  I also examined the Camp 18 that I also received same day and it was flawless. I have yet to put it through a workout but I'm certain that it's a beast. It is razor sharp and I mean RAZOR SHARP!! I'll write a review of the 18 under the Camp 18 section but I wanted to share that this defect on the 10 was not present on the the 18.  Please don't let this prevent you from buying the blade

  This means that this is a defect in the manufacturing of the blade or blade sharpening. I never used the blade but had I, I have no doubt in my mind that those faults would have cracked through.  I provided pictures for you to see. I rated this a 3/5 instead of a 1/5 because the knife is a beast and though the flaws were there it's still razor sharp

It's critical for you to inspect your blade's edge even right out of the box.

 I typically build small camp fires, and because it doesn't really have a full tang, I wasn't about to do any batoning with it. For what I do with it, it's great. Do not expect this knife to be an all-around knife for your camping and fire building adventures. This is NOT a heavy-duty knife

 It serves as a cross between a machete, knife and hatchet. So with this you could use this instead of the former combination.  That said, I would not want to carry this backpacking because of its weight. And I do not like the sheath straps

But this is a tool I'll put in my car camping kit and I don't plan to use it for belt wear

Solid Sturdy Blade

The knife is exactly as described on the site I found one problem which isn't all that terrible but it still is a problem any how the sheath itself takes and holds the knife too loosely for my taste I can probably remedy it but I just haven't figured what I will be doing just yet further review will reveal what I intend to do for now it is a very good knife well worth the price as compared to a few others

 The actual edge is a secondary bevel that's shallower that I expected to see on a blade like this, and actually looks like it was polished a bit at the factory, which I did not expect to see at this price point. The problem is with the secondary bevel; the steepness gives great bite into whatever you're working on, but at the same time, it reduces strength. Combine a fairly soft heat treat, where the blade hardness is comparable to an axe or hatchet blade, and it's easy to nick or ding the edge and create a flat spot. If you accidentally hit the ground or a rock while using this blade, expect to get a ding in the edge

 The shorter blade and lighter weight compared to the Golok, combined with the saber-ground edge, make it both more maneuverable, easy to control, and efficient. I got more clean hits when chopping than with the Golok doing the same work. If you're looking for a "big knife", "big chopper", or a "one tool" cutter/chopper for camping, this is the best value for the money I've ever seen. You won't be disappointed

 Overall though, as I use the knife and will be sharpening it, I'll convex the edge for more strength and durability. If you take this knife into the woods with you, make sure you have some kind of sharpening device; you'll need it.  In sum, an excellently designed knife and sheath, at a great price. I compared it with my Condor Tool and Knife "Golok" machete, and much to my surprise, the C10 out-chopped it, and was much better for lighter cutting tasks

 After taking a green kitchen scrubber to it to get the pine sap off the blade, it wore through almost completely. Normally this would be a significant issue for me, but given the price point of the knife, I can accept it.  -Blade, particularly edge, grind. The blade is what's usually referred to as a saber-grind; a full thickness section along the spine or back edge of the blade, tapering linearly down to the edge

 Finish quality (coating, on a scale of 1-10) 3. Pommel, rubberized, definitely not for hammering. Overall quality lends itself to recreational and light-duty use only. Definitely not for serious professional use such as military, or fire and rescue

 Seriously? After a few more swings the edge was noticeably duller.  A few weeks later, for my 2nd time using this knife (again, just testing it out), the blade got dinged from a knot in another small limb. So, after just two test uses of this Camp 10, i.e

 Kershaw, please eliminate this accent from the the Camp 18 and you will have a fine large blade.I will be carrying the Kershaw Camp 18 on a 10 miler through some very bushy territory. Can't wait!Oh yeah, did I mention I love the flat grind!?

I needed a heavier blade to use for cutting brush like honeysuckle and autumn olive so I picked up the Kershaw Camp 18 and it seems to fit the bill. First, I consider this to be a stout machete rather than a large camp knife which is okay with me. The blade came reasonably sharp out of the box, well oiled and packaged so I set to work on a patch of honeysuckle. The Kershaw Camp 18 performed well enough dispatching heavier growth by striking the limbs at the apex of the curve, while the the thinner shoots severed easily enough by using the front 2 inches

 So try I did, and worked it did. It chopped through a 4in diameter sapling in about 60 seconds. The blade bit well and released easily enough. I then cleaned the thing of some smaller branches and several of them I could just "push" them off with the blade

 Overall I am very pleased with the blade. It has a good weight to it, without being too heavy. Sharp out of the box, and well shaped for chopping and a good feel in the hand aside from roughness. The other thing is the sheath/scabbard is a bit loose on the knife

Strong Sturdy Chopper.

 The sheath is made from a strong black plastic and has lots of slots for straps/holes for para cord to strap it to anything you would want to strap it to. It also comes with a couple Velcro straps that work well for securing the sheath to a belt in standard or drop leg configuration. My only minor complaint is that the machete does rattle slightly in the hard plastic sheath so it does make a little noise. Not too big a deal, but you're not going to creep around like a ninja
