The keys have a comfortable texture and a heck of a lot of travel, without being too loud. The typing experience feels closer to that of a mechanical keyboard than to that of flatter laptop keys.  The price for more performance is the louder fan noise, but we believe this is a good compromise. After all, you should be able to utilize the performance of the components you paid for. However, the cooling solution seems to have reached its limitations, and more powerful components will probably require an overhauled cooling solution for the next model. The third generation of the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme offers more performance, but you have to live with louder fans in return

 The input devices (the keyboard in particular) are still excellent and overall, the the third generation of the ThinkPad x1 Extreme is once again a very good multimedia laptop.

Best gaming/school laptop?

After five years on Mac, I cannot stand it anymore and I want to go back to my beloved Linux/Thinkpad marriage. 

As I professional writer, I'm looking for the best possible keyboard on a laptop (sadly, no mechanical keyboards on laptops).

As I'm very rarely on my desk, often on the go or outside, I'm need very good battery and a laptop as light as possible (1kg would be perfect). And thin to go into my biking backpack. Oh, and a matte screen too, to type outside.

Last but not least, I'm very sensitive to noise and can't stand fan noise in the background. Also, I hate having my hands warmed by the palm rest or the keyboard. So heat dissipation is a big issue.

On the other hand, I don't need much power nor good graphics or whatever (not playing at all. The heaviest load being browsing Reddit).

I was planning to buy a X1 Carbon then I saw the announcement for X1 Nano and I'm still unsure if I should wait for it. Then I found on this very sub that the keyboard wasn't great on the Nano/Carbon. Browsing on the Lenovo website, I realised that there were Thinkpad from the T serie at 1,2kg. There was also a X serie presumed lighter. Then X1. Then Nano.

Wow, I'm confused.

I was planning to buy a X1 Carbon then I saw the announcement for X1 Nano and I&#39;m still unsure if I should wait for it. Then I found on this very sub that the keyboard wasn&#39;t great on the Nano/Carbon. Browsing on the Lenovo website, I realised that there were Thinkpad from the T serie at 1,2kg. There was also a X serie presumed lighter. Then X1. Then Nano.

Wow, I&#39;m confused.

Do you have any recommendations or any guide? The Lenovo website is very confusing. Still unsure if I should wait for the Nano or not.

This is going to sound extremely picky/negative, but Apple spoiled me, and then pulled the good laptops out from under me, so I'm stuck trying to get the same build quality from PC laptops. My first PC laptop (first in over 5 years) after my MBP broke is an absolute mess, and I hate it. ASUS go die.

I use my laptop for everything, it's the only computer I use, and I have many interests, so I'm being serious when I say I do everything. Even if I haven't done rendering for years, at any point I could get interested in it and try to pick it up out of the blue, so I seriously need the hardware to do *anything*. I'm willing to pay a premium for this, just not willing to get ripped off.

If I can't find a prebuilt laptop, I'm going to make my own from desktop parts, because this is ridiculous. I'm not physically able to use a desktop.

**Thermals?:** Must have fan controls so I can run them at max speed 24/7. Bonus if they can also be controlled from Linux.

Razer Blade 2022 is so close to satisfying this except two of the arrow keys are full-height so I can't use it. I need to be able to use the arrows by touch. This is seriously BS and I don't know why it's so hard for laptop manufacturers to get this right. Apple got it right in 2015 !!!!
