 It has audio file roots. Getting my hands on the game one sparked something in me. It was the first time I decided to dig deeper into audio, the first time I'd ever used an open back headset or a headphone, and the first time I'd started researching the idea of adding a dac cam to my setup. They marked the milestone moment for me

 You're watching Bad Seed Tech and today we're looking at the Pc38x gaming headset from Drop and Sennheiser. Full transparency. Drop did send these out for review, but as you should know, by now, doesn't affect my review in any way. Trust me, I have tons of gaming headsets so the Pc38x will be available on the 30th and it brings with a price point of 170 Usd that's 50 over the asking price of the Pc37x And it's important to note that this is not a replacement, but a higher tier up in that same line

 It gets a little trickier because while this is one of the if not the best gaming headset I've ever heard, the idea of a premium priced gaming headset in 2020 kind of a tough sell on one hand, with this kind of money, the advice is generally to invest in an audio headphone, and as people's in-house mic setups have gotten more involved due to streaming, the idea of the headset mic is kind of taking a back seat. On the other hand, this is Sennheiser and Drop Two companies that really know their way around audio, so it's not entirely fair to brand it simply as some other gaming headset, and some people do just want the convenience of a pickup and used product without a boom mic or a mod mic or whatever. So that's my final take on it. It's an amazing gaming headset

 It's tough plastic that will withstand some drops and the like, but it's easily scratched and scuffed. The biggest changes here come in the headband padding, which is now two separate pads allowing for an indent for the crown of your head. The material has changed as well, and it's not like a breathable mesh. The out-of-the-box comfort on these is better than the Hd58x for me, less clamping force and the long-wear comfort is better than the Gsp series

Hello guys, so i decided to start streaming on twitch and i wanted a better quality headset than the 20€ 6yrs old i used to have.
So i got baited by the razer kraken headset which costed me about 80€ and audio (and mic) quality is trash. I felt bad because i own a razer keyboard which is actuall really good.
Reading around the internet the general opinion is that ‘gaming’ headsets are overprized cause of branding etc..
Can you guys suggest me some good headphones around 100€? Do you think that a 100$ studio headphones sounds that much better than a 100€ gaming headset?
I am no audio expert, i already own an external mic and audio card.

Are gaming headsets ridiculously overprized?

I bought this for my girlfriend after seeing so many audiophile youtube reviewers recommend it (I use a pair of KZ ZS10 Pros paired with a Shure SM58 which is complete overkill, but I like buying and testing out audio gear as a hobby and these were my favorite earphones and microphone I've tried.)  Anyway, I bought these for my girlfriend after reviews, yada yada yada. So they arrived, I tried them out, and honestly, kinda disappointed.  They're of course open-back headphones, and they have a decent soundstage, but the actual audio quality isn't that good? I didn't spend enough time heavily listening to them to pinpoint what didn't sound good about them, but they definitely didn't sound good enough to justify $180 (Or realistically, $150, since the microphone is about as good as a $30 boom mic

 So they arrived, I tried them out, and honestly, kinda disappointed.  They're of course open-back headphones, and they have a decent soundstage, but the actual audio quality isn't that good? I didn't spend enough time heavily listening to them to pinpoint what didn't sound good about them, but they definitely didn't sound good enough to justify $180 (Or realistically, $150, since the microphone is about as good as a $30 boom mic.)  The microphone is pretty good, I wouldn't say I was disappointed with the quality of it relative to other mics built into "Gaming" headsets, but on a $180 pair of headphones? It could definitely be better, especially if you're gaming on a PC where you have a much wider range of audio input than a 3.5mm jack

Good for an all-in-one headset.

&#x200B;. &#x200B;. I was not sure if I should post this here, but I did want to share my thoughts, from the perspective of a former professional Counter-Strike player and current high tier competitive player, pertaining to the Sennheiser HD 560S, Sennheiser/Drop PC38X, and Hifiman HE 400i.

 I don't think I have big ears but I do have to adjust this every now and then while gaming a while because the cups are too narrow.  The way the headband frame attaches to the earcup joint/mounts (2 screws) is some plastic thing that doesn't look like it will wear well; it doesn't twist well left to right when you go to put them on. I've had headsets in the past with similar build quality and that is the first part to break. Twisting a lot over time will weaken them and a few drops off your desk will probably finish the job

 That said, it's comfortable enough to stick with. The earcups are a little narrow- kind of shaped like a vertical football. I don't think I have big ears but I do have to adjust this every now and then while gaming a while because the cups are too narrow.  The way the headband frame attaches to the earcup joint/mounts (2 screws) is some plastic thing that doesn't look like it will wear well; it doesn't twist well left to right when you go to put them on

  I'll update if anything breaks, but I put a lot of mileage on headsets so if this lasts 2 years I'll be happy.

