Technics SL-1500C turntable, which replaced my Rega P2 (my daughter has inherited it), Leak Stereo 130/CDT (although they sound great, to be honest I bought them for their looks alone), my old Yamaha cassette deck (which looks like a CD player), and my Kenwood Minidisc player. After a couple of decades of beater equipment due to a rather nomadic lifestyle, I’ve finally settled down as a first time homeowner and put together a system I’m proud of. Technics 1500c, the only other modern table I’ve owned is a Denon DP 300f, I wanted an auto lift feature and a built in preamp to minimize the amount of equipment I’d be buying upfront. The difference in playback from the two tables was obvious immediately.

I've been considering a Rega P3, along with the Pro-Ject and Music Hall equivalents, a Schiit Sol (I like tinkering with shit, but from what I've read that one might just drive me crazy), and a Technics 1500c. Based on reviews, I'm leaning toward the Technics, even though for a long time I've heard that belt driven tables sound better. Personally, I like the idea of direct drive tables better, what with their speed consistency, precision, and durability, and apparently the Technics takes all that to another level while reducing noise.

That's where balanced connections and such comes into play... Some of the newer included preamps aren't actually too bad, like in the newer technics 1500c, for example, however I've always gone with the "less is more" philosophy, so if you have a turntable which is compliant utilizing the standard phono input on your receiver, maybe try that first. It all depends on your equipment, honestly.
