To me, the Apple Watch does pretty good for something NOT designed specifically to track sports via GPS. I wouldn’t consider the difference significant enough to worry about.

I have a Garmin Instinct Solar, and my wife has an Apple Watch 6. We go on daily walks in the afternoon and evening for a total of about 5 miles a day. We have been consistently starting and stopping our watches at the same point and time. I find that the difference between the two devices is roughly 0.01 miles after a 2-3 mile walk. Sometimes it’s the Garmin and sometimes it’s the Apple Watch that’s given a longer distance. I have been impressed with both devices accuracy.

  It's apps are nowhere as sleek or interactive as Apple Watch or wearOS. Yes they have an app store and I tried many apps but there are many limitations, especially because Garmin software development kit is so awful, people are not going to write great apps. Also, there are many different models of Garmin smartwatches and a typical developer would have to modify their code to work with different resolutions, square vs. round watch, LED vs

  I wanted to track not just steps, but other activities such as running, tennis, etc. On WearOS watches, turning on the GPS would kill the battery in hours. On the Venu, I could track hours of activities with GPS on and just use up 20 to 30%.  The Venu was really hard to get used to, and I consider myself a geek with electronics

Only buy it if you need it. Here is why.

 It's annoying that Garmin does this, and it feels anachronistic given that Apple always releases new WatchOS updates to older devices.  - Similarly, other Garmin devices have a lot of nice software features like training effect, altitude and heat acclimation, etc. which could have been included on this device but weren't. I'll cut Garmin a little more slack for this since they're licensing these features from FirstBeat, so they probably pay more per feature, but at least giving us the option to pay for that extra functionality without dropping another $200+ on a Fenix device would have been nice

 The raise-to-wake functionality is responsive enough to not be bothersome, but you can also have the display always on during activities only, which provides a good compromise between maximum battery life and maximum ease of use.  - GPS accuracy is generally great. It seems to be a noticeable improvement compared to the Fitbit Ionic, which was pretty good but had a tendency to cut corners.  - The workout display shows 4 different data fields on each screen, and you can customize the layout, order and number of screens

]  - No eBike activity, so you can't distinguish between normal bike rides and eBike rides in Connect. You can't even set this later on the Connect website, even though it supports many different types of cycling.  - No open water swimming support, even though Garmin supports this on other devices with the same GPS chipset, accelerometer, etc. In other words, I don't think there's any reason this watch couldn't support open water swimming, but Garmin is withholding the feature as a price differentiator

 While I like the option of installing apps and add-ons, it's more important to me that the device tracks my sleep, heart rate, steps and workouts, and that it does all of those things well. With that in mind, I'm quite happy with my Venu after a couple weeks of owning it, but there are a few caveats.  Pros: - The battery life is at least as good as advertised. With the always on display mode disabled and pulse ox tracking enabled only while sleeping, I'm getting 5+ days on a charge

A great fitness-focused smartwatch, but the price is steep

So as far as I'm aware, unless they're recently updated it then Venu series (including Venu 2) doesn't have training status, recovery time or training effect stats available. So I'd say other than a nice, new shiny device with a great heart rate sensor that actually works properly this time, you're probably not getting a huge amount in the way of features/stats by moving from the 235 to the Venu 2. Specifically for running, you might be better off with a Forerunner 245.

I've got a Fenix 6 Sapphire, mainly because I wanted something that would be robust (I don't baby my devices and my Apple Watch has taken a battering), and give me more in-depth health metrics as I tend to go through phases of overtraining and burnout. I play a lot of tennis, do a fair bit of indoor rowing and Wattbiking, and I'd like to get back into running. The sleep tracking was also essential for me, as I've got really bad sleep habits.

All that said, I could probably have just gotten away with continuing to use my Apple Watch Series 4 as i'm not an athlete :)

Maaaaan who thought upgrading a sports watch would be such an angsty experience (first world problems) can anyone help? 

I've ordered the Venu 2S and it's on the way, upgrading from a Forerunner 235. I run probably between 20-30k per week, do the odd half marathon and am looking for a watch that's nice enough to wear daily as well as track my runs. I also do full day hikes but never overnight ones. Maybe one day I'll do a marathon. Maybe.

I'm coming at my upgrade from a very stat-less position - I've never really paid attention to recovery time on my 235, and it doesn't have training load either, so I don't really know what I'm missing. So my question is...what am I missing with these stats? Are they really so important, so I should upgrade to a watch that has them? Does anyone else run without these stats?

I mean, I love the fenix. But I can't justify paying $1200 for a watch because I'm just not a super athlete.

Overthinking my Garmin upgrade...and the line between enough stats and too many?

 What happened to Amazon?  12/08/2019  Returning it. Maybe I got a dud, but this one is not as advertised. Battery life is half the advertised amount and that is with every feature turned off and down. 4 to 5 days was a big factor in my purchase, if I wanted 1 or 2 days I would have gone with the Galaxy

Withings Steel HR. I have the sapphire version with the blue/brown color combination.

The Steel HR does everything I want from a Smartwatch. It looks like a watch, it's not huge, I can read my notifications (although settings for display speed would be nice) and it can track steps/heartrate/sleep/sports.

The app is well done and quick. The bluetooth connection seldom drops and everything works as advertised. I owned a Fossil/Skagen Hybrid Smartwatch before and the Fossil app was much worse.

I use the Coros Apex PRO with mine (I'm a runner & the battery life is insanely amazing). 

The Facebook messenger notifications were relentless (it buzzed when I received a message, when I opened the bubble, or even when I opened the app). So, I simply turned those notifications off.

I only use the text & call notifications because everything else was just overwhelming/obnoxious. That's also because my Pixel was updated & the "new & improves bubbles" turned my notifications to shit.

Suunto also have great support and update regularly. It was also the first watch to get the HMR2 update  :-)

I currently have the gear s2 but I'm looking to upgrade my smartwatch to a fitbit sense or a newer samsung watch at some point, all though I kind of don't want a samsung watch any longer even though it's pretty good, I've been eyeing the fitbit sense as it's google acquired now...

Anyways opinions? What do you have? And explain about it?
