You can answer calls, etc And the very simple 3.5mm jack connections So that's the same between both headphones The 99 classics when I got them came with a longer cable as well a desktop type cable was longer It didn't have the remote control built into it And so I assume that's the change that that Metzor Audio have chosen to make I don't know if it's carried across both models or if it's just different in the neo compared to the classics Other than that everything in terms of the packaging the delivery the accessories is identical between these two headphones Even the actual design of the headphones themselves is essentially the same with obviously the difference of the colorway that you can see here So in the case of the 99 classics, you've got this beautiful mahogany timber cup and that is real timber by the way And then you've got the gold accents in various places in the case of the 99 neo you've got a Plastic cup and that may sound bad initially But plastic can actually have its own benefits in terms of not being particularly resonant and therefore allowing the speaker driver to create the sound Not being reliant on the cup creating any of the sound In addition to that you've also got the silver accent pieces here And other than that everything else is pretty much the same and of course, there's the stamped embossed Name of the headphone there So you've got 99 neo embossed here 99 classics embossed across the top of the classics headband So other than that these are really similar headphones But they are priced a little bit differently on the Mets audio website. They just have a beautiful engaging Sound and it's because that treble has actually been fixed from what's in the classics So to me you're paying $60 less, but you're actually getting a better sounding headphone Looks I'll leave that to you to decide but sound definitely the neo So let's talk a bit about what makes the neo sound so good

 The bass is fantastic from both models and I'd say it's essentially identical There may be slight subtle differences between the two but it's really hard to pick out what that would be So I'm going to say that the bass is identical between both and that means they're both full They're both solid and weighty, but with good decay, so there's not not any bloom or slowness to the bass It's just really solid and impactful the mid-range on the other hand is where things start to get different the mid-range from the 99 classics because of that treble issue that I mentioned and it's a very subtle issue, but for me It's just enough that it creates just a little bit of Edginess or etchedness if you like at the top end of the mid-range from the classics Some people are going to love that because it gives you a sense of extra detail and extra clarity But for me it started to border on to the maybe not fatiguing But it was making me work while I listened a little bit the neo is on the other hand It's just smooth the details there the clarity is there But everything is delivered really smoothly very elegantly, and it just encourages you to want to lap up more and more of the sound Interestingly what I also found was that the soundstage For the neo seems broader and more open and that's unusual when the classics have slightly more treble energy and upper mid-range energy Which is often the thing that gives you a sense of space But what I found when I listened to the two headphones was that by not having the edginess it actually created space It allowed the mid-range to fill a larger space because there wasn't this veil if you like of treble over the top So for me hands down the neo is absolutely the better headphone for mid-range, but that's also about personal taste I love good smooth liquid mid-range, and I'm not a huge fan of etched details I like the details to flow out of the headphone not be pushed out of the headphone Moving on to the treble the story is much the same the neo's treble is detailed It's well articulated. It's clear. It's a little bit polite, but I mean that in a good way It's not rolled off and softened. It's just not edgy

 It hasn't got any Tinniness to the sound whereas I do find the classics have just a little bit of edge that I don't quite enjoy Now in my original review I put that down to the fact that they use a mylar driver And mylar because it distorts as it moves can cause that sound Having said that the neo uses essentially the same driver concept It is a different driver according to specifications the impedances are slightly different So clearly the driver's been reworked, but ultimately it is a mylar driver. It's just producing a better sound hopefully the folks at Mets Audio won't be too upset with me when I say that the $249 neo headphones in my book are actually significantly better than the 99 classics based on my tastes I find the warm clear clean Engaging they get me tapping my foot they get me really looking forward to listening to music And that's what headphones are all about for me the 99 neo's are not an analytical tool You're not going to pull apart the music with them But you are absolutely going to enjoy every detail every nuance and just have the music washing over you in a wonderful way So if you're in the market for a $200 to $400 headphone of a closed design I would absolutely recommend you check out Mets Audio and more than that I would absolutely recommend that you look at the 99 neo The classic is great if you want a bit of extra detail and a bit of extra emphasis on the details But overall I think the neo just hits the mark as balancing detail and musicality in a beautiful enjoyable way If you found this review helpful, please hit the subscribe button and the like button Leave us any comments or questions down below and we look forward to seeing you next time on Passion for Sound

I’ve heard these be called “beats by Meze”, and let me say as a previous owner of studio 3s, they’re nothing alike. When it comes to sound, the beats were super muddy and bass heavy (especially for the price tag). While yes, these mezes have a little bit of bass emphasis, it’s not nearly as much and they do it properly. These mezes are very detailed for the price and listening to some dc the Don where he has tons of instrumental going on with his vocals in certain songs like ghost rider and wait your turn, the vocals are crystal clear and are still in front of everything else. Meanwhile build quality is meze around the globe and back 5 times (beats kept breaking when exchanged). And comfort is insane because of the leatherette headband design spreading the very very little weight evenly and the soft ear pads not being an issue. This probably sounds like I was payed by meze to say all this, but I’m a 15 year old who got these with birthday money. They’re just that good.