Good sound and sorta comfortable with average build quality

**Senn + DROP PC38X:** Got these in yesterday, and so far, so good. I might switch to them for Zoom meetings as the microphone is very convenient, and they sound very good for the price. What I did really like about them is the imaging - it was a substantial upgrade to my other cheaper headphones (including the POS Sony PS5 Pulse headphones, which sound horrible) for games. More testing is needed, though

Here's my collection of headphones, so far. [I posted my DAC/AMP setup earlier this week](https://www.reddit.com/r/headphones/comments/l9qfmk/my_endgame_setup_perhaps_nowhere_to_go_from_here/), and here's what I got for ***cans***. Hope you guys/gals like it.

**Senn + DROP HD6XX:** Pretty much my "daily driver" for Zoom meetings and listening to music while working. I have it pretty much hooked up to the iFi Zen DAC + Zen CAN all the time, with the suggested "tweaks" turned on - both xBass and 3D Sound. It sounds very good on that setup, and it's my go-to for everyday. I like it a lot, and I don't have problems with the mid-to-upper range like some people do (piercing sound, or anything like that).

**Focal Elex:** I got lucky and these are working just fine for me from DROP (despite all the quality problems reported by many customers). I absolutely love them - they sound great, with great punch on the lower range, and as far as dynamics go, they're my first choice for rock, pop, indie, etc. I enjoy its sound for games, but it's mostly my main driver for music. Most of the time, they're hooked up to the RME ADI-2 + THX 789, but I often give them a listen plugged to the Valhalla 2, which adds a lot of warmth to the sound.

**DT 177x GO:** My go-to for evening listening when I can't afford to bother the kid or my wife. I really like the way these sound, even though I'm not in love with it. I tried a bunch of different pads on them, and ended up settling on the leather ones - the velour ones were incredibly hot. I tried the XL perforated ones, and they were pretty uncomfortable. They are so easy to drive that I basically plug them to whatever is available. There's just something that... bugs me, when I wear them. Not sure if "flat" is the best way to describe it, but they're just not that exciting to me. I'm hoping to replace them with a Focal Celestee for my closed-back needs.

**HiFiMan Ananda:** I'm a big fan of planars - I had an old HE400S (since gifted to a friend), and decide to skip the Sundara, going directly for the next step up. The Arya was a bit out of budget, so I settled for the next best option, and I absolutely love these. It's my planar alternative to the Elex for music listening, specially jazz, classical, and other genres. I love the soundstage and imaging. I really dislike it for games, though - it's way too bright. Pretty much plugged to my RME ADI-2 + THX 789 whenever I use them.

**HD 800S:** The big boy, amazing for games, amazing for music. Enough said, they sound quite different from my other top two headphones in my collection (the Elex and the Ananda). They're extremely comfortable, to the point of being too loose. I plug them into the RME ADI-2 directly, which has plenty of power, and sometimes I switch to the Valhalla 2, which really changes things. Love these, and whenever I go for long listening sessions (1h+), I go for them.

**Aeon Open X:** For my tastes, they require quite a bit of EQ. They're... pretty good, not amazing. One thing of note, though: they are very comfortable, and while a bit bulky, with some EQ they sound very good. They're a bit of the black sheep here in this collection, and I don't get to use them as much as I'd like, but when I'm looking for some variety, they're my go to plugged to the RME ADI-2 for that EQ goodness.

My collection, from gaming headsets to the high(er) end - dunno what's next

  Doing a mic test between the two, much less fidelity on this set vs the PC360's.  They are comfy, had high hopes for sound quality, but was let down in that category.  If you can still find the PC360's I highly recommend them, a FAR superior experience.

Had the PC360's for a decade, wow, rich sound, balanced, and the mic was unreal. This set? These push the mids to the extreme, makes ear fatigue a real thing, and the sound is horribly out of balance as a result.  Doing a mic test between the two, much less fidelity on this set vs the PC360's.  They are comfy, had high hopes for sound quality, but was let down in that category

Comfortable, but mic quality and sound quality lacking compared to PC360's.

 I think the only real way you can screw up is not getting the right headphones for the use case...

 "No noise cancel is preferred as he wants to be able to hear mom come upstairs.". Be careful a lot of the recommendations here are audiophile headphones without a mic.

Hi HeadphoneAdvice!

I was looking to get some new headphones for my brother for his birthday. He will be turning 16 at the end of the month and has been using some old fake beats by Dre Dre. I don’t know much about this space so that’s why I decided to look for some help here! 

I am looking to spend maybe $200-400. 

I know he wants on the ear headphones because over the ear makes his glasses press against his head and he doesn’t like that feeling. 

His primary use for the headphones is just at home for games and discord, talking to his friends. No noise cancel is preferred as he wants to be able to hear mom come upstairs.  I think his headphones now are just audio Jack into his computer, so that would be preferred as well I suppose. But if there’s something better out there, I’d be open to looking at anything.

He listens to like j-rock, anime music as far as I know. Not really bass heavy stuff so maybe something that’s more balanced would fit well here. 

If I’m missing anything please let me know! Willing to offer more information if need be! Thank you!

edit1: He has a standalone microphone already, so just the headphones for sound is needed.

FINAL CHOICE: Just felt like updating this post with what I ended up going with. Ended up picking the Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro for him. So far, he seems to be enjoying it! He says they look a little funny on his head but he likes how they sound! They don’t fit too tight on his head and push in on his glasses much.
