The soundstage is good enough for a closed-back, and I don't feel claustrophobic using it. Not to mention being super easy to drive, give me the conclusion that this headphone is as close as Fire and Forget headphone for me. You don't need to hassle with anything and you're guaranteed at least a serviceable degree of sound quality for your ear.

Finally decided to buy this guy after searching for a cheap closed-back headphone for a while, after contemplating between Takstar Pro 82 (or its descendant MH751), Yamaha MT-5, M40x, and SRH440. First impression: Fire and Forget. 

Being something so close to Harman target is no joke. I used to always EQ my headphone close to Harman Target, and this one is close enough that I was compelled to not EQ it at all.

Is it good? well as far as my newb ear is concerned, it is good, at least better than my SHP9500 without EQ, though IMO still slightly lacking vs HE400SE, especially the mids which is a kinda little bit hollow. The soundstage is good enough for a closed-back, and I don't feel claustrophobic using it.

AKG K361: The Fire and Forget Budget Closed Back

 However, within the same budget range grouping as the Takstar, there are several headphones that I clearly and most strongly recommend for musical accuracy (with all types of music).  Philips SHP 9500 (with or without upgraded pads) - sound even better with upgraded pads Brainwavz HM5 (stock pads are perfect) Drop + HIFIMAN HE-35X (with or without upgraded pads) Status Audio CB-1's (with a specific updated set of pads).  Look - I don't want to be "Debbie Downer" here -- but I have to call them as I see them. I don't see what all the hype is about with the Takstar Pro 82's (and I was soooo hoping to like them)

 Depending on what you are listening to, in particular larger orchestras such classical, big band, or other numerous instrument ensembles, you will soon come to notice coloration in many of the lower midrange instruments such as french horns, trumpets, trombones, and with strings such as violins and violas. With some performances, the sound may actually sound "hollow," "constricted," "tinny," or have audio qualities like you are listening to the music through a tunnel.  Now normally, I would find (in 8 out of 10 cases) that upgrading to a good (better) set of ear-pads, would help substantially. But this wasn't the case at all with the Pro 82's

" If you are a critical listener and your aim is to have a set of headphones that conveys music both accurately and realistically with musicality, then the Pro 82's will NOT be for you. You see, although the Pro 82's sound good upon first hearing, critical listeners will soon find that the tonal responses or timbre of certain instruments, are not accurate at all. In fact, they are colored. Sometimes this coloration is only slightly discernible, while other times it is quite obvious

  Look - I don't want to be "Debbie Downer" here -- but I have to call them as I see them. I don't see what all the hype is about with the Takstar Pro 82's (and I was soooo hoping to like them). Yes, they can sound halfway decent (depending on source material) and they may be some of the most comfortable headphones on the market. But if you are a critical listener, or if your music listening standards are a cut above, then the Pro 82's may (will) NOT be what you're looking for

Currently looking for budget open/closed back over ear headphone

 The sound is pretty flat, not dynamic. You can up the bass with the side buttons. I wouldn’t consider this reference flat, just not exciting. But its good for working on video our podcasting

Decent headphones, good for extra cheap studio equipment.

At a similar price point to the headsets you've mentioned, I'd recommend the TakStar Pro 82 or AKG K361. They actually focus on audio quality instead of fancy looks and bogus marketing, ensuring you get your money's worth.

2. Razer blackshark v2X - ₹7100

Budget is around ₹7k ($50~60)

Good headphone for gaming

although these have very accuracy, the mids are still a bit recessed, and the treble is a bit too loud. other than the phillips shp's, however, these cannot be beaten at this price point.  nice box btw

-takstar pro 82 are the original, mic-less mh751, with a bass adjustment thingy, they could be better if you like the idea or find them cheaper. - if they're within your budget, i would rather get shp9600, you get the open back and it fixes some of the flaws of the 9500, bass extension could still be better and you may dislike the warm sound, but some punchiness is added, treble is more tolerable and the overall tonality is more pleasant imo.

This will be my first time getting "decent" (albeit on the cheaper side) headphones, I would usually go for closed back simply because I didn't know open backs existed, I have a usually quiet room and usually alone so I don't think the sound leak would be much problem.

Will be plugging into my laptop, my phone. I don't know anything about DACs, AMPs.

I would probably use the headphones most for movies/youtube videos --&gt; music --&gt; gaming.

I don't really care for "competitive advantage". Usually listen to more kinda chill hiphop vibes songs. I appreciate voice clarity though.

I would appreciate comfiness because I wear glasses and my cheap headphones right now gives me  headaches lol.

Should I get SHP9500, CM MH751 or Samson SR850?

By far, these have been the most comfortable headphones I have ever owned, out of the box. These literally MELT onto your ears. I'm not sure why these aren't more popular because they're great. They look heavier than they actually are, the earcups fully articulate so you can lay the headphone flat on a desk

  The sound is great, there enough "soundstage" and "imaging" to keep the pundits from discarding this as a “cheap” set. They sound SOLID. Also, don't get too excited about the bass ports, keep it in the middle position for a "boost" otherwise closed has PLENTY without making music absolutely disgusting. Games? Yes! Middle position please

 It comes with a decent cable. The ENTIRE package comes is a very nice aluminum case! How many sub-$100 headphones come in a case? Most of them come in a plastic mold.  The sound is great, there enough "soundstage" and "imaging" to keep the pundits from discarding this as a “cheap” set. They sound SOLID

THE MOST COMFORTABLE HEADPHONES EVER!

I recently bought a pair of Sony  WH-1000XM4  on sale for $230 and I plan on returning them, I realized that I don't really need Bluetooth headphones, nor ANC, and the XM4s are incredibly uncomfortable for me and make my ears feel really warm. I do need them to be closed-back though because I doubt my wife would enjoy me using open headphones in the same room.   


So far I'm looking mostly at 3 separate pairs but I'm open to being persuaded to different ones.   


1. DT 770 Pro 80 ohm
2. Yamaha HPH-MT5 (with brainwavz pads)
3. Sivga SV021

 I'm not sure if it matters too much but I don't have an amp yet, but I plan on picking one up after the holiday season  


The reason I don't have the akg k361 or akg k371 listed is because a lot of the reviews I'm looking at for them (both on youtube and amazon) have complaints about a lot of QC problems..

My general use case for these will be gaming and listening to mostly electronic music like Synthwave, I do some light game development on the side for my personal enjoyment and plan on learning to make very simple music in the future for my games, but I don't think that's a make or break for this purchase.   


I'm not a big fan of things that are very.. "gamery" branded, and I have a big head 😅  


Concerns I have for the headphones I'm currently looking at : 

1. DT 770's non-removable cord
2. MT5 has some reviews claiming they're pretty warm, but I believe that's with stock pads?
3. SV021's reviews are all over the place, people seem to either love or hate them, seems to have similar V sound signature to the 770's and decent comfort though?

 In my opinion, these aren't the best sounding closed back headphones for under $100, but it definitely provides above average sound quality with the comfortability being worth the price of admission alone. VERDICT: If sound quality to price is your primary concern, you might want to keep looking for another pair of cans, but if you're really curious about these cans then please buy these because once you put them on you'll forget it's even on your head. HIGHLY recommend!

I got this pair of cans back in November. I use it a lot for gaming and sometimes for music consumption (use dacs/amps for both).
