 But given that Stone Cold Crazy isn't the best recording, I decided to try some more tracks and another one that stood out to me was Emotional Storm by Avishai Cohen. Avishai Cohen is a double bass player and in this particular recording he's playing with a full orchestra and starting off again now with the 99 neos, the sound was lovely and full and rich and this goes to show where the tuning of the 99 neos can sometimes be magical and can sometimes go too far like in the previous example. In this situation, the 99 neos sounded wonderful with that full orchestral body and weight, the double bass was in there as well with a good sense of richness and drive and kind of rhythm to it but I was aware that the bass was still getting a bit flabby from the 99 neos, that's just the way they're tuned and then moving across to the Orioles, it took all those things that were good from the 99 neos and just made them all better, it better controlled the bass, it better defined and gave clarity to the percussion in the track and the orchestra still has plenty of body and weight to it but none of the flab and so what you're getting with the Orioles is all of that sense of body and presence and that deep bass foundation that the music needs but by cutting back as severely as it does in the mid bass, it prevents the bloat, it prevents that flabbiness or that wooliness and it means you can hear all the nuances, the textures and the details and so on a track like this, I wasn't finding there was too much harshness if any from the Orioles and so their tuning became a perfect match with a track like Emotional Storm and so where all this left me was that I think now the Orioles are going to be my preference, my go to closed back headphone over the 99 neos, it's a shame that I don't have the 99 classics here anymore to compare them to the Orioles because that might have been a closer battle but I think the Orioles are doing a wonderful, wonderful job and so for me they're a headphone that I'm going to really comfortably recommend, it does come with a caveat that they're not 100% natural but neither are any closed backs that I've tried so far, there isn't a single closed back on the planet that I think gets it just right because they're all making compromises to deal with the internal reflections of the drivers inside the cups and try to make them sound more open than they can possibly be when you've got a cup around your ears and so I think the Orioles are doing a fantastic job at the price point in the closed back market and for me they're a very easy recommendation, there's not really a genre that I threw at them that they didn't handle well and there's slight areas of unnaturalness in the sound and things that your brain and your ears kind of adjust to pretty quickly. So I'd say that if you're in the market for closed back headphone under $200 or up to $200, definitely check out the Sivga Orioles, if you're not a fan of the colourway here they do come in the black as well but whichever one you buy, one thing that I will say you're going to get is a really nice clean but punchy and dynamic sound and so hopefully this review has clarified for you which of the closed back headphones on the market under that $200 mark might be right for you, the Robins are still great, the BL30s still have their own uniqueness but for me the Orioles sit at the top with the Meza99 Neo sitting just behind in terms of the best closed back headphones that I've currently got or tried

 I might manage to displace the slightly more expensive Mezza 99 Neo's for me in terms of overall sound quality, but they're a really nice headphone for sure. And so when Sivga reached out to me and asked me to take a look at the Orioles, I was keen to hear if the extra $20 USD that you're paying, and by the way these come in at $199 USD, I was curious to see if that extra $20 USD over and above the Robins was worth the money. And so let's dive in now to see if the Orioles are different enough for both models to sit side by side, or to see if the Orioles are just a better headphone and the one that you should consider buying if you're in the market around that $200 USD mark. As I've already said, the Orioles come in at $199 USD, making them just $20 more than the Robins

 And other than the pricing similarities, there are some other similarities too. What I've got here are the brown version of the Orioles, but you can also get them with dark timber and black leather if you're interested in a different colourway. And so as I said on that neutral setup, the Orioles could get a bit harsh in some of the snares and cymbals and things like that, but everything else in the percussion, everything else in the drum kit sounded so much better. As I listened to things like the kick bass through the toms, all the way up through the snares where it did start to get a bit rough, but everything else before that just sounded more right from the Orioles, there was a good sense of thump and kick from the kick bass, there was a good sense of body and weight behind the toms, but they didn't get loose, they didn't get wooly and so for me on a track like Stone Cold Crazy, I would take the Orioles over the 99 neos because even though they do get a bit harsh at the upper end, everything else just sounds so good and it just means pulling back a little tiny bit on the volume or even using an EQ just to pull back on the 10kHz a little bit and maybe the 2-3kHz if you're sensitive there

Sivga Oriole Headphones - A great closed back for under $200

 I am not technically savy but the sound is very analog in other like playing vinyl on a high end sytrm. Both Meze Pro 109 plus Sivga and Oriole are winners for 2022.

 The highs and mids are perfection to my ears. The soundstage will expend in and out throught the track. My favorite over Focal Clear, Sivga 023. The Oriole delivers a souund that will wake up all your music catalog and some

Absolutely the most clinical and transparent in sound cans I have ever heard. The tunning on these cans arw magical especially the sub bass that doesn't drown out the music. The highs and mids are perfection to my ears. The soundstage will expend in and out throught the track

Sivga Endgame..Let the music play!

