They have made some legendary microphones and I have been mixing on their monitors starting with the KH 120 s for three or four years now and I kind of have a sense of what Neiman audio sounds like.  To make things worse, they extremely recessed in the upper mid range. Which makes for smooth listening enjoyment if you are very sensitive to sibilance, but that’s not what these are marketed for.  The not great: the sound isolation is a double edged sword. It is so effective that it gives me mild claustrophobia - something I’ve never gotten from a pair of headphones

 These also have better isolation than anything I’ve put on my head that doesn’t have active noise cancelling. The one thing I can say these are excellent for is tracking vocals. Amazing isolation.  The not good: the mid range

 So at the end of the day, the Norman Indy H20 is going to get a good review for me because just the clothes back market is so bad. Finding anything that is even remotely acceptable like I said is is pretty big to me they sound pretty decent. They do some things well like I mentioned I like them a lot for Strings but and I like them a lot more on tube. So for you have to have a really, really isolating clothes back for listening to music, I would try to get these on some sort of tube amp but try them on solid state and where I think these are really gonna fall into like the market more

 When I was using these for monitoring I had you know the client for the project that was on there asked what what had phones were those because you know they're flashy and they stay honest. Other Norman they're like oh Norman then you know they know what Norman is. So I think that's really what they're Niches: These have that really fancy brand name because Norman has that name of high-end high-end microphones. High-end monitors

 But to me, if you're in it for actual music, I Would say this is probably their closest competitor would be this or the EMU teks. Now these are kind of more semi open and they do leak a decent amount of sound Where these are very, very isolating. these block out a lot of sound As a good monitoring headphone should, but the X-hundred is a lot more dynamic. It's certainly bass here, and it's also certainly quite a bit brighter

Neumann NDH-20 Review | Fashion Monitors

 Sound is way too closed, frontal, not 3dimensional in any way, lacking in finesse, air and detail. My Beyer DT1990 still provide the BEST (accurate) audition for editing and mixing (and are so more comfortable to wear!) and after this frustrating audition with the Neumanns, I definitely cherish the Beyers even more. If anything changes in the next couple days, I will update this review.

 I already use a pair of Beyer DT1990 when traveling, and thought a second "pair of ears" would be great for reference. I read on several threads the cans were very close to the sound the KH monitors provided, in a headphone version. Got them yesterday and have been letting them burn at low to mid volume before trying them this afternoon. As for now, I am extremely disappointed with their sound; they are not close to the Neumann KH310 monitors in any way

 The First thing: I Think we should do is say you know what do you want in headphone, like what do you like about your headphones. Well I want them to sound good, well everybody wants everything to sound good, what does that mean, right,? uh, the frequency response of this and all that and you can get in to a lot of technical jargon, I'm not going to do that, but I am going to touch on some key specific points about the technicality about different frequencies in headphones, how they relate,, how they respond as they're on your head, open back headphones versus closed back headphones. So Stay with me for a minute but before we go to all of that, I'm going to tell you what I've been using that are awesome and I mean awesome. These are the NDH 20s by Neumann and I'm going to, I'm going to discuss why these are so cool

 So If you've noticed for you singers out there, you've got headphones on and you're going,. my pitch royally sucks right now. I For some reason, I can scream and sing high and kind of get pitch in the upper register, but or or I'm flat as heck. You know when I'm singing up because I can't hear myself, one or the other right? and then when I get into lower registers, I just can't hear myself

 I Have tried this in a lot of listening environments with a lot of different musicians and closed back. NDH 20 Neumanns Rock. Alright gang, until next time God Bless you all, Peace out.

What Headphones I Use And Why - Neumann NDH 20 - Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy

I know this sounds insane. It is indeed insane.  
But it is also very true IMHO. This will get me disliked, haha. :D  


So a couple of days ago my new Neumann NDH-20 arrived. I listened to around 100 different songs, that I know very well. In high quality, and compared it with other headphones of mine (Beyerdynamic 770 Pro for example.) and my KRK VXT8 speakers. But most of all I was astonished that my Superlux Evo 681 sounded better.  


Are you serious? Yes I am.  
The Neumann's cost more than ten times the money the Superlux from Thomann do.   


But first of all how are the Neumann's themselves? Well everything is nice outside of the sound itself (maybe only the cable on the right side is a bit annoying for everyone who is right-handed especially. Why would Neumann place the cable on the right side of the headphones? Nobody does that :D).   
The sound of the Neumann's is very bass heavy. I normally like this, but the bass covers up parts of the low mids. Also the low mids themselves are a bit too dominant, and yes on even famous songs and popular mixes from all kinds of genres. Additionally the very high topend (from 9kHz and above) is just so low in volume, it is awkward. Also the vocals are really too far in the background for many many songs.  So all in all I would say the Neumann muddy up all mixes and depict a kind of false image of the reference mixes (I know linear headphones don't really exist though).

