We actually do have a list of games that will not be permitted at our table. For my wife, it's Ghost Stories. She despises how punishingly hard it is. She gave it to me as a gift and then begged me to throw it in a fire. I've banished any game of the Apples to Apples variety because they don't feel like games to me.  I'm sure people will disagree, and that's fine.

Have you ever forbidden a game from your table? What was it?

 If no one guessed my clue. However, if someone does guess my clue, regardless of how many people guess it correctly, as long as one person does but not everybody, then I get three points and anyone who gets the clue also gets three points. Then everyone else gets a clue, get you get or gets one point for every person who gets theirs. So sometimes you get a lot of points

 For instance, when I gave this clue in a game, I said it's your moment, then every other player looks at the cards in their hand and they all put down cards in the middle of the table that they think match. What I just said it's your moment. So then, these cards are all mixed up. The cards are then placed face-up in the middle of the table, and each card is assigned a number in front of it, and then players are trying to figure out which one of these cards is the one that the person who gave the clue put down

 Everyone would guess it and if that happened, everyone except me would get two points. However, if I may my clue very obtuse that no one would guess it, then everyone would get two points. If no one guessed my clue. However, if someone does guess my clue, regardless of how many people guess it correctly, as long as one person does but not everybody, then I get three points and anyone who gets the clue also gets three points

 Secondly, some people will sit there and be like I don't know what to say so. They'Ll say a couple words: black green darkness, angry man uh. You could still work with that and still play with that. But if you play with people who are even the slightest bit creative, this can be really an entertaining game

 The active player aims to describe their cards in such a way that some players, but not all, can work out which card is from the active player. All the other players have to choose a card too that best “fits” with the description the active player gave.

Scoring is more advantageous when only some, rather than all, player guess the active player’s card correctly. The winner is the first to 30, or the player with the highest score when all cards are exhausted.

Once all the players have placed their vote tile, they are all flipped and placed on their corresponding cards (vote tile “1” goes on card “number 1”, and so on). The Storyteller reveals which card was the “real card” and points are scored.

If all the players voted for the Storyteller card, or if none of the players voted for it, everyone except the Storyteller is awarded 2 points. This goes back to what I said previously about the Storyteller being required to balance their description between explicative and purposely misleading. If they described it too well, all the players would easily select it. If they described it so vaguely as to not really be of any help, then no one might select it

In all other cases, the Storyteller is awarded 3 points as do any player who voted for the Storyteller card.

Guessing correctly will earn them points, as will other people voting for their card.But you have to be subtle. The Storyteller only scores points if some of the players around the table guess correctly

 But it can’t be overstated that Dixit is not as simple as its rules. There are all kinds of sinister moments when you’ll be looking at a row of pictures and you’ll realise that of course Millicent would choose a card with a cat on to reference happiness! She’s so predictable. And once you’re trying to follow the plot thread of someone’s imagination, things can get dark fast. I’m not sure I can name another game that might have you factoring the history of someone’s relationships into your plays, trying to figure out whether their clue of “The small war” refers to the couple having dinner or the ants swordfighting atop a pile of coins

It’s so fantastic when board game designers try and experiment with what can be achieved with a group of people sat around a table. It’s not just that we have brains, personalities and imaginations. We love to use them as weapons. We like to bluff, cheat and out-manoeuvre one another in new ways

 Each time you cast your vote correctly, you’re not displaying some tedious bit of familiarity with the rules or nuances of the game. You’re inside somebody’s head.Holy shit!Similarly, when you get really clever as Storyteller and make your description an entire metaphorical sentence, or just a weird squelching noise, and nobody gets it, you’ll be crushed. You didn’t just fail on some mechanical level

Review: Dixit - Shut Up & Sit Down

For me, it's Activity. A few of my friends love it and bring it out every time someone manages aș much as breathes "board game, anyone?".

I hate it passionately. I can't draw, can't mime, I hate making out mimes and also hate how enthusiastic people get about miming.

I thank Dixit for showing me not all board games are pure torture and for getting me into the hobby. Funnily enough, people who like Activity tend to hate Dixit.

What's a decent board game that you hate?

 The tharam card cut because the scoring opportunities are greater in a case where not everybody votes for the same card on the table. The trick to being a good storyteller is to be just ambiguous enough to have some players vote for your card and some players not vote for your card. Other players will have the strategy of choosing their cards strategically so that they can trick other players to the table into voting for theirs, which gets them more points as well, once the votes have been tallied and the points have been counted up. The storyteller moves to the next player and everybody draws their hand back up to six cards

 Now each player around the table is gon na vote on which card he or she thinks was the storytellers original card. The voting is done in secret with each player playing a voting token dependent on where the card is on. The table cards are usually numbered from left to right. The storyteller doesn't get a vote and nobody can vote for their own card once the votes have been made

Sometimes games let us down, other times they're mind blowing without us expecting anything from them, and rarer still are the times that games are even more excellent than we can possibly anticipate!

For me a prime example of this was **Firetower**, the first time I played **Firetower** I had no real expectations for the game but sat around the gaming table that game became a magical experience!

Our group doesn't mind gotcha games, as long as they are short and sweet, but **Firetower** really shone for us. What games have surprised you like this??

What game was even more excellent than you anticipated? [Question/Discussion]

 The active player rotates clockwise to the next player. The first player to 30 points wins. However, if the draw deck runs out of cards before then, the player with the most points wins in a three player game. Each player has seven cards in instead of six use

 They think is the active players. You are not allowed to vote for your own once all the votes are in players reveal their choices by placing it on the card they picked. The active player then reveals which card is theirs. If all players find the active players card, then the active player receives 0 points and every other player receives 2 points

 The active player picks one card from his hand and describes it with as much or little detail as they choose. Descriptions can be a part of a poem or song. A movie title, a proverb: a noise, a word, a sentence, anything you want every other player then picks a card from their hand that they think closely matches the active players description. These cards are placed facedown on the table and once all have been received, the active player, shuffles them and flips them over, revealing them to all the players

 Additionally, every other player receives one bonus point per vote on their card move your score token up one for each point. You received discard the used cards and every player draws until they have six cards back in their hand. The active player rotates clockwise to the next player. The first player to 30 points wins
