All my friends who have a smoker also have a gas grill. I was hoping to get a recteq 1250 and avoid getting a gas grill but my friends still suggest a gas grill in addition to a smoker. Alternatively, I was toying with getting a bullseye as my starting grill as  that seems to be able to fill the role as gas grill as well as being a smoker. Recommendations?

I own no grill what so ever. What is recommended as a good start?

 Needless to say I doubt I’m going to buy another Kamado Joe product. Should have gotten the Weber Summit Kamado or Big Green Egg for a bit more money. I’ll probably end up selling this grill eventually.

 I had high hopes for this grill. I thought my cook times would be longer with the added insulation but it’s no better than a properly set up Weber kettle. Quality control and customer service is lacking.

One thing every man needs to own in his life is a Weber kettle...change my mind.

 And the ash tray is very thin cheap metal that isnt welded. Its just folded together. Pliers just bend it and now its permanently stuck in there.

Should I just get one master touch premium and be done with it? I only cook for large groups(10+) of people a few times a year. My budget is around $1000 all in . Ideas on what rigs to buy?

 The big benefit of a Kamado is it holds temp steady forever ... with the Kettle Joe you have to constantly monitor, especially late since you will have to reload the coals and let them burn "dirty" before putting the meat back on (unless it is wrapped)

I dropped a note to KJ to see if they have any suggestions, I will follow-up here. So far I have not heard back other than they made it a PITA to post a negative review

  (UPDATED) So far I have done a couple of "low and slow" cooks ... chicken (3-4 hours), ribs (4-5 hours), pulled pork (6-7 hours) and brisket (7-9 hours) - as expected, the longer cooks like pulled pork or brisket required reloading more charcoal, which obviously is going to be a royal P

 On my weber, just put the lid down and shut the vents and it is cool within 1/2 hour. On the Kettle Joe, it leaks so bad that the thing stayed > 200 degrees and fried every last bit of charcoal.  Just in case I assembled it incorrectly .

There are lots of clones, but they seem of inferior quality. Is there a kettle maker that is way better? I hate the ash pan on the master touch seems hard to install to me.

Is there a Superior kettle to Weber?

 2nd several bolts are missing for the legs when they are to be secured to the kettle itself. 3rd the sloroller has chips all around the top and bottom edges from movement during shipping. 4th one of the tabs in the sloroller is missing paint or the paint cracked which is going to rust and hoping Kamado Joe provides touch up paint. I am waiting to use the kettle until after I talk to customer service and other than these several items this kettle looks and feels really nice

 Will update once I get to use it  Update 1) The original photos only show a few of the chips 2) Put in a service ticket and though Kamado is replacing the thermostat and missing bolts they won't cover the chipped up sloroller as they state "chips don't affect performance" but no where can I find it in they warranty that it says the warranty is only for parts that affect performance. The sloroller has a minimum of 5-6 chips per top and bottom edge and in no way is it acceptable to expect a customer to pay full price for damaged goods. I asked them to reconsider and clearly let them know their final decision will determine any future purchases of their products, needless to say they didn't so this is my 1st and last purchase of a Kamado product!!! 3) I am also finding it extremely difficult to control the burn on this thing, even dampered almost all the way down it's still running at 400 degrees. This needs a gasket around the lid and so far only when I haven't let the coals catch more than 50% have I been able to keep the burning down for smoking

Possibly might be able to do Kamado jow but I don't think they do financing unless I get through home depot or something and honestly I'd rather not spend 2k on the grill either. The vision series s or c( I don't know that the difference is) seems to be what I'm leaning towards since it has ash pan. Anyone own theee that can shed some light on these vs big green egg or similar. I will use it for smoking as well but not all the time..I really want a 22 in grate with slide out ash pan.

looking for ceramic kamodo grill

 Read the directions on the grill and because it isn’t addressed that I saw, we got a nasty burnt thanksgiving turkey. Not really the fault of the grill but the instructions weren’t clear on how to use the smoking chamee
