 The Venue SQ, the original Venue SQ, is one of my favorite smartwatches, especially when it comes to fitness tracking. So when Garmin released the Venue SQ2, I was really excited to see what upgrades and improvements they would make upon the original. And the Venue SQ2 is a really nice smartwatch. Garmin have added a lot of updates and improvements here, but they've made one change that just takes away from the Venue SQ's best feature

 The SQ2 is 38 grams, and a very comfortable fit, similar to the original SQ. And like the original SQ, the SQ2 syncs with the Garmin app on your iOS or Android device to give you a lot of data about your workouts, calorie burning, heart rate, and more. There are though a few enhancements on the SQ2 itself. One big one is that you can now view your sleep score directly from the watch itself

 But you'll get a lot more detailed information when you sync your watch to the Garmin app, but for a quick glance to get an idea of how well you slept, it's handy to have the sleep score on the watch itself. The SQ2 also has a few extra exercises not found on the original SQ, like paddle ball, but all of the common classics are here as well. Running, walking, both of which can be activated automatically through the SQ, walking, both of which can be activated automatically through the settings after you move, say, for 10 minutes continuously, and of course other exercises like skiing, biking, and swimming. The SQ2, like the SQ original, is a fitness-focused smartwatch

 The better screen, the added features, this is a really nice smartwatch. But at $250, I think it's overpriced, especially when you compare it to the SQ. If it were at its original price of $199, then I think this would be a much more enticing purchase. And it's kind of the problem Garmin has throughout their smartwatch lineup

Garmin Venu SQ 2 Review: One Upgrade Too Much? - YouTube

Good tracker with no glaring issues. I feel like this is more of a fitness tracker than a smartwatch. It does sleep tracking well, but for some reason, it doesn't track it well if you wake up in the middle of the night. Stress tracking is beneficial, and it gives you a pretty good notification from your phone

 They can try plenty of your health metrics, and they also have plenty of different sports and fitness features. But maybe more importantly is that the Venue Series lineup watches also get pretty great battery life. So in today's video, I'll be going over everything that you need to know about the new Venue SQ2, including what it can do as a smartwatch, the health and activity tracking features, as well as how accurate it is in tracking fitness and sports like running, cycling, as well as weight training. And if the information in this video does help you out at all, don't be shy about hitting that like button down below

 If I were to enable the always-on display mode, I was getting more like two to three days out of it. So the always-on display, it's awesome to look at, but it does consume quite a bit more battery life, so just keep that in mind. And then on the smartwatch side of things, you'll be able to receive notifications like texts, emails, social app notifications, and all that good stuff. With texts, if you're on an iPhone, you'll be able to receive the text, but you won't be able to reply, unfortunately, but that has to do with Apple not allowing text replies on anything other than an Apple Watch

 Overall though, the heart rate accuracy of the Venue SQ2 is very reliable for stuff like running, as well as road biking, and it did an okay job at stuff like weight training, as well as mountain biking, but you will see more variance with those types of activities, but the same thing can be said for basically any type of watch out there. The good news is though, is that the Venue SQ2 can pair with external heart rate monitors to get more reliable data for those types of activities. And in addition to being able to connect to external heart rate straps, you can also connect to other accessories like speed and cadence sensors for cycling and a bunch more. And by the way, if you're looking for a recommendation or a good budget friendly external heart rate strap, I did a video on a bunch of different options that I'll have linked down in the description below

 And here's where you can see there's a bit more variance versus the other activities that we saw before, where it tracked this first set high, but then it did get back in line for the rest of those sets. Then on these bicep curls, again, tracked a little bit high, but then for the remainder of the workout, it did a good job, including the high intensity intervals at the end. And then for mountain biking, we can see that on the first half of the ride, things were solid out of the Venue SQ2, but on the second half is where we see it wander a bit here and there. But what I want to show you is that these are on these sections where I was going downhill over some rough terrain and basically the rougher the terrain, the more the watch can bounce around, which can throw off the sensor

Garmin Venu Sq 2 In-Depth Review // Fitness and Sports

I've got a couple friends that RAVE about Garmin watches so I decided to try one out. This feels very cheap and lightweight, like a toy. The UI is ugly and navigating through the apps felt clumsy and non-intuitive. After I complained to my Garmin using friends they said, "Oh you need to get one of the top of the line models if you want a good one"

Very underwhelming

 In regards to that auto-rest detection that I was talking about earlier, it actually works pretty well and it does take a few seconds to register that you're taking a rest. And what's neat is that the interval timer just showed 35 seconds but what it does is that when it cycles through to show your last interval time, it actually adjusts the interval time to make up for those few seconds that it takes to register that you're in a rest period. It's kind of a neat feature. The Venu SQ also will track your heart rate in the water for swimming but just like weight training, there's going to be a lot of arm movement but not only that, there's a possibility of water getting in between the sensor as well as your skin which can kind of mess up heart rate results

 With the music version of the Venue SQ, you'll be able to sync playlists from a bunch of the popular streaming music services like Spotify, Pandora, Deezer, as well as Amazon Music but you can also choose to save that $50 by going with the non-music version. And being that it does have music storage and playback, the Venue SQ does pair up with Bluetooth headphones and I paired up the AirPods Pro as well as the Jaybird Vistas with no problems. For daily activity tracking on this My Day widget, it'll show you what activities you've done that day, your steps, your calories burned, as well as your tracked hydration. You'll be able to enter this widget where it gives details of the activities including the calories burned and some other details like distance and time

 So if you're looking for something like the original Venu but wanted something a little bit less expensive, I think the Venu SQ could be right up your alley and may give you everything that you need.  I find that the always on display is nice where you can take a glance at your watch without having to raise your wrist to wake it up but just keep in mind that it will drain the battery faster using the always on display. On the back of the device, you'll find the charging port along with Garmin's elevate heart rate sensor and the Venue SQ also does have a blood oxygen sensor. And the Venue SQ uses industry standard 20mm watch straps so you'll be able to mix things up if you'd like with tons of different watch straps to choose from. For smartwatch features, you'll get one way notifications when you pair the Venue SQ up with an iPhone but when you pair it with an Android device, you'll be able to reply to text messages using one way responses that you'll set up in Garmin Connect

Overpriced

 11 days of battery life. With my testing, if you are going to be using it a lot with a lot of different workouts, you're probably going to be looking at nine to 10 days, but you can push it to 12 days on battery saving mode, and if you're going to be using GPS only, you can get 26 hours with GPS. Also, with that battery, there is a barrel charger that you do connect into the bottom. This is pretty much universal across all Garmin devices, but it charges quickly, so you can get pretty much a full charge in about two hours, but if you're using it to just charge while you're going to take a shower, you can just have a perpetual battery life you never really have to worry about

 There are a lot of communities with different runs and different bike tracks and all of that. And all of it is free, built in with body battery, which is an interesting way to see how much energy you have left in your day and how much you can push in your workout. And it has things like NFC payments with Garmin Pay as well. With this, fitness tracking is always checking your heart rate and you can change that if you want to save a little bit of battery

 The app, in my opinion, is a great plus. It goes through the Garmin IQ app. This goes through a lot of different things. There are smart notifications through that

 You don't want to always be changing that in settings. And it also has pulse ox, so it will be able to go blood saturation, and it will be continuously monitoring your heart rate and that as well. The app, in my opinion, is a great plus. It goes through the Garmin IQ app
