 My rather large ears fit completely inside both the Philips headphones with room to spare. Additionally, both of the Philips units have a more open-back design than the Samson, rendering them cooler for the ears during long listening sessions.  The other minus for the Samson is the long, non-detachable headphone cord. A shorter fixed cord with an extension cable would have been preferable

 The SR850s earcups lie *on* my ears, not around them, as do the 9500 and 9600. The Samson's velour pads are soft, but my ears heat up rather quickly, and over time the pressure of the pads create sore spots. I wanted to expand my headphone collection, particularly those of open-back design, so I purchased the Samson SR850 based on the number of positive reviews. As others have noted, the construction is not the most robust, but it's fine for mostly at-home use. More On-Ear Than Off

 These actually sound like studio headphones should sound. Build Quality: They are very well built. However, as mentioned above, there was a solder defect with one of the wires from the cable.  Overall I really like these headphones, otherwise I wouldn't have taken the time to disassemble them and fix them

 If I was only rating them on sound quality they would get 5 stars. Comfort could be a bit better. A detachable cable would also be a huge improvement.

These headphones are some of the best I’ve ever owned in terms of sound quality but as many have said, the audio on one side will eventually go out on you.  Mine gave out in a little over two years and I took extremely good care of these headphones.  It seems like this is a defect that eventually affects everyone and because of that I can’t recommend these headphones unless you’re looking for a temporary solution.  If you’re looking for headphones that will last, look elsewhere

Thought They Would Be Better

 Of course this is totally understandable; for such a low price they had to cut costs somewhere. In spite of that, they feel sturdy enough and I don't get the impression that they'll fall apart any time soon. I must say, though, from a purely aesthetic view they look completely unimpressive; bog standard black on grey tones, nothing really interesting about their looks whatsoever. Also they look a little big when worn, but that's what you get with studio headphones, so it's not really fair to hold that against them

 As for comfort, the self-adjusting strap works great, and the ear pads are nice and soft. They easily fit around my relatively large ears, and they hold their position on my head nicely without squeezing too hard. They do start to hurt my temples a bit after about an hour of wearing them, but I'm pretty sensitive to that kind of thing so it's true for most headphones on me. Honestly, an hour before I start to feel irritation is better than most

  Overall, I am happy with my purchase, I would buy these again. They reproduce sound very well, and they are comfortable as far as over-ear headphones go. Looks-wise, they are very plain, and the build quality is only slightly above average, but they are definitely worth the price you pay for them. Four stars

 I let these play for about 20 hours straight in their own box at moderate volume. That seems to have smoothed out the upper mids a bit while making the bass a little better. But I still use the EQ function on my phone with a slight 60hz bass boost and 8khz attenuated slighty. Yes, soundstaging is superior to closed back designs and even with a slight attenuation on 8khz they still have better detail than my bluetooth headphones (Edifier W830BT)

These are a good bargain

These open backed headphones sound like a lot of items in the $100 price point for a fraction of the cost. Bass is rich and not overpowering, mid are pronounced and don't get lost in the bass, and the high ends sparkle through in most songs. They don't bleed noise or let as much sound in as other open backs I've listened to, which is great for my wife who doesn't want to listen to "One Winged Angel" as often as I do, but that does slightly reduce the soundstage.  My GOD are these comfortable

I’ve owned and used this product for little over a year now. I’ve use it everyday for hours at a time while on my pc. I use it for everything from watching content, to playing games, to listening to music and is still going like I had bought it yesterday. The semi-open back provides and more open feeling sound compared to closed back headphones while still giving a nice warm sound that I personally enjoy

 The weight and self-adjusting head strap make them easy to put on and allows them to stay comfortable for as long as you need to wear them. The shape of the ear cups does require me to adjust the headphones after an hour or two if I don’t hit that sweet spot due to them not fitting my ears exactly, with them also being open back there is a good amount of sound leakage and not any noise cancellation other than having some form of audio playing. The build quality might feel a little on the cheap side at first, but they are still holding up a year later and the materials used allow it to be as light as it is. I will continue using these headphones for the foreseeable future and would recommend these headphones for anyone looking for good, reliable, everyday use headphone that won’t break the bank

Great for the Price!

 The audio quality is great, and while they do feel kind of like cheap plastic, what do you expect at this price point?  My only issue is the ear muffs and my ears. I start to feel fatigued about half an hour after wearing them, which really sucks because they really do sound good. The ear muffs are completely round circles, and my head and ears are kinda big, so maybe they just weren't built for someone like me in mind.

I am not an audiophile, so I have no base reference for what a good set of headphones should be (besides my 3 year old Corsair wireless gaming headphones, which are legit amazing). Brought them because I wanted a good, budget pair of open back headphones to better enjoy my music with.
