 Some people say over at Nikon that the reason they did that is, they got a lot of feedback that people said they wanted the focus ring inside and the zoom on the outside, and that still makes no sense to me. I'Ve gotten used to the fact that my brain has to compute that this is the zoom, and this is the focus. The issue is, when I put the 24 to 70 on right after using the 70 to 200, my hand reaches out to the end of the barrel, and I hit the focus before I actually do this zoom. But why do I hate this lens? It'S because I am no longer as stable as I once was when I was zooming or moving and trying to capture a subject or the subject is moving and I'm trying to capture that old lens picking it up right now

 So now you zoom on the outside and you focus on the inside. I am NOT a fan of this. I wasn't a fan of it when they announced it, but of course this lens is so darn good that it's not a reason not to buy it. Now

 If I bring it in like this, I can move and zoom at the same time, if the zoom ring was right here, the other problem is when you go vertical. You go vertical like this. I'M losing a point of contact over here when I try to use this jog dial, so I'm creating less stability as I'm moving, and you can see that with these photos popping up Fergie's walking on stage, I can't get good composition even when she started to stand Still because I am struggling and fighting because everything is shaky because nothing is really attached, so I'm having trouble keeping this balanced, because I can't tuck my elbows in when this arm goes out to the end like this. It'S now further away from my body, causing it to be less stable, and then I start shaking with the lens, and it's in it's hurting my composition

Why I HATE the NIKON 70-200 2.8 FL (1 Year Review)

Underperforming zooms often drop in quality at the telephoto extreme. That is not the case with the 70-200mm f/2.8E. It notches 3,218 lines at 200mm f/2

  * AF-S 85mm f/1.8 : I use this most of the time for adult portraits and it has very good low light performance as well. I choose this over the f/1.4 version because the other reviews I've read on the web did not justify the extra $1000 spend for marginal performance improvement and unless I am getting paid to take pictures all the time, I don't see the need to pay the extra cost for the f/1

8: I use this when I just don't know what kind of pictures I could be taking and need to have zoom & I don't have to move around as much. While I don't take landscape pictures (24mm) often, I will use this for a large group outing, birthday parties when I may need to get a wide shot of a lot of people in a room and be able to have a little bit of zoom capability and not have to walk up so close to the people's face. This allows me to get some candid shots when needed. It's fairly heavy at 2 lbs and huge when you put on the hood so I almost never use this lens when I'm on the street because it attracts a lot of unwanted attention

 This is obviously a monster lens so I avoid taking it for street photos even though I've had some nice pictures and experiences on the street but it's so big... I've had people stopping me asking me if I'm a paparazzi and which celebrity I am stalking

 More later when I add some images for your review.  I've shot with Nikon digital cameras since the Cool Pix 775 almost 20 years ago. I currently shoot with the D300 and find the lens so good to work with on the camera. The final straw in making the decision to go with the NIKKOR was the quality emphasized among the reviewers and that the lens performs better in the APS-C sensor world

I did a fair amount of research on this lense before I made the investment, on both consumer and professional boards. My use application - photographing leaping dancers on a dim stage from the back of a high-school-sized auditorium - was beyond the capability of my prior lens, and I was tired of trading off blurry against dim/grainy. This lens is compatible with my Nikon camera body and I needed both the 200mm and f2.8, so it emerged as the best choice for me

This marvelous new-generation Nikon 70-200MM F2.8 VR II (Vibration Reduction) “Trinity” Tele-Zoom works flawlessly with our Nikon cameras (D800, D3200, D300S). Auto focus is very fast; at mid to far distances, auto focus is literally immediate; at closer distances, it quickly follows, searches and obeys where I want to focus on and with a whispering sound locks the focus with the subject tack sharp in the viewfinder (or Live View). Auto-Focus fine tuning is also dead-on at 0 (no variation) with our D800 and D300S (the D3200 does not have this fine-tuning capability)

 It is incredible to see pictures having virtually fault-less sharpness, contrast, color depth and vibrancy with this Tele-Zoom, which leaves our Sigma 70-200MM F/2.8 APO DG HSM in the dust in every aspect (oh well, the Sigma is less than half the cost), when viewing at actual-pixel magnifications with Photoshop CS6 and ViewNX 2. For example, the tiny reproductive parts of Hibiscus flowers - the yellow stamens and the red pistils – the tiny “hairs” on the stems, and the tiny “veins” of the petals with very subtle color changes, all came out clean and clear within pictures of the whole flowers taken more than six feet away. In comparison with our other Nikon “Trinity” Zoom 24-700MM F

 For example, I would take a picture of our daughter in the backyard posing. My daughter is so sharp (I focused on her), that it looked 3D. To quote my wife, she said that it looks like a picture of our backyard, and I just cut a picture of my daughter and pasted it onto another picture of our backyard. That's how sharp this lens is!  I bit the bullet and purchased this. When I initially received it, I was a bit worried about the size and weight of the lens. However, when I started taking pictures, I could tell even on my D800 screen, zoom in, that this lens is incredibly sharp! When loaded onto my 27" apple monitor, the pictures pop out like 3D. My wife, who was initially not too happy with this expensive purchase, changed her mind immediately when she saw the pictures

 From my seat, I could barely find where my daughter was. However, putting this on the D800 and videotaping at 1.5crop gives an actual video image of 300mm. The video looks no different that you would find on a blu ray video! That's how sharp the video looked! Again, the only negative about this lens is its weight and size, but you will forget all of this once you start taking pictures or videos and see the quality of the photo or video

WOW! Incredible Sharpness.

 If you can not afford one right now, save your money and wait until you can.  Yes it is heavy, but so are other lenses in this class. (You can buy a monopod for $20 if you don't like arm workouts.)  Yes it is expensive, but think of it as a solid investment that will hold its value for years to come

 My only regret is that I did not step up and buy one of these lenses sooner. If you shoot action/sports in low light, this is your lens. If you can not afford one right now, save your money and wait until you can.  Yes it is heavy, but so are other lenses in this class

 The VR II 'seems' faster to auto-focus, but towards the end of my VR I's reign, it was pretty beat up so the difference could just be the fact that the VR II was fresh out of the box...  Q: Now that you've spent the ~$2400 on this lens, can you comment if it was "worth it"? A: I'm a gear-head

Reviews like this are generally tough to find useful things. Great Lens

 The details are awesome, colors are saturated. This lens, my 24-70, and a fast medium tele, like the 85 or 105 micro for those who lean toward nature rather than people, are all the Nikon shooter really needs.  Is it worth the extra money if you have only DX? Probably not. But if you shoot FX, go for it

 I got along using a 180 f/2.8 for about 18 months, then finally decided to bit the bullet. I sold off some lighting gear to pay the difference and got the lens just in time for a trip.  The images are way better than I ones I got from the previous version

When I bought the 70-200 VRI six years ago, I figured it would be a once-in-a-lifetime investment. Then the D700 came along, and that lens that did so well on the D2Hs didn't deliver such a hot performance on the D700. Corners were mushy, even stopped down. The slight vignetting did not bother me, but the sharpness issue did
