 I have always been a big bass fan myself so it's nice to see that a smaller speaker can have a little bit of bass packed into it. Now of course I have an audio test for you guys so I'll see you after. I can feel the winds of change, you live and you learn, and I hope I've seen enough, to make something right, and make up for what I've lost, I was down but things are looking good now, I want to get high on you. I'm gonna tell you that I love you, 100 times a day, you'll get tired of my voice, that's how much, I'm gonna tell you that I'll miss you, I'll miss you if you go, yes I'm gonna let you know, just how much, I tell you mama, I tell you papa too, I'm gonna let everyone know about my love, so I really hope you love me too, yeah I really hope you love me too

 The old light was I believe a 5 little point indicator light and it would tell you how much battery you have left and this does the same thing but the light gets kind of slowly fades away as you take out the battery which I think is a really cool feature. And on the top of the speaker here we have the power and Bluetooth button in the middle I'll show you guys what it looks like when you turn the speaker on it just glows right there and then on each side we have the volume buttons you can see the minus right here and then the plus right here and then the button on the far right is the pause or play button or it'll pause your music with one press or play it with one press and then two taps will allow you to skip to the next song. This button on the far left over here is the party boost button and it allows you to connect multiple JBL speakers together at once to give you a louder sound and you can only connect other JBL speakers with the party boost function so just keep that in mind because it's pretty important that you can only connect them with other JBL speakers with the party boost function. Now unfortunately we can't have a triple press to go back to the previous song which isn't really a big deal for me anyways because I control everything from my phone but this party boost mode is definitely super cool for parties hence the name party boost because it will allow you to connect multiple speakers at the same time and it's kind of this surround sound experience

 So the JBL Flip 5 and the Clip 4 are pretty much just scaled down versions of the Charge 5 and will be a little bit smaller, but again they won't sound quite as good. Now some of you out there may be wanting even louder sound and even better sound quality where you can look at the bigger portable speakers like the JBL Extreme 3 or maybe one of the bigger Sony speakers, but I think the JBL Charge 5 is actually a really good option for most people, kind of in between those two categories. It's still decently portable and it's still big enough to where you have a lot of that great audio, and I really do think it's worth the price for most people. I know I would definitely pay 180 bucks for the speaker because I know it can take it with me places and it's not overly large and it also sounds great and it can get loud

 I've had the Sony XB30s for 4 years, and they remember their stereo state once connected, unfortunately they have tons of connectivity reset issues and were terrible to work with. The only deal breaker for me on these units is lack of access to stereo mode. I am hoping a firmware update can resolve the issue of it remembering to stay in stereo mode once it powers off. Otherwise, they are great portible speakers and the addition of the tweeters give them extra clarity in the stereo field mode, in single speaker mode, I dont really find the tweeter frequencies as useful

 Not to mention some phones will simply time out their connections because it takes so long to connect to the device to set them up. So stereo isn't possible if your phone cant handle it (tried on phones with android 8 to 11). Needs Major Function Improvement For Stereo Mode!!

And it's one of JBL's latest speakers when it comes with a compact design that's easy to carry around. It also offers surprising sound quality for the size, good battery life, and a solid wireless connection for around $180

Both will cost around the same price with a max $20-30 difference so price isn't an issue. I'll be carrying it in my backpack, and will mostly need it for outdoors in a group of 5-6 friends. 

In this situation, which one do you feel is best in terms of sound quality and loudness?

Plus, is the lighting of the xb 33 cool? Would it look like a nice addition in the background while chatting with your friends at nighttime?

Would love some advice from previous owners, I'm upgrading from an xb 12 so both would be significant. Let me know which one I should pick!

Xb 33 or Charge 5?

I went down the review line and read this reviews and nobody seems to mention the sound muffle if you are holding the charge 5 on the exclamation j side. The tweeter is producing most of the sound. I reviewed the charge 4 and the only gripe I had with that was to move the driver to the center instead of one side for balanced  sound  that way if you grab it from any end you still hear sound instead of blockage. It's the same with the charge 5 you have to watch how you hold or grab it to not block sound

 And like I've mentioned in the past, JBL does speaker pairing protocols very well. You just press one button on each speaker and they just pair themselves up. You don't have to open any other apps you can pair up to 100 speakers together which is obviously overkill. But more importantly it just works

 So over all if you're an adventurer looking for a midsize speaker to use on your camping trips and or hikes then the Charge 5 can definitely keep up thanks to its rugged body and long real world battery life. However just keep in mind you can no longer use a wired connection with this speaker. And I would happily trade the USB A port on the Charge 5 for an audio jack.

Maybe you're thinking about getting an upgrade and this is a pretty solid upgrade. But first we've got to address pricing

JBL Charge 5 Review - A Sound Upgrade

Just bought the JBL Charge 5 after my Charge 4 kicked the bucket and was surprised by the improvement in the sound. The Charge 5 has a much richer sound with surprisingly deep bass and better heights with the new tweeter. As far as portable speakers go, the Charge 5 is the best I have heard for its form factor.

The best speaker i have ever heard is marshall woburn 2. I have heard it in a hall of say 40ft by 20ft with decent acoustics. Overall sound signature is warm. The sound is very airy, very thick , very full, very smooth(no peaks or dips in frequency response),very pleasant. I heard it ij the volume range where bass compression had not started ,yet the speaker was very loud. The soundstage is the largest i have listened on a speaker, it is a very immersive thick sound jacket all around you. The bass is textured(you can hear bass within bass), very deep in rumbles territory, timing is slightly laid back but still tight and never boomy on any track. Mids are very clear, intimate, promiment, full, voice tones are very accurate. Treble is pleasant,non fatiguing, crisp and high quality. There is no overlap of any frequency into any frequency.

Edifier R1000t4. It has a bit too much bass and recessed mids at low volumes but can be tweaked with some EQ. Also has some powerful EQ knobs bundled. Sounds a bit more defined than the Soundcore Motion+ while being a bit cheaper.

Talk about Best Speaker you've ever heard.

Music quality is great on this speaker, better than my Charge 3, and 100x better than the Extreme 2.  BUT, I cannot get phone call ring sounds, text message notification sounds, or other notification sounds to come thru the speaker. Therefore, when connected to the speaker and listening to music, I have no idea if my phone rings or if I get a text message or other notification.  I have tried with an iPad Pro, an iPhone 8 and with an iPhone 11, all having the newest iOS software
