The 16-35mm F4 is a great lens, well worth the money. But its overkill on a 70D. I have one and I never put it on my 80D.

Unless you're bound and determined to go full frame in the future, I would actually look at the Canon 10-18mm EF-S. Great lens with IS that goes for about $200 on the used market. I have an 80D and an M50 and that lens cranks out great shots. I would put good money on it equalling the 17-40mm's optical quality on an APS-C sensor

As title says. I currently have a 70D and M50 and looking to upgrade my glass before I upgrade either of the bodies! 

The 17-40 is actually surprisingly cheap in my opinion with option out there for 350€. The 16-35 sits around 600€ so almost double the price. 

I'm wondering if the price vs quality is worth it for the 16-35. I mostly shoot landscape or astrophotography shots om a tripod with occasionally some other things. I could go for the cheaper option and use the saved money on another L lens. What would you say?

 Because 10-18mm is 16-29mm equivalent, which is wide enough. And it is light weight, has stabilization and a silent step motor, all desirable features for any video work.  But in practice I found this lens just too slow (in terms of aperture) for general vlogging purposes. Unless you want your face very deformed, you end up using it in the 14mm and above range, where the aperture drops to f/5

 So unless you are planning to vlog in full daylight only, I can not recommend this lens.  For photography it's not even worth considering, it is not a particularly sharp lens and the step motor offers no benefit in photography. In the same price range you can get an older model lens, with USM motor (or no motorized AF at all), but sharper glass and/or more aperture instead.  For a really cheap vlogging solution on Canon APS-C cameras, get the Canon 24mm f/2

  But in practice I found this lens just too slow (in terms of aperture) for general vlogging purposes. Unless you want your face very deformed, you end up using it in the 14mm and above range, where the aperture drops to f/5.6. Meaning all indoor footage turns out either extremely grainy or under exposed

I have the 7D2 and was considering a full frame body for wide angle shots and then Canon released this lens. 

Optically it’s fantastic. Focus speed is quick and spot on. However, this lens suffers from one HUGE drawback. 

I can’t imagine why Canon left this feature out on this lens. I would have GLADLY paid more for this feature.

  This 10-18mm lens is very light, just as light as the 18-55mm IS kit lens that comes with your Canon Rebel. The focus is absolutely silent.

 I'm really hoping that this is a QC issue, and sending it back for a check will correct this, but I doubt it. (If the flare issue improves [disappears] after a checkup by Canon, I will update this review.)  Since this lens is fairly cheap, I'll give it an extra star (4). 6x crop-sensor Canons. If you're not sure if your Canon camera can use EF-S lenses, you can quickly find the answer on Wikipedia.  I've used an Optics Pro 8mm (semi) fisheye for the past few years, and have never seen a single instance of 'comets' in any nighttime picture. BTW, the Optics Pro 8mm (also sold under a few other labels, such as ROKINON) is a FANTASTIC lens, about $80 cheaper than the Canon EF-S 10-18mm; this 8mm is highly recommended:Rokinon FE8M-C 8mm F3

NOT VERY HAPPY WITH THIS LENS, SADLY

1 that will (or should) work on Windows 10 to upgrade the T5i. That a company as large and sophisticated as Canon could miss this is beyond belief.  After going through the download procedure many times it failed to download the firmware. And, the download requires many steps to complete.  Now I have a 300 dollar lens that my camera will not work with.  The lens warning on the instruction sheet for the lens applies to the T5i only

WARNING! T5i Failure

 I just wish it were faster for indoor lighting shots.  I'd be willing to shell out an extra $25-$50 to get the same lens in at least an f/4, and $100 to get f/2.8. A great mark ii version of this lens would be to keep the 10-18mm zoom range, drop the IS, make it f/3

 At 10mm to 18mm its a perfect compliment to Canon's common 18-55mm kit lens that comes with a lot of cameras. With the STM motor its a fast and quiet focuser for the DSLRs that do video. It's a surprisingly larger lens  I do have one complaint about this lens: at f/4.5-f/5

