a sucker for good soundstage. 

I feel like the DT 900 lives up to it's spot as the "in between" of the 990 and 1990. It has a better overall sound than the 990, but is lacking the premium feel of the 1990. Next time somebody sends me a pair of 1990 for modding, I'll certainly be doing a side by side, because I think they'll sound very similar.

I'll be attempting to mod these with a 4 pin mini xlr for balanced potential, stay tuned! Even though they're only 48 ohms, I know people will certainly want to try these out balanced.

Very much appreciate this. Interesting to see their approach with driver "soldering" this time around. I want to say the Amiron Wireless has a similar system that I very much appreciate but the DT900 attempt seems much more precarious. Kind of wish Beyer kept the Amiron style to have cross compatible systems just in case I ever needed to swap my Amiron drivers to a DT700 chassis but I'm cool with it.

I want to say I'm disappointed in the pad mounting system given I have an abundance of pads I like to try, but I suppose it has more utility to those who quickly want to replace an old pair. It also kind of looks like the mounting of DT1990/1770/Amirons fits the groove of the piece that hold the dampening in front of the driver. If that is the case, then no issues with the pads as that would allow for previous Beyer compatible pads to fit.

EDIT: Going off OP's description of the sliders, it sounds like they finally brought the DT1990/1770/Amirons system to the other models. This uses a ball bearing clip system that is much more robust than the old plastic clips. Nice to see if that is the case. I remember the T1.2's I used to have came with the same plastic clips that were on lower end Beyers and was confused given the price premium. Thankfully it was fairly easy to replace.

I tore apart the DT 900 Pro X so you don't have to!

This is a decent headphone. It is much easier to drive than its 250 ohm counterparts. It sounds good. But at this price I cannot recommend it when you can buy a dt770 pro and 990 pro together for the same price

 Really nothing to say here other than, to me these are the best, and for being around the $200 mark, they outperform all of the headphones mentioned above in regards to being the most versatile in both music AND gaming. **In conclusion:**.

They have great clarity, awesome mids and the out-of-the-box bass profile is good, but they do take EQ quite well. Surround technologies work extremely well on these and offer pinpoint accuracy in imaging without sound artificially inflated in scale. Really nothing to say here other than, to me these are the best, and for being around the $200 mark, they outperform all of the headphones mentioned above in regards to being the most versatile in both music AND gaming. **In conclusion:**

 They started sagging a little too much and weighing down on my ears. I decided to move to these. The sound quality is about the same, but I'm no audiophile. I just play video games

They sound great when they're working, however both included Mini XLR cables caused static/cutout when wiggled at all.. they were definitely secured as much as they could be. They are not nearly as comfortable as the DT770/DT990 in my opinion, then again I have a huge head
