Dell Inspiron 15 3000 (2020)

The Dell showed the least stamina&mdash;it outlasted numerous gaming laptops, but it may not get you through a full day of work or school without help from a wall outlet. On the other hand, it'll definitely last through a DVD movie or two.&nbsp;

The fastest laptops finish this exercise in about two minutes. These systems require a little more patience, but they get the job done.&nbsp;

After fully recharging the laptop, we set up the machine in power-save mode (as opposed to balanced or high-performance mode) where available and make a few other battery-conserving tweaks in preparation for our unplugged video rundown test. (We also turn Wi-Fi off, putting the laptop into airplane mode.) In this test, we loop a video&mdash;a locally stored 720p file of the Blender Foundation short film Tears of Steel&mdash;with screen brightness set at 50 percent and volume at 100 percent until the system quits.&nbsp;

It's a shame the Inspiron 17 3000 lacks a USB-C port, but otherwise this laptop does what it sets out to do. It doesn't skimp with 4GB of RAM or a chintzy 1,366-by-768 display. It doesn't pretend to be very portable or game-worthy, but it gives you a big, if not dazzling screen, a DVD drive, and capable performance.

With even the Envy flunking this gaming simulation, it's clear these systems are strictly for casual or browser-based games instead of fast-twitch titles. The Dell finished at the back of a slow pack.&nbsp;