Honestly, I bought the Meze 99 Neo and send it back to get a refund. Really bassy headphones, mids sounded muffled to me without EQ, not my cup of tea. 

But hey, if you enjoy them, it's nice! Even if I didn't like the sound of them for music, they sound great for video game/ movies!

Just got my first higher end headphones, I listened to them and almost wanted to cry. Thank you all for getting me thinking about higher quality audio.

Very Good Headset

 That is to say that there's a point where more bass does not equal better sound. This is clearly one of those cases. So, what do I recommend instead? I think the K371 is just about the perfect closed-back headphone. With a caveat or two? Sure, but it's a solid choice and pretty much hits all the marks

5mm to ¼-inch adapter, a soft zippered cable storage pouch, a hard zippered case, instructions, and two Meze audio decals. Comfort is phenomenal and it borrows somewhat from the K702's hammock-style adjustment. The set-it-and-forget-it design feels great on your head, and the clamp force is just right. Headband dig is also minimal and you won't feel it much over extended listening sessions

 But a 10 decibel bass shelf that the Neo boasts? Again, it's just too much. I look at the Neo as I do diminishing returns. That is to say that there's a point where more bass does not equal better sound. This is clearly one of those cases

 So, is the Meze 99 Neo worth it? For that and for everything else I've stated in the article linked below, I can't in good conscience recommend these and won't. As polarizing as the Harman curve seems to be, I genuinely believe the K371 did so many things right and would be your best bet if you're looking for closed-back headphones with more emphasis on the low end. The Neo at $199 is actually pretty fair, all things considered, although I'd probably shave $50 off that. Other than clearly better comfort, there's nothing about it that's any better than an M50X, in my opinion

Before You Buy The Meze 99 Neo, WATCH THIS

As I mentioned, I'm looking to get my gf a pair of closed backs. I personally prefer open backs but she likes the sound isolation because it helps her concentrate more when she is working at her desk, especially if I am gaming next to her. General requirements:

\-Comfortable for long periods of usage

\-Easy to drive, no amp required

\-Don't have to be the greatest sounding, but if it helps she listens to a lot of female vocal music. 

\-Would consider wireless options, but its not a requirement. 

\-Budget at around $200 but humor me if you have more expensive recommendations.

They sound great, they definitely have that bass forward sound meze is known for but for 199 they are quite plasticy and cheapo. Its worth the price jump to get something nicer, like a sundara. I returned.

Hi friends, i have a dillema thats giving me nightmares.

I always had a pair of SuperLux HD330's, i really love them, i like the booming bass that they have. 

For a long time i used them without an amp, then i bought one and i was really happy with the improve in the sound. 

The thing is my HD330's are getting old, so, i bought a QC35 Series I for like 180 usd, but i didn't open them yet, becouse reading a lot of comments, i think they will not satisfy me for the lack of bass the people comment vs other headphones (xm4, for example) I want to return the qc35 because if i try and open the headphones, i can't return them, so, i think i will never know how they sound.

Can you recommend me a pair of closed headphones (non bluetooth) that have a really good bass, crispy highs and nice mids, for like 200 usd? Here in Chile there isn't many options, but im sure something i will find. 

I don't know too much of headphones and audiofidelity so will really appreciate any help that you can give me.

Bass addict need new headphones

 It's punchy, with well-defined transients and has impact without being "boomy." It feels balanced in spite of being very pronounced. The rest of the sound profile is well balanced around the bass -- the lower-mids are open and not recessed, reminding me of the low-mids on higher end Sennheisers. The upper mids and high end are present but warm

 When it vibrates due to getting struck/rubbed against (by a pillow for example), or simply moving your head too much while wearing the headphones, the metal creates a resonance that's a bit annoying. You may not hear this resonance while music is playing, but when the sound is off, you'll hear the metal quite a bit. I wish there was solution to stabilize the metal.  Sound quality is 5/5 relative to the price

 Hi hats, sibilant vocals, etc, are not a problem at higher listening levels. The overall gist is strong bass with warm everything else. Very pleasing to listen to, especially at higher volumes, where other headphones would begin to sound piercing. The soundstage is also nice and wide for closed-back headphones

 The other issues bring these headphones down to 4/5 in my opinion. However, compared to Beyerdynamics and Sennheisers in the $200 or less range, these sound the best if you like a warm, wide, pleasing, bass-accentuated sound.

Sound quality is best in class, though there are some minor issues

The Meze 99 Neo is supposed to sound similar but without the wooden shells and they go for $200. I would easily recommend these. They have a significant mid-bass boost to deliver that solid bass bunch, they're super comfortable, and they sound really good across the frequency range with crispy highs and sweet mids.