 It's not going to set you back by a lot and you'll find yourself using it a lot.  It is plastic construction, so don't expect to treat/mis-treat it like an L series lens. At 10mm to 18mm its a perfect compliment to Canon's common 18-55mm kit lens that comes with a lot of cameras. With the STM motor its a fast and quiet focuser for the DSLRs that do video

6, it is not fast enough! I would LOVE to have this lens at f/4, or f/3.5 (like the 18-55mm kit lenses), or even better, f/3.2 or f/2.8 for wide open

Great wide angle lens, wish it had more aperture than f/4.5 for flash-less indoor shots

 My 10-22 produces much smoother images with noticeable less sharpening. This could be a deal breaker for some people but I prefer the ability to use IS and have my images sharp and in focus. I noticed that the front lens glass element does not sit flush with the zoom zoom/focus ring and body of the lens at 10mm. It will sit flush when the zoom ring is set to 14mm

 The game changer is the IS. In low light with the slightest shake using the 10-22 and the picture is out of focus. With the 10-18, there is a higher chance of images coming in focus with minor shaking or motion. Upon further inspection, the 10-18 produces sharper images, but I didnnotice some grain/noise overall when zoomed in

 USM is very quiet but after using the 10-18, STM is absolutely silent. I even put my ear up to the lens to try to hear any focusing and nothing. Video can be taken in Liveview using autofocus with no mechanical noise. Both lenses produce great image quality

I own the Canon 10-22 USM and love it, and I also had good experiences using the Canon STM lenses. So the combination of both wide angle and STM just makes sense. After first inspection, the lens is just slightly smaller than the 10-22 mm, made of solid durable plastic, and amazingly light. The only real major thing missing form the 10-18 is the distance scale and maybe the extra 4 mm of zoom from the more expensive 10-22

Must have UWA.

  You can easily fix vignetting, and a lot of the times, you crop out barrel distortion, so that isn't a big deal to me.  P.S, I am not going to try and act like I am some sort of nuts and bolts photography expert, but I do know a little about photography.   The Good : The lens is sharp, accurate, focus is quick, and silent. The Image stabilization works very well. I can't tell you how many stops, because I have never needed to use IS for still photos. I use the IS for video, and it seems to help keep down vibrations, and jarring

  Summary: For the price, this lens is a great addition to our EOS M, along with the adapter. It is MUCH cheaper than the 11-22 EFM that is made for the EOS M camera. I am very satisfied with my purchase. It slightly defeats the purpose of why I bought the EOS M in the first place, but it isn't that much more to lug along

I find this lens to be an excellent addition to the EOS M

.. I mentioned the ease of auto focus and that my preference is manual normally, but if one uses the manual focus it is super fast and easy because the auto focus ring is awesome!  I wish I found this Lens sooner! I mostly shoot wildlife and landscapes and I am a total amateur, but I really enjoy photography, and this lens REALLY creates an incredibly shallow bokeh. This can be a great feature when shooting portraits

 However, if metal versus plastic is very important to you, this might not be the lens for you.  If paper vs metal isn't critically important, you just might LOVE this lens. I know I do! Super fast focusing. Super quiet focusing

Great lens at a GREAT price!

THE CONS: As expected for the price, its build quality is much lower than other lenses sold by Canon (plastic mount ring, plastic barrel, screen printed logo, etc.) but as I mentioned above, this allows Canon to sell it for a reasonable price so that hobbyists and enthusiasts can dabble in ultra wide angle photography without breaking the bank so I've made my peace with it. As long as you take care of it, it should last well past its worth. Moving on, the maximum f/4

 It has a nice wide angle for getting some impressive scenery in it with the image staying crisp to the edge and minimal distortion for being a 10mm lens. Edges of objects have very little bend. I like that they
