 The Ball Animal 3 did score much higher in the usable or unsealed suction test, but that was more to do with the head design, which is the real star of the show in my opinion, which I'll get to in a minute. Needless to say, these power numbers are well above average for any vacuum, and we saw that power manifested in tests like the crevice pickup test, as well as the carpet deep clean test, where we embed sand into medium pile carpet and weigh the bin before and after a set number of passes where it got a perfect score. But the main thing that sets it apart from previous Dyson uprights is the all new cleaner head design. The first thing you may notice is the smaller cleaning path width, which I actually prefer, since it gives you more options when maneuvering in tight spaces

 It has the same super long 15 foot hose and wand design, which gives you a fairly wide range of options for above floor cleaning and can be used with or without the wand attached. Its immediate predecessor, the Dyson Ball Animal 2, had the most raw suction I'd ever seen on an upright vacuum, and the Ball Animal 3 had almost identical suction and airflow numbers in our tests. With the various pickup tests, I was impressed with what it could do compared to previous models. For example, it was much better with hard floor pickup. And in general, I think the new head makes it a more valuable and versatile vacuum, and eliminates some deal breakers I had with the previous versions

 Power cord constantly gets wrapped around the teeny back wheels. The stair tool barely makes contact to begin with, but if the surface isn't perfectly flat, it won't suck up anything at all (e.g., trying to clean the filter grate of a room air purifier)

Impressive vaccum; still needs improvement

  I seriously don’t know why we waited so long to get one! This machine is absolutely amazing!! It cleaned up our furry house in no time, the suction is amazing (there wasn’t hardly any dust beneath our area rug) and the control is so easy (I honestly don’t know why I’ve seen so many reviews that say that it’s too heavy and hard to control). The weight is substantial, but to me it feels like it’s perfect for the amount of power coming from this baby.  I love the super long cord and the wand. Oh! And, the reusable filter actually is a reusable filter! (My last vacuum had a “reusable” filter, but it was a nightmare to deal with)

We have 3 dogs and a cat that all heavily shed, as well as we live in the desert (so, lots of dust). After going through a couple midrange vacuums we decided to take the plunge and go for the Dyson.  I seriously don’t know why we waited so long to get one! This machine is absolutely amazing!! I have a couple of long haired cats and a lab so I need to keep carpets clean a lot. I put this on high suction and I couldn't believe that the carpet looked brand new. This is replacing a Bissell which is just not as good at all. That one I missed the return so may donate it to someone who has bare floors as it's not as good on carpets at all
