The ONE LENS to rule them ALL | Canon EF 24-70mm F2.8 II USM

I‘m planning to upgrade my old 1100D and I want to get a RP as it fits my needs and budget. 

Currently I‘m using a EF 50mm f/1.8, a EF-S 18-55mm and a EF 70-300mm USM II lens. As EF-S glass doesn‘t really work on the R series I need to get a new „general purpose“ lens. 
Budget is tight though, so I don‘t want to spend more than €500.

Currently I‘m debating if the EF 24-70mm f/4 USM would be a great option for an RP? Does it work well, is the AF performance good? Or is this lens too old for such a new system? I could get it used for around €450.

Or would the RF 24-105mm f/4-7.1 be a better option, as it‘s native and new? Although I‘m not a fan of the variable max aperture. But other RF glass is just out of my price range. 

Any help is appreciated!

General purpose lens for EOS RP?

6 was almost identical to that of the Canon 24-105 lens also at 70mm and f/5.6. I would have expected the 24-70 lens to have had a better resolution.  All in all, I pass on the 24-70 lens for the reasons above

i am comparing this lens to the one with the identical specs from Nikon. The Canon lens has almost (but not quite) the same optical performance, but the manufacturing quality is worse. The Canon lens has a plastic feel with some mechanical "play" whereas the Nikon one feels solid.  I am now comparing this Canon lens to the Canon 24-105 L lens

Good optics but quality not up to L lens standards.

 We gave it a 10 out of 10 for optical quality and a 10 out of 10 for the quality of the results. Value. The only real dilemma with this lens is can you afford to pay for quality like this? If you're a working professional or an enthusiast who wants or needs nothing but the very best, then I think you should just face the music and do whatever it takes to get the 24-70 Mark II. That said, if you're not a working professional, just know that there are some very capable competitors out there, notably from Tamron

 Wow. A price point that was considerably higher than the original and highly regarded EF 24-70mm f2.8 L that it replaced. But did the quality improve enough to justify the nearly 40% price increase over the original? Well, we're going to spend the next 10 to 12 minutes to find out

 Now, a price difference like that has to raise some eyebrows and call into question the value of the 24-70 Mark II. But let there be no doubt, the Canon is absolutely a better lens, but is it $1,000 better than its nearest competitor? I'm not so sure, but ultimately, that decision lies with you. So for value, we gave the 24-70 a 7 out of 10. Overall, we gave it a 46

 This thing tips the scale at just under 2 pounds. In fact, it's 1 pound 15 ounces to be exact, which classifies the Mark II as a heavyweight. Now, in spite of having more glass elements, the Mark II is actually lighter than the original 24-70mm L lens, which came in just north of 2 pounds. Now, to my hand, this thing balances perfectly with Canon's full-frame line of DSLRs like the 6D that I have it mated to here

Which lenses should I get after the 50mm? I’m looking for a value wide angle and a telephoto lens

I purchased this product a little over a year ago for my small business. It is worth the investment! The picture quality is great and my pictures come out amazing! However, I just realized that this lens is supposed to comes with a lens hood. The 'Lens Hood EW-88C' was missing from the Canon box! So disappointed that I now have to pay extra for something that I already paid for. Great product, but missing items

 While it still displays some levels of chromatic aberration inherent to the zoom design, except Fresno lenses, and heavy vignetting and geometric distortions, these are all at the smallest values possible. What mattered the most is the razor-sharp contrast to enhance details under any light situation, and the visible clarity offered by the higher-end optics. This is the reason why they have been updating some classic designs, with air sphere not present on this Mark II, or super-spectra, making even higher contrast images. So overall, this is a massive update over the already legendary lens, that makes it easy to recommend for professionals looking for even better shots

I just rented one of these for a shoot, I was absolutely stunned with it. It was tack sharp, fast to focus and basically no CA to speak of. I was looking for a 24-70 and that was way beyond my budget but I think I want one now. 

Thing is, it's just incredibly expensive. It doesn't have IS either. I can't afford that yet but I'm looking at these used. I also want to try a Tamron 24-70, more affordable and it has IS too. Sigma is an option too. 

Anyone have one of these? Any thoughts? I could also get an older Canon 24-70 as well.

I do photojournalism and events so owning a good 24-70 is really important. I've just been renting lenses to use as mine has been in the shop the whole time. Rented a 24-70 F/4, a 24-105 II and the 24-70 2.8 II. This is my favorite so far but the F/4 was very nice. Might rent the Tamron too. But hoping to spend around a grand on this (hopefully less).

Thoughts on the Canon 24-70 II?

Wish it had stabilization.

 The quality of the bokeh is particularly nice on this lens. You can get brilliant pictures. Generally, the lens is certainly a lot better than the original 24-70mm f2.8L lens

 Some really good news though is that the lens has very nice quality bokeh. The wide aperture can give you quite an out-of-focus background, and those out-of-focus areas look lovely and smooth and non-distracting. That's a very good performance for a zoom lens. So what can we say overall? The lens gives you very snappy, punchy pictures that really jump out at you with fantastic sharpness in the middle of your images and good corners

8, the middle of the image is very sharp indeed, although you can get a little punchier contrast. The corners of the image are, again, a bit softer. Stop the lens down to f4 for a mild improvement in the corners, and noticeably more sharpness and contrast in the middle of the image. So overall, the lens puts in a solid enough performance on an APS-C camera, but I was hoping for a bit more sharpness in those corners

 I'll start by testing this lens on a full-frame camera, a 20 megapixel Canon 6D, with chromatic aberration and vignetting correction turned on. At 24mm with the aperture wide open at f2.8, image quality is stunning in the middle of the picture. Super sharp, with a lot more contrast than Canon's original 24-70mm L lens