 Treble is also pretty fun, it's slightly accented but not too much, if you are super sensitive to treble there could be a bit too bright for you, but I don't think that it will be the case for vast majority of listeners, expect of that young people who can hear up to 22kHz. So pretty good extension, not the maximum but above average, some basic traces of layering, but really basic, but it's probably maximum we can expect in this tire. And at the same time really really good saturation with overtones and really nice airness, so treble sounds spacious, well defined, energetic, highlighted, giving you that shimmer and overall spark. And as a first example it's Freddy Freeloader by Miles Davis, like one of the best records in the history of jazz and of course trumpet goes to the treble area noticeably and a lot of different percussions and so on and these headphones play not to 100% but pretty nicely

 And two models closed back that I reviewed recently, it's Beyerdynamics and Austrian Audio, they are actually more monitoring, less accenting low frequencies, this model is bit more fun to listen. So if you looking for something to enjoy the music but at the same time you want it more or less technical but not too monitoring, new Sivga's creation is a really great option to consider both in terms of sound and in terms of overall design and stuff.  Unfortunately their last albums are not perfect in terms of recording and mastering, but this track is nevertheless impressive, so first part is typical Nightwish of last years and subjectively I'm a fan of Flor Jansen, I think she is the best vocalist for Nightwish and I don't like Tarja, so I don't think there is some sense in arguing with me, it's just my subjective taste, but in this track what I really like is that Holopainen decided to write the part to highlight vocal and at the last third of this track all are getting what fans call Flor Jansen, because operatic vocal is out of this world, but pretty impressive for heavy metal band and orchestral part, pathetic, powerful and these headphones deliver it pretty nicely with good spaciousness, so really enjoyable section. And second example like Absolute Classics, it's Queen, in Uendo you probably understand why it's here, lot of instruments, guitars, flamenco part, that gloom and dark introduction, Freddy's Walk a lot of great things to admire in this one single track, true masterpiece and these headphones deliver it pretty well. Treble is also pretty fun, it's slightly accented but not too much, if you are super sensitive to treble there could be a bit too bright for you, but I don't think that it will be the case for vast majority of listeners, expect of that young people who can hear up to 22kHz.  And the last example, it's probably a singer that we can't go without, it's sting and track Fragile and if you listening to my reviews in the past you understand why sting is here because his musicians are masters of different percussions and especially it's noticeable at the beginning of this track, it's really really like building tension before the main part, all that metal tinkling in the upper frequencies and appearing and disappearing gentle bass, keyboard part, all of that is done absolutely masterfully, but taking into account level of musicians that helped sting with recordings it's not surprising, but still super pleasant and these headphones deliver it pretty well. In terms of pairing they don't require something powerful but definitely will benefit from something with good control that can unveil their best sides, so at least consider some digital tonal converter and probably not the cheapest one because it's really noticeable scale with the source, of course something like $1000 or more will be a bit overhead for them, but anyway it still sounds really great. Speaking about the comparisons, you know just few models to mention, first is Sivga's Robin, they actually have more veiled bass, it's bit more weighty and bit softer so here you'll get noticeably better definition in the low frequencies with more nuances and overtones and that changes overall perception of the model to be like more high-end, more refined, more clean, so noticeably good upgrade at least for me to my taste. And Mesa99 like they are more warmer, they have more weighty bass and it's really different representation, this model is more on the natural side of things

Sivga Oriole headphones review — even better than I've expected

 The mids make up for that “lack” in the upper end, and one can pretty much forgive the lower mids thinness. Add in a treble, which give good sparkle and adds air to the notes along with the soundstage width and this makes for a very good presentation. This lies just south of the fun line, into a more mature tune; but not as mature as previous Sivga models. I find this signature a refreshing new model from Sivga as a result

Summary: The Oriole comes across with a good grunt down low but is a little loose. Slightly forward in the signature without becoming harsh or grating shows a good resolution.

   Soundstage is expansive in the width giving very good separation, and adequate (not small or shallow) height allow for good instrumentation. Depth to me is average, which gives the overall stage a bit of intimacy, but still among the better closed-back headphones at this price. The spatial awareness of the sound signature still allows you to clearly pick out separation of instruments, and as a result; good air to the notes, without giving up weight.

 Detail retrieval is pretty good at this price point. It's nowhere near as good as the Sundara's but it's easily better than the Meze's which I thought sounded just a little bit gauzy. So the technicalities are surprisingly good. I also really like the frequency response

 The fact that they look absolutely stunning and feel so comfortable to wear just adds to their appeal. So yes the Orioles have been a really pleasant surprise for me and I'm happy to hand them a very rare audio fixation gold award. They have been an unexpected treat and I'm very grateful to Civga for sending them to me for evaluation. They haven't paid me for the review, they haven't inspected the contents of the review, they're seeing at the same time as you and they haven't sponsored the video

 I tested the Orioles with the stock cable and also with the balanced 4.4mm cable from the SV023s through my Fio M11 Plus ESS version. Now these are pretty easy to drive with an impedance of only 32 ohms and a high sensitivity so you could easily power them from your iPhone dongle for example. Now they are incredibly comfortable to wear

 There is generous memory foam padding across the headband and the earcups are beautifully cushioned again with memory foam. They feel quite light and the clamping force isn't high at all. Listening to Radiohead's In Rainbows album there was a very clear soundstage and the percussion in particular on Reckoner was presented with pinpoint precision. Instrument separation particularly in the upper mid-range is really good with percussion once again being very distinct in the mix
