 But no matter what I try, the color pictures from the M479 don't look as good as from the M281.  Lastly, for copying Black Text, both models are the same, with the advantage of 2-sided scanning on the M479. But for color copying, the M479 looks terrible. I tried to copy a few pictures (that where original film-to-paper prints or from an inkjet) and the color copies on the M479 look way off

 But when it comes to printing a color picture, the M281 produces better looking and more realistic colors, while the M479 colors are more dull/faded and don't match the original picture. I made sure both printers are using the same color settings and have the newest Firmware and Drivers installed. But no matter what I try, the color pictures from the M479 don't look as good as from the M281.  Lastly, for copying Black Text, both models are the same, with the advantage of 2-sided scanning on the M479

Tired of relying on work printers when I need to print things. Threw away a Epson printer/scanner combo last year that was useless at connecting over WiFi and ate ink for breakfast. I won't be printing much, often just shipping labels and other notes to share or refer to. I would even say I don't really need colour printing. I am in the UK if that's any consideration also on prices / ink / availability ... Size isn't too much of an issue but it'll be going in a cupboard under the stairs so any real estate that can be saved is probably for the better.

Not opposed to a printer/scanner combo but I think I would rather get a decent high quality scanner later on.

Good printers that work well on Linux?

Think twice if using with a Mac computer!!!!  Can you live without 2 factor id on apple? Can you live without scan to email?

 I understand that I cannot expect that from this printer and similar laser printers. However, this printer yields very dark photographs that are completely lacking in detail. In short, documents that include photographs are simply unacceptable.  I have subsequently been able to compare the results from this printer with other printers, and ended up getting a Canon MF634cdw

So looking at buying my wife a decent CB for her to use for her work.  My issue is this deal with Google dropping Cloud Print .. which , while it was a pain in the ass , I managed to get working for use with my CB and the grandkids when they came over.  Now that is going away and frankly I'm confused at whats replacing it .. they say "WiFi" connected printers .. only both my printers are WiFi connected .. and I can print to them from the Wndows  laptop and all my Linuc boxes but the CB's don't see them.  One is a Cannon MG3600 which I think is no longer supported? The other a Brother HL-L2340 .. also no longer supported?  So to use a chromebook I have to buy a new printer ... is that it?  I guess I could .. one of these was given to me  .. the other old ... so .. but how do you find one? I've looked and many talk about "Google Cloud Print Ready" .. but in 2 weeks that goes away and .. will those still work?

Nice But would NOT buy again

 I use this for my business and I'm constantly changing from legal to letter to checks. That in it self is time consuming. The biggest problem is the print quality is blotchy in the same spot every time. Not great when you are printing contracts and always have a bad spot on every single page

I'm one of those who didnt return it at the first sign of an issue and now I'm stuck with an expensive printer, expensive ink and having to change to another printer in my office to printer legal doc's.