Let's continue with the Superlux Evo 681. They are insanely cheap. The funny thing is they are also incredibly good. Overall such a nice and clear sound, without anything muddying up, while reproducing the bass quite comfortably and definitely audible enough for all kinds of basslines pumping in the background (even on bass-poor songs). The low-mids are kind of cleaned up, or at least not cluttered up like on the neumann's. Also the top end is definitely present. Even the highest topend is audible enough (10khz and above). Furthermore the 681's have a bump around 1-2kHz which is helpful for understanding the vocals (intelligibility). The total opposite for the Neumann's. They have a valley around 1kHz. This decreases the vocal intelligibility as mentioned above, audible so independent of the visual graph. But the graph of the Neumann only confirms this.

What’s considered neutral vs revealing vs a monitoring headphone is pretty muddled. One of the most prolific studio monitors is the Sony MDR-7506. Thery’re everywhere, audio engineers swear by them, but if you look at the FR graph, they are by no means neutral. Usually when something’s a good monitoring headphone, it more means the mids and treble are pushed so you can hear any flaws in the track so you can find hissing, or random noises in a room if you’re doing recording for a film set or something. Then that sort of became accepted that what those headphones set out to do is “neutral” when they really aren’t neutral, and it muddies the conversation.

Edit: Also, Z for a time was banned from /r/headphones,  and  I’ve  always  watched  more  for  entertainment  than  for  reviews  that  are  informative,  Josh  Valour  I  have   more  respect  for  as  a  reviewer,  but  I’ve  also  disagreed  with  him  in  a  few  spots.  That’s  sort  of  a  problem  with  this whole  hobby,  it’s  extremely  subjective.  Some  people  swear  Grado  makes  honest  neutral  headphones,  I  find  them  insanely  unpleasant with  extreme  upper  mids  and  treble  up  and  down  the  product  line.  Realistically,  steer  away  from  how  a  reviewer  tries  to  quantify  the  headphone  and  find  reviewers  with  an  ear  that  loves  headphones  you  already  know  you  love.  That  way  when  they  land  on  a  headphone  that  they  rave  about,  you’ll  know  it  should  at  least  be  on  your  radar.

About me : I've been an audio mixing and music producer hobbyist for about 10 years, with some years of training listening to EQs and compressors. I'm also a budget-oriented audiophile. So far I've been following headphone review channels like Zeos, Joshua Valour, etc because I have a passion for pure sound and always look for an upgrade from my current SR850, HD518 etc \[all of which need surgical eq\]. I was so far of the impression that the headphone reviews from these channels were trustworthy and that they know what they are talking about. That changed recently after watching this channel called oluv's gadget. I found out that many of the characteristics they describe about headphones are not true at all. One such example is the Drop Ether CX. Joshua calls them 'brutally honest and master monitors'. Zeos has great things to say about them too. But watch this video below and you will see that the Ether CX is just far away from being a monitoring headphone, nor does it justify its price of 900$. The tonality is absolutely horrible. I am shocked! This makes me question many of the other reviews from these channels. Do they actually know what they are talking about? Are they just getting paid to glorify these headphones? It blows my mind that the headphone manufacturers can't tune a hi-end headphone properly. Even the Etymotic ER4XR sounds far more tonally correct than the very expensive and overhyped LCD i4. What is going on?

<div class="md"><p>About me : I&#39;ve been an audio mixing and music producer hobbyist for about 10 years, with some years of training listening to EQs and compressors. I&#39;m also a budget-oriented audiophile. So far I&#39;ve been following headphone review channels like Zeos, Joshua Valour, etc because I have a passion for pure sound and always look for an upgrade from my current SR850, HD518 etc [all of which need surgical eq]. I was so far of the impression that the headphone reviews from these channels were trustworthy and that they know what they are talking about. That changed recently after watching this channel called oluv&#39;s gadget. I found out that many of the characteristics they describe about headphones are not true at all. One such example is the Drop Ether CX. Joshua calls them &#39;brutally honest and master monitors&#39;. Zeos has great things to say about them too. But watch this video below and you will see that the Ether CX is just far away from being a monitoring headphone, nor does it justify its price of 900$. The tonality is absolutely horrible. I am shocked! This makes me question many of the other reviews from these channels. Do they actually know what they are talking about? Are they just getting paid to glorify these headphones?
