 We also like the fact that it stands up on its own and we also like its very large dustbin. Moving on to what we dislike about this vacuum: The Freestyle doesn't deep clean very well and it also cannot be used as a hand vacuum. Though both of these negatives are not deal breakers by any means, this Shark is after all, a very inexpensive cordless vacuum. What is a deal breaker is the vacuum failing our filtration and sealing test

 The most inexpensive cordless vacuums that we do recommend are not quite as inexpensive as a Shark Navigator Freestyle, but they do pass our filtration and sealing test. They also deep clean much better and they also can be used as handheld vacuums.  Though both of these negatives are not deal breakers by any means, this Shark is after all, a very inexpensive cordless vacuum. What is a deal breaker is the vacuum failing our filtration and sealing test. Its performance in this test demonstrates that much of the debris that it picks up, specifically finer debris it puts out right back into the air in the same room where it is actually picking up the debris and that airborne debris will eventually find its way right back onto the carpet or hard floor where you picked it up to begin with. Shark Navigator Freestyle SV1106 Review

I sucked a bag into my Shark’s brush roll, and it has stopped working. Took it to a local shop
and they are telling me that it is due to a circuit board frying out and that it can’t be fixed. His claim is that these vacuums are not manufactured to be repaired. Has anyone had any experience with this? Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Thanks. I’ve learned a lot about the vacuum industry today. I’m going to look into the vacs he sells as he is willing to take the Shark in trade, and consider it a lesson learned.

Am I being scammed?

If one doesn't ever have to vacuum dried grass, pet hair, or tracked-in leaves, this is a good vacuum. Otherwise, I would recommend looking at others.

 Last Fall, I had to take apart the vacuum and unclog it multiple times a week because it would clog itself with leaves or the combo of long pet hair and leaves. I believe the problem is a lack of power. Shark customer support only solution was to keep the vacuum's tubing clean - which did not resolve the problem long-term.

 so you put that in there and then you just sure that up to be tight. This will just snap right into place. you can see to remove that just snaps and then if you want to take it off and just press this button and then pull it up, you want to line up the arrows and it'll go in there. If you don't do that, the plug won't go in and then this just fits nicely on there and then you'll know it's charging because they'll start blinking

 Had a Shark IQ and it was terrible. Constantly got "stuck" in the middle of a hardwood floor, constantly got lost, and the companion app is a steaming pile of dog shit. Ditch it and get a Roomba or any other highly rated robot vac.

How do I stop this from happening?

Okay, this is a great cordless vacuum and as someone with more than one cat I use it everyday. the interesting thing is that unlike my previous one (same model) the on/off switch is changed, which is good as that is what broke on my old one. the problem is that with the old one the big bright blue lights lit up when charging and then went off completely when done. In their infinite wisdom the company decided that instead of no light when charged they should have the blue light flash when it is charged

if it ain't broke, let's make it worse

Shark is solid. Had mine 5+ years. If you're going cordless, just do your research as they usually have less power than the corded models.

I've been wanting Dysons.  Had a powerful model, but I just didn't need that particular unit - I'm a bachelor in a studio, so technically I don't even need a vacuum, but I would feel bizarre without having suction power for my cleaning needs.  

Been thinking about that Shark Cordless (seems cheaper than Dyson cordless).

And Black Friday is coming right up, so I'm mildly lucky.

Any thoughts, community?

Anybody got a good recommendation for a vacuum that won't fall apart in a few years?

 the battery died. Twice since we tried using it for more than 15 minutes with the same result. So it barely holds up for a quick once-over of the high traffic areas in our 800 square foot living room.

This is a light and handy vacuum for light-medium duty carpet cleaning. We still use our heavier upright for occasional deeper cleaning. This shark is fine for a quick surface cleaning before guests arise. It's also more effective than the heavier machine for getting into nooks and crannies

  However, the version we received had the Ni-MH battery supposedly good for 40 minutes. The first time we tried to use it for more than 15 minutes, unfortunately this was after the return date. the battery died. Twice since we tried using it for more than 15 minutes with the same result

Be sure you get the lithium battery version !!!!!!!!!

I have had it with pulling hair out by hand and having dust and dander go everywhere. Short answer: I think a Shark is a perfectly fine short term (1-4 years) vacuum for regular pickup in a low-fur household.

I’ve already completed the purchase of a Shark NV391C, or the overly long name “Navigator Lift-Away Pro blah blah”. It cost me $150 Canadian. I thought to myself “Dyson is all marketing fluff, I’m sure this mid-priced shark on clearance is just as good for way better value”. I didn’t know at the time Shark was just as hated. 

I haven’t yet opened it so could still technically return it, my question is is it worthwhile to do so? I’m not sure if when people say Shark is terrible if they mean it’s not a good investment; or if it’s absolutely unusable. I am renting a small home, I don’t need much. I previously used a broken (as in flung large chunks of dirt out the back) Bissell upright I got from Kijiji (like Craigslist) for $40. If this Vacuum sucks the floor well enough for a single male for 2 years, I’ll be happy. 

The price I got it at, I don’t imagine there’s much better personally. There’s cheap $50 Bissell “bagless canister” vacs I have to imagine don’t have any suction (or even worse their “featherweight” stick vac for $30). I think the BEST two I can get based on recommendation from older posts are Hoover UH71106 or UH72405 for the same price. These are discounted way less but maybe that’s meaningless. 

All this to ask - is it worth a significant hassle to return this Shark and buy a different bottom line cheap vac, or for the price will it serve me well until I’ve moved up in life a bit and replace it with a Miele or Central Vac in my own home. (1-3 years, graduated uni and waiting to settle on longer term plans). Single male, maybe a cat. I don’t like mess but am not a clean freak. I wouldn’t be willing to spend more than $200 canadian really. The “Sub $150” Hoover mentioned in FAQ is $250 for me, and I simply don’t believe its teice as good as the shark
